Mumsnet users share what they're looking forward to post-lockdown with IKEA

It may be hard to think beyond the lockdown, but we’re all looking forward to getting back to doing the everyday things that we might have taken for granted. With this in mind, IKEA would love to hear what you’re most looking forward to once lockdown has been lifted.

Here’s what IKEA has to say: “Life at home has never felt more important than it does right now. But it’s brought some fresh new challenges. Whether it’s dealing with new colleagues that bark or cry, or finding distractions around every corner. Whilst we’re conquering the great indoors and enjoying time at home, we’re looking forward to getting back out in open spaces and catching up with friends, family and colleagues.”

What everyday things are you most looking forward to doing once the lockdown is over? Perhaps it’s a much needed post-quarantine haircut or being able to nip out to the supermarket planning for the entire week ahead? Are you looking forward to a quick visit to a friend or family member’s house for a cup of tea? Maybe you’re even looking forward to resuming your commute? Are you eager to have the freedom to be able to decide on an impromptu trip to IKEA for some meatballs?

Whatever you’re most looking forward to, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a £200 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Seeing my friends, going out for meals or drinks, swimming, going to galleries and travelling. And maybe moving house!

Heismyopendoor · 20/05/2020 16:56

I’m looking forward to going to the library, taking my kids to the park and going out to eat :) plus some normal routine!

MrsCaplan · 20/05/2020 18:07

Visiting the Donkey Sanctuary in Birmingham, and and then hitting IKEA on the way back for loads of hot dogs and then some much longed-for shopping for home accessories.

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 20/05/2020 19:07

A haircut and colour!

Mummymummums · 20/05/2020 20:06

Looking forward to seeing friends, and also being able to wander around shops and sit in a coffee shop.

Cd89 · 20/05/2020 22:44

I never appreciated the value of normality....contact with people, places and options. I'm looking forward to opening our options again, having some choice in day trips further than costa del patio, or our gate. But mostly, seeing our parents/grandparents - my children really miss seeing them and playing. FaceTime just isn't the same.

sunshinesky · 20/05/2020 23:06

I can't wait to see my nephew and two nieces and give them a massive hug!

Then go to the beach, play games, have chips and ice creams - it's the simple things I miss most.

A lovely long day riding the buses in our region with teen DS1. He's not even set foot outside since it was announced that schools would close and I'm really worried for his physical, as well as mental, health.

Most looking forward to the sea or a pool.
I have disabilities and one of the main things that helps me is to be in the water, fully immersed and floating or swimming.

Three years ago we (me, DH and DS) moved to a small town for my job. We haven't made many friends here, and it's not really our scene. We always felt homesick, especially because our DS is an only child and we left behind lots of friends with kiddos of similar age.

But this August we are moving back to the city we used to live in! It's going to be weird moving in the midst of a pandemic, but we have a plan on how to stay safe and do it responsibly.

All to say: when lockdown is over, and we are back in the city, I'm really really looking forward to having all our friends and their children over for a huge housewarming brunch. I'm been literally spent the last two months planning it! What I'll bake, the play list and what games we can put out for the kids of different ages...

(As it happens, because our new home will be bigger than any place we've lived before, either in the city or our current small town, I've been browsing Ikea's website a lot!)

Giving my poor dc a play date

Lurkingforawhile · 21/05/2020 14:14

Going swimming at the Lido in Reading - I love swimming and haven't been since January as I had shoulder surgery. I was hoping to rehab on the pool but bad timing! The thought of clear blue cool water is so tempting!

mrspotatohed · 21/05/2020 18:55

Going to the pub!!

kennythekangaroo · 21/05/2020 20:53

Going to the beach. It's about a 45 minute drive but looking at how many people flocked there this week I think I'll still leave it a bit.

Amaura · 21/05/2020 22:05

Taking the children swimming or just general family locations

Putting the kids in school and taking a day of work 😂

Luckily I realised what was going to happen and got Ikea just before lockdown to get an office set up at home. Thank you 😊

Jellykat · 21/05/2020 22:21

Observing the changing landscape on a bus to work, the antique shop where i work has a mountain behind it and the sea in front, and chatting with customers.. some of them have such weird and wonderful stories to tell, and i miss meeting new people.

MonetManet · 21/05/2020 22:46

I’d like to eat at a restaurant, any restaurant!

ShellsandSand · 21/05/2020 23:40

Myself and my girls (8 & 5) are gonna drive to the coast and do several beach clean ups. We are from a seaside town but now live in the city. We are itching to clean up the beaches.

StainlessSteelCat · 22/05/2020 00:48

I want to see my mum. She's shielding 200 miles away, all I want to do is visit for the day and hug her ☹️
Go for a walk in the countryside
And get some more drawers for my son's kallax - we've done the tidying and sorting, he needs more drawers to keep his room organised

NoneForYouFletcher · 22/05/2020 08:02

I want to hug my 81 year old mum. She's been by herself all through lockdown and she's very much a people-person. Not having proper contact with anyone must be horrendous for her. We can't chat on the phone as she has severe hearing loss.

CamDram · 22/05/2020 08:08

Seeing my parents (shielding far away)

Eating out again

Never again getting sucked into buying crap I don’t need or submitting to the retail hell that is a trip to IKEA 😜

LassoOfTruth · 22/05/2020 08:09

Being FINALLY able to move to our new home, with our new 'lockdown baby' in tow - he should be arriving any day now! Grin

userinfinity · 22/05/2020 08:30

I’m looking forward to seeing family the most. During lockdown, we realised too late the need for a dedicated home office space so I’m also looking forward to visiting ikea to have this set this up

PurpleGoose · 22/05/2020 14:37

The same as many have already said, most looking forward to seeing family.

After that however, we're looking forward to finishing our renovations - which will involve a trip to IKEA at some point 😁

Lifesbetterwithwine · 22/05/2020 17:46

Like many others, I’m looking forward to meeting up with family and friends, sharing food and drink with loved ones.
