Whether it’s a Christmas classic or a recently released blockbuster, we want to know what films you’ll be watching at home with the family this winter.

  • Post your film choices in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice

Here’s what FindAnyFilm has to say:

“With so much out there to choose from these days, it can be tough to decide what to cuddle-up and download on a cold December night when the kids are finally in bed, or what DVD to add to the big-shop for your next family film night. The latest research shows that personal recommendations are the reason 83% of people give for picking their next film or TV show to buy or rent, which is why Mumsnet is the perfect place to help you choose what to watch from now until Christmas!”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

bettertimesarecomingnow · 23/11/2021 09:20

Elf! I'll be watching it at home with my dc and dh and also my 3rd years at school! Last maths lesson they have requested elf. Can't wait - will be taking popcorn and hot choc in!

ShowerOfShite · 23/11/2021 09:57

Scrooged, absolutely love Bill Murray.
Huge hit in our house.

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/11/2021 10:05

Christmas chronicles 1 and 2, miracle on 34th Street as mums favourite and my ultimate favourite which is The Santa Clause Movie.

Makinglemonadefromlemons · 23/11/2021 10:44

We always start Christmas films at the beginning of December, Home alone is one of the childrens favourites, with the new one to tentatively try - sequels don't tend to work for us but we are willing to give it a go! The Star is wonderful, Elf is another favourite, Santa Clause, Nativity, Grinch, National Lampoon's Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Polar express, Die Hard for the teens & us, Christmas Carol, so many wonderful films & so little time!

AnneOfCleavage · 23/11/2021 10:53

We've started early as ill at home with Covid and it's comforting for DD.

First one was: Deck the Halls

Then Home Alone, Home Alone 2, The Grinch and The Polar Express.

Love Actually with DH and Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve.

FuggyPidding · 23/11/2021 12:17

Definitely Elf and Home Alone!
Family favourites here :)

DoYouWantDecking · 23/11/2021 12:36

The new Marvel film Shang-Chi?

Asuwere · 23/11/2021 12:54

We enjoy Elf as a family.
DD really enjoyed The Princess Switch and The Princess Switch 2 and is now waiting until December 1st to watch The Princess Switch 3! Xmas Grin

LubaLuca · 23/11/2021 12:57

Home Alone, of course. It's my all-time favourite Christmas film.

Mine are all old enough to watch Krampus this year, so we're going to watch that for a break from the sweet family favourites.

PolytheneRam · 23/11/2021 13:37

I first saw Santa Claus the Movie (starring Dudley Moore) at the cinema, and it's something that I've watched each year since - 16y.o DD loves it too.

Every Christmas Eve we watch The Snowman and have done since DD was the age DS is now (almost 2)

This year I'd like to watch It's a Wonderful Life because unbelievably, I've never seen it.

I'm following this thread for further suggestions

MrsVeryTired · 23/11/2021 13:51

Clifford the Big Red Dog Smile

used to watch the TV show when DS was little, he's 17 now Grin

Olinguito · 23/11/2021 15:15

We're not particularly into Christmas films, although I would like to catch a classic like It's a Wonderful Life.

Knowing my family we'll probably be watching something with aliens or zombies in it.

lovemyflipflops · 23/11/2021 15:30

We always get our DVD out of the Polar Express- it's become a firm Christmas tradition.

jacqui5366 · 23/11/2021 15:32

Always Home Alone .........KKEVVIIINNNNN......... !

JulesJules · 23/11/2021 17:36

I'm saving A Castle for Christmas (Brooke Shields, Cary Elwes) on Netflix for the day D1 gets home from university. We're going to decorate the tree, have a few espresso martinis (well I am) and watch this with a pizza.

Cotswoldmama · 23/11/2021 18:09

We've already watched the Elf, which led to us putting our tree up early!! But we're going to be watching the home alone films this weekend.

problembottom · 23/11/2021 18:26

The Holiday is my absolute fave, it makes me feel all snuggly and warm and Christmassy. Feel good festive, I’ve been watching it every year since it was released. My daughter is old enough to watch it with us this year - I can’t wait.

Furiousfive · 23/11/2021 19:36

Rise of the Guardians. It's my favourite xmas film to watch with the kids!

littlebilliie · 23/11/2021 20:08

It's a wonderful life.

Our family watch it every Christmas but 2020 I was in hospital and they couldn't bring themselves to watch it. This year we are watching it together

MotherofPiggies · 23/11/2021 20:14

Nothing says Christmas in our house more than watching the entire series of Harry Potter films in order.

WilmaJean · 23/11/2021 20:31

Miracle on 34th Street

wellingtonsandwaffles · 23/11/2021 20:33

It’s always got to be Love Actually! Every year!
