Mumsnet users share what they're looking forward to post-lockdown with IKEA

It may be hard to think beyond the lockdown, but we’re all looking forward to getting back to doing the everyday things that we might have taken for granted. With this in mind, IKEA would love to hear what you’re most looking forward to once lockdown has been lifted.

Here’s what IKEA has to say: “Life at home has never felt more important than it does right now. But it’s brought some fresh new challenges. Whether it’s dealing with new colleagues that bark or cry, or finding distractions around every corner. Whilst we’re conquering the great indoors and enjoying time at home, we’re looking forward to getting back out in open spaces and catching up with friends, family and colleagues.”

What everyday things are you most looking forward to doing once the lockdown is over? Perhaps it’s a much needed post-quarantine haircut or being able to nip out to the supermarket planning for the entire week ahead? Are you looking forward to a quick visit to a friend or family member’s house for a cup of tea? Maybe you’re even looking forward to resuming your commute? Are you eager to have the freedom to be able to decide on an impromptu trip to IKEA for some meatballs?

Whatever you’re most looking forward to, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a £200 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Going to the coast, walking on the beach and eating fresh donuts.

sashh · 17/05/2020 06:29

Getting my nails done. Not so much for the nails but to chat with the salon owner and the other 'regulars', it's like a women's social club.

exLtEveDallas · 17/05/2020 06:48

We want to go to our caravan on the coast. For numerous reasons it was always going to be the last year we had it, and this year we were going to make the most of it, going down at every opportunity. Now it looks like we’ll have August if we are lucky and nothing else.

Honestly, I’m gutted about it. I know there are far worse things happening around me, but I cannot help but feel upset.

So, caravan, walks on the beach, pub meals, live bands, all our ‘summer’ friends and our little nest away from home. That’s what we’ll be doing.

A visit to ikea! We were going to go Easter Sunday to get our two year olds big girl bed.

Plus we need (another) kallax for her room to try and tidy up the tide of toys. I have a list for the kids section too, sand ice cream set, paper, stamper pens, pots and pans and utensils for a mud kitchen.

We’ve also run out of chicken meatballs which caused tears from my eldest last night Sad. We’ll be queueing to get in no doubt when you reopen. I think you need to consider online bookable slots for entry as I presume lots of families will be in our position.

Why can't IKEA open the food bit? It's usually at the exit so you could have people go in the exit, pick up their meatballs and dime, pay and leave.

MyNameIsJane · 17/05/2020 09:05

@sashh I think a lot of the IKEAs have opened the food section for essential items.

MyNameIsJane · 17/05/2020 09:07

I’m looking forward to a mooch around an IKEA, I miss items when I look on the website.

fudgecat · 17/05/2020 09:10

I just want to go and see my parents, it's been a long 8 weeks and we miss them so much

Yellowbeansontoast · 17/05/2020 09:10

Drinking coffee in my favourite cafe for sure. Being able to drop off my clutter at charity shops. Travelling!

Also, weirdly, IKEA breakfast - especially the hash browns.

Eaudeunaturale · 17/05/2020 09:29

Seeing family & friends and going to the beach!
Aside from that I was due to decorate my sons bedroom, he is going up to senior school this year so wanted a desk and a more ‘grown up’ looking room so actually looking forward to getting to Ikea to purchase the desk and other bits! (and of course for a hot dog 😉)

bettertimesarecomingnow · 17/05/2020 09:38

Seeing my awesome dp who lives in another country. I miss him so much!

Seeing my parents and going out for a drink/meal with everyone.

Getting back to work and some sort of routine and the kids to school once it's safe. They have enjoyed being at home a lot but I think they miss their friends.

Tootletum · 17/05/2020 09:40

Need to get my youngest an IKEA bed like her brothers and also buy a bed frame for my tenant. Bought the IKEA mattress that now doesn't any other frame and not paying £30 for delivery. So looking forward to going to get it myself in the van. Not looking forward to the year or so of social distancing that will apply, so I'm really hoping IKEA keep same opening hours and I can go at less busy times.

GatoFofo · 17/05/2020 13:37

Sitting in a friend’s garden in the sunshine, drinking a cold beer, and planning a weekend away.
I’m also looking forward to browsing the shops, mostly for homeware, but also for a post lovkdown treat, maybe some jewellery.
And a trip to ikea of course for meatballs and a potplant!

RedRosie · 17/05/2020 13:52

Shallow I know. But pizza. Proper pizza from a restaurant. Not crap supermarket or delivered chain pizza. Pizza that's just come out of a wood fired oven and has black bubbles in the crust. That I can eat straight away. In the restaurant.

Happy sigh.

That's all I want.

Chucklecheeks01 · 17/05/2020 14:57

Buying another IKEA desk as at the moment three of us are trying to use the one we do have!

smiffypeabrain · 17/05/2020 15:19

Have a big family gathering, hugging and celebrating all the the birthdays that have occurred since mid-March and seeing relatives whom have had their surgery postponed and re-scheduled and.. hopefully.. good outcomes.

BeyOnceBeyTwice · 17/05/2020 15:33

We're due our first baby in 3 days so we'll be introducing baby to our families.
We'd planned an Ikea date night before lockdown ruined that plan! We wanted to come for meatballs and chips and had planned to buy baby's cotbed, which will now have to wait until this is all over.
I also desperately need a haircut, but that's one thing Ikea can't help me with..

c75kp0r · 17/05/2020 15:59

I do want to invest in a better freezer and go and visit family

WowOoo · 17/05/2020 16:51

I am desperate for a haircut.

Am looking forward to a get together with friends that was cancelled. I can't wait to give them all a big hug and see them in the flesh.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/05/2020 17:00

Seeing family - and hugging them!
Going out for a meal
Getting the children back into their activities (e.g.. swimming)
Popping to the coffee shop with a friend
Having my hair cut!!!

Lurleene · 17/05/2020 17:11

Visiting a member of our family who has been in hospital for several weeks (not Covid related) who has been unable to have visitors.
I was lucky enough to get to the beach today, which is something I've been desperate to do but to be honest it was just stressful trying to dodge other people. So I guess I am also looking forward to going to the beach when it feels like it is meant to.

biffyboom · 17/05/2020 20:54

We're going to make more effort on going further afield more regularly with the children at weekends, and definitely getting more mini breaks in throughout the year.

10milewalk · 17/05/2020 21:03

I'm really looking forward to seeing my two daughters who are away at uni.

Sleepybumble · 17/05/2020 21:33

I am shielding and my husband works as a nurse on the frontline of the NHS. I havent been staying at our home due to the risks. I cannot wait to be back home with him. He's been doing lots of home improvement while I've been away and it's looking beautiful.

grannyjacob · 17/05/2020 22:08

Giving my daughter and g'son a great big cuddle.
Meeting a chum, going for a pub meal, having a couple big glasses of lovely rose.
