This thread is now closed.

There’s no question that staycations are on the rise. And whether you’d consider one because they can be cheaper, easier with a large family, you want to appreciate the UK or simply because you can bring your dogs along too, Parkdean Resorts would like to hear about what your ideal UK staycation looks like.

Here’s what Parkdean Resorts has to say: “We are the UK’s largest Holiday Park operator with 67 locations in some of the most stunning coastal, countryside and lakeside locations. From the impressive Scottish Highlands to the sunny South Coast, a Parkdean Resorts holiday is a great way to explore the UK and discover your new favourite spot.

Adventurers can camp with their tent, touring caravan or even try Glamping. Or choose from a huge choice of caravans, lodges and hot tub lodges including brand new accommodation for 2020, to suit all budgets and family sizes packed with everything you need for a stress-free holiday. And with 66 parks offering dog friendly accommodation, you really can bring the whole family on your holiday.

Find the best choice of accommodation by booking early, with deposits from only £25. And, you can now spread the cost of your holiday in easy and affordable monthly Direct Debit payments. Perfect!”

Would you be looking for a beachside break for the whole family while hoping the British rain holds off or do you think a couples midweek retreat sounds like the perfect way to recharge your batteries? Where in the UK is next on your list to visit? If you already ‘staycation’ regularly, what do you enjoy about it?

All who share what their perfect UK break would look like on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My perfect UK break would be in a log cabin in a nature type setting, somewhere near a lake. It would have a lovely outdoor area for my children to play together, and be a pet friendly accommodation so the dogs could come too. I would love for it to be not busy as I prefer to be ourselves on a holiday, so you can sit outside in peace. Sometimes I always feel like other people are watching me (although they aren't). A cabin which featured a hot tub would be amazing as I would love to relax in one at night time while the kids were in bed. This would be my perfect holiday xx

Somewhere that’s connected to nature and wildlife like the New Forest, I love to be near nature but I don’t want to rough it too much so family clean and a wide range of facilities
Somewhere with lots for the kids to do both indoor and outdoor activities so the weather isnt an issue.
I love to be near coast or but I don’t mind exploring the town. Weymouth , Poole, New forest or Somerset are all lovely.

Max three hours travel away, some culture nearby, great beach or countryside for walking and clean modern accommodation. Most of all though, happy kids make me a happy Mum.

BlueCookieMonster · 30/01/2020 16:24

I love a beach holiday with penny arcades etc. But equally, love a holiday where there are lots of parks and historical places to visit.

merlymerly · 30/01/2020 16:31

Clean and comfy accommodation, lots of amenities on site or near by and I always like to be close to a beach

Confuzzlediddled · 30/01/2020 16:33

We don't think of a UK holiday as a staycation, it's just our holiday! Our perfect holiday will have a mix of a nice place to relax, with a pool, preferably outdoor if we're lucky enough to have nice weather. Some wildlife is nice too, especially as we live in a city. We love caravans and sometimes there's nothing nicer than hearing the rain pattering on the roof!

We like a nice mix of entertainment, with shows for us all and hopefully a talent contest for my daughter and I!

We like to have days out to new places, that could be a museum or a theme park, just somewhere we can have fun, my twins are now 17 and we've been having uk holidays all thier lives, partly for health reasons which rules out travel abroad.

We love hearing those seagulls that show we're near the beach, even if they can be loud when they're tapdancing on the roof!

We're already booked for this year's holiday and the brochure promises a teen club so that's an extra we're looking forward to as it helps the twins make friends.

Somewhere with lots of fun and active child friendly activities and clean comfortable accommodation

abby12321 · 30/01/2020 17:02

I want a theme park break, legoland is high on my list

cag2712 · 30/01/2020 17:06

An adult only area to chill-out and relax for a while, a nice pool and spa area and gym would be a bonus, some gentle walks and a beach would be an added bonus, good local food well cooked.

alabaster002 · 30/01/2020 17:09

Warm sunshine, sandy beach, fish and chips and a long, slow sunset!

liz1970 · 30/01/2020 17:10

A lovely cottage break near to Snowdonia would be great! :)

Kazscott · 30/01/2020 17:12

It has to be Alton Towers.
Keeps both kids and adults amused all day.
It’s good value for money too.
Crazy good is excellent too and with the big indoor water park.
Hotels are lovely especially the C Beebies one.

IonaAilidh11 · 30/01/2020 17:16

family caravan park with activities for all ages

ShePersisted · 30/01/2020 17:34

We look for somewhere with entertainment and activities built in, where we don't need to drive off anywhere -if we don't want to - but we can roll out of bed and go for a wander. We want somewhere where there's not much road traffic or other dangers, so we can feel fairly secure letting the kids explore to a safe extent. We need somewhere with a kitchen - dining out with a 4 and 6 year old is hardly worth it. Aside from outdoor pursuits like sports, hiking, and water sports, we'd need to make sure there are some indoor options when the weather doesn't cooperate. Also, there needs to be loads of other kids and families about! Thanks for asking :)

Marg2k8 · 30/01/2020 17:55

I've been looking at Parkdean breaks recently with a view to going with my daughter and granddaughter. I would be looking for a toddler friendly break with entertainment on site. I'm disabled so would need it to be accessible.

towser44 · 30/01/2020 18:08

All our holidays are in the UK and to make them totally perfect we just need some decent weather ha ha!

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 30/01/2020 18:29

Somewhere coastal with easy access to the beach. It should have a pool and also a park suitable for toddlers and also older kids. In an ideal world it would have good takeaway food options of all kinds so that we don't need to cook but also don't have to sit in a restaurant with our energetic tiny! Finally a soft play, always a soft play!

egtonmegan · 30/01/2020 19:10

iv always dreamed of going to Cornwall and stopping in a little seaside house on the beach front, it looks beautiful. Then getting to set out on a night with a cheeky glass of wine or a little walk along the sand...perfect!!!

GhostsToMonsoon · 30/01/2020 19:13

Isn't a staycation where you stay at home but take annual leave and do holiday-type activities or day trips? As opposed to a break in the UK which is not necessarily cheap!

Would you be looking for a beachside break for the whole family while hoping the British rain holds off or do you think a couples midweek retreat sounds like the perfect way to recharge your batteries?*

*Where in the UK is next on your list to visit? If you already ‘staycation’ regularly, what do you enjoy about it?

We have had several good holidays in Devon as a family and are going again this year, although the weather can certainly be mixed. We stay near Woolacombe with its beautiful countryside and massive beach. DH and I are going to Yorkshire for one night in the spring as my dad has kindly offered to babysit our children who aren't as keen on walking as we are. We also plan to go to the Lake District for a few days in the summer holidays. Last year I did a weekend away there with Swim the Lakes.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/01/2020 19:23

Centre parks.

arat · 30/01/2020 19:33

A luxury lodge in a quiet location; good scenery, walks & eating places nearby (and not too far from home as hate driving!)

lolamia91 · 30/01/2020 19:36

A cottage in the middle of nowhere

lynsmagoo · 30/01/2020 19:40

somewhere dry (that's not northern ireland!), maybe south of england somewhere! somewhere that have plenty to do for the kids, near a beach would be nice!

SSCRASE123 · 30/01/2020 19:46

To a fishing village next to a sandy beach with lots of cosy local pubs.

amesn · 30/01/2020 19:49

Definitely a beachside break for the family for us! In fact, we love the outdoors so would love a break in the countryside. I'd love our next UK trip to be by the coast - you can't beat the sea air!
We recently stayed at a caravan park in the countryside (first time we've done it actually) and it was great. We're not so fussed about any evening entertainment etc, but we love facilities such as a swimming pool. The caravan was enormous and had everything we needed - it also had a starter pack of coffee, teabags and dishwasher tablets. We had a great time and would definitely do this type of holiday again, especially to explore more of the UK.
