Family skincare tips shared with La Roche-Posay

JustineBMumsnet · 24/02/2020 10:27

Keeping your family’s skin healthy can be difficult, particularly once the winter chill sets in. With that in mind, La Roche-Posay would like to hear about the skincare tips you have.

Here’s what La Roche-Posay has to say: “Extreme temperatures, a lack of humidity in the air and even strong wind can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. This is why you tend to notice even more dry or sensitive skin in winter. It is key to pay attention to these signs and take extra care of your family’s skin during this time of the year. We would love to understand what winter skin concerns you and your family have, and how you are dealing with them”

Do you have a skincare routine that works for the whole family? Maybe you have ‘hero’ products that seem to do everything for everyone? Does La Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine? Perhaps you have tips on things to avoid to keep your skin healthy?

Whatever your family skincare tips, share them below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Do you have a skincare routine that works for the whole family?

We choose anything for sensitive skin, then we can all use, Johnsons, or
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Syndet Baby Body and Hair Wash -it's on 3 for 2 at Boots at the moment - So I will be stocking up.

Maybe you have ‘hero’ products that seem to do everything for everyone?

Baby lotion for moisturising after bathing - all of us and for lips La Roche-Posay Cicaplast.

Does La Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine?

Yes, when it's on offer.

Perhaps you have tips on things to avoid to keep your skin healthy?

Washing with a non-bio and moisturising

Leanfun · 25/02/2020 10:33

We don’t do a lot as a family. Found we needed to use a non bio washing powder or some of the family developed a rash as babies. Other than this our main thing is high factor sun cream in the summer and sun hats.

maureen3733 · 25/02/2020 10:54

i wait til skin care items are on offer and bulk buy but i always go for ones friendly and without parabens

pennwood · 25/02/2020 11:09

We use lip balm to prevent dry and chapped lips. A regular routine of moisturising morning and evening before bedtime, plus we use sunscreen whenever it is bright & sunny.

I think its important to remember to put enough moisture into out bodies, to make sure we are hydrated, So I try to drink enough water and limit caffeine and alcohol.

hibbertheather · 25/02/2020 11:33

I like to use natural products without too much chemicals in them, I have found Aveeno to be really great for us too

danigrace · 25/02/2020 12:21

Nobody in our family can tolerate harsh chemicals in bath stuff, and we all use nice natural body cream after each bath

MarieKlepto · 25/02/2020 12:23

Sunscreen (all year round for me, as much as possible but definitely in summer for others), lots of water and avoiding buying heavily artificially scented bath and shower products.

andywedge · 25/02/2020 12:26

Take plenty of liquids and your skin will look after itself

lizd31 · 25/02/2020 12:27

I choose organic products & search for natural remedies for skin problems such as tea tree oil, green tea, extra virgin raw organic coconut oil etc

sheilads105 · 25/02/2020 12:29

I encourage my family to use sunscreen from the first hint of sun until the first frost.

WhiteKnuckleRide · 25/02/2020 12:40

For my son I use Carex Mr Men as his bubble bath three times a week and head and shoulders for men to wash his hair - I love the smell on him and it doesn't leave a soapy residue. If he has dry skin I use Aveeno moisturiser. During the summer I use SPF 30 on all of us. My own skincare routine is a little more complicated as i suffer with keratosis pilaris and rosacea, so I try to cleanse, tone and moisturise my face daily using products containing glycolic acid and salicylic acid. I use SPF 15 on my face after applying these products. I like the La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Anti-Redness Light Cream SPF 15 for this.

DD has had impetigo a couple of times. We suspect its because she has a habit of licking her lips when she's nervous, her lower lip and chin can get quite red. We now keep lip balm handy and if her lip or chin starts looking raw, we put some on. So far so good :)

Most important is the sun cream - its really important to protect everyone (and also the sun is the main cause of wrinkles so slap it over your face too)!

Secondly (for holidays) is a huge tube of 99% aloe vera gel for when anyone has accidentally had too much sun (dont usually need it, but its brilliant on the rare occasions it has been needed).

La Roche-Posay is part of our family's skin care routine as their Efficlar is the only cream that works on the blackheads on my nose! - I have extremely greasy skin and despite getting older there is no signs of it getting less greasy - this cream seems to help close the pores and visually makes a huge difference - its best to put it on at night before bed on your greasy t-zone after you have given your mush a good scrub.

The other things we use are soaps instead of shower gels that dont clean you properly (there are lots of really good soaps if you do a bit of research and no more plastic bottles wasted and they can actually work out cheaper if you buy in bulk). Also we always have Vics vapour rub which works on all kinds of skin problems!

My husband and I use adult creams. But my son who is 2 we use E45 lotion mixed with a little Johnsons fragrance free baby oil to give it a richer formula. He does get dry patches on his upper arm and this has helped a lot

moosexxx · 25/02/2020 13:10

The hardest thing for us, has been getting our two boys to wash morning and night. Its fine if they are having a bath/shower, but if they are not they try and skip it.
We've now started them off with a face wash and some cotton wool pads, this way they can at least see how much dirt comes off their faces when they use it.

Sallyannlloydjones · 25/02/2020 13:18

Wet wipes and low allergy products

prwilson · 25/02/2020 13:19

Simply drink plenty of water, plenty of nutritional food and wear sunscreen when you're out (mostly in the summer).

ComptimusPrime · 25/02/2020 13:24

sunblock when out an about. a few pinches of sea salt in the bath.

minkeymonkeys · 25/02/2020 13:26

The kids and I all use Nivea moisturizer in the morning and after showers at night.

scandroid · 25/02/2020 13:31

It is so important to learn how essential sunscreen is at a young age. I have memories of suffering extremely painful sunburn as a child. My mum mistakenly thought that 'sun tan lotion' (as it was known then) was only needed to achieve a better tan. Thankfully we are all so much better educated on the dangers now.

cag2712 · 25/02/2020 13:32

Always have a pot of hand cream next to the hand wash in all the bathrooms any extra on the hands goes on the elbows or knees to help with hydration.

ribbo69 · 25/02/2020 13:50

Moisturizing is an inexpensive and easy way to avoid a lot of skin problems in the family.

NICH7 · 25/02/2020 14:01

We try not use any cream with fragrance. Olive oil works well for dry skin. Cider vinegar works well with teenager’s spots (not pleasant smell though).

badgermum · 25/02/2020 14:09

I buy zero sanex shower gel and bubble for the children to use as occasionally they can suffer from a mild eczema flare up, and there's no reason why adults cant use it too
