Would you be looking for a beachside break for the whole family while hoping the British rain holds off or do you think a couples midweek retreat sounds like the perfect way to recharge your batteries? Where in the UK is next on your list to visit? If you already ‘staycation’ regularly, what do you enjoy about it?

All who share what their perfect UK break would look like on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I'd love a cottage at the south end of the county. Somewhere cosy for at least 4 people and that welcomes dogs and is near the sea.

LeeR1985 · 31/01/2020 18:35

I'd love to stay in a tree house with a nearby hot tub away from big cities :) somewhere quiet and surrounded by nature

amyhalliday1 · 31/01/2020 18:50

Small cosy cabin with a hot tub and lots of wine x

Cliffdonville · 31/01/2020 19:06

Cabin or cottage with a hot tub and walking distance to a decent swimming pool or play area. Loads of walks, either beach or forest and a load of Board games

IWouldBeSuperb · 31/01/2020 19:43

If I could find a lovely (toddler-proof!) place to stay near a safe beach with rockpools, an ice cream shop and a chippie, I'd be in heaven!!

Some indoor entertainment nearby in case it rains would be an extra bonus!

Whatdayisit2 · 31/01/2020 20:12

Warm, clean indoor pool
King size bed
Dog free accommodation- most websites only allow a dog friendly option rather than the opposite
Towels, bed linen included

stormageddmum · 31/01/2020 20:34

Somewhere easy to get to by train. Maybe with a shuttle service to the station as an option - or at least lots of info on taxis/busses. Lots of things to do nearby or with regular transport links to local attractions. Also somewhere to get food that you don't need a car to get to. Beach is a bonus!

emmamcmahon · 31/01/2020 20:42

My boys love a swimming pool or a hot tub. We also like exploring and walks with our Spaniel.

Dapootz · 31/01/2020 20:43

A beachfront dog friendly Spa hotel with a dog sitting service

Teadrinka · 31/01/2020 20:54

I have spent many happy holidays on Parkdean and similar parks. What keeps us coming back (apart from the excellent deals available from certain publications Wink) are: Children's entertainments which give adults some time to themselves. We enjoy the in-house entertainment in the evening particularly the family disco & bingo. An indoor swimming pool is essential. We also go for parks that are near the coast and have good public transport routes. Sometimes the adults like to be able to relax have a drink when out & about.Wine Personally, if I'm driving I stick to 'soft' drinks, so it's nice to be able to get a bus home after a meal out of the park. My experience of park food is not good I'm afraid.

sophiefx · 31/01/2020 21:15

Apartment type accommodation with kitchen included. Lovely scenery and beaches for the kids to run about. Would also love pet friendly as then could bring my amazing doggy Hugo!

StickChildNumberTwo · 31/01/2020 21:22

Somewhere out of the way but with things to do within an easy drive, and good food walkable. We're heading to Scottish islands this year.

Flickabella81 · 31/01/2020 21:25

I love a view - being near nature. My ideal uk break would be waking up close to a sea view- somewhere where you can sea the sunset or rise. I love camping for this reason

MerlinsBeard87 · 31/01/2020 21:51

A quirky landmark style cottage with character or unusual glamping like a pod or tipi. Somewhere with a bit of history to explore like castles or historic houses, and little independent shops and tea rooms. Plenty of fresh air for the kids

jessyjo2 · 31/01/2020 23:49

Plenty of entertainment for kids. Ie indoor pool with flumes etc, archery, karting, canoeing, swimming lessons, subways, family competitions etc

WilsonandNoodles · 01/02/2020 08:22

Somewhere with a comfy bed, and plenty of living space so we can spread out and feed the family, outdoor space so my son can run around without being on top of other guests. In the area we are staying we would be wanting a combination of the British countryside with walks for the dog and pretty villages to explore, while indoor and outdoor tourist attractions not being far away to keep us busy.

SlipperyLizard · 01/02/2020 08:25

Entertainment for the kids that isn’t too annoying for adults to sit through is nice, plus a decent swimming pool.

Comfortable beds are a holy grail that I rarely find - preferably with duvets right for the time of year (not 15 tog in summer!).

Dog friendly would be the icing on the cake.

starlight36 · 01/02/2020 08:56

Plenty of indoor and outdoor activities on site to allow for our unpredictable weather.

Location easy to get to on public transport or a shuttle bus provided to transfer between train /bus station and site.

Ability to self-cater snd have restaurants /take-away on site. Either neither shops or have a store selling essentials (milk, butter, bread etc).

Minimal kid's tat for sale - helps avoid the eternal nagging for a toy each day 😀

yellowowls · 01/02/2020 09:23

Holiday somewhere near the coast with family friendly accommodation (dogs and young kids etc)

muppet1501 · 01/02/2020 09:24

We go to the same Uk holiday park every year. There is so much for the kids to do including pools, activities and entertainment and myself and my partner are happy because our kids are happy. We won't be going back for many more years though as my children are growing up........unless i go with my grandchildren.

Dilbertian · 01/02/2020 09:45

We frequently holiday in the UK.

The house must be bigger than we strictly need. Not bothered about everybody having a bedroom to themselves (the kids keep each other entertained in the mornings), but must have plenty of living space.

At least two loos! More than one bathroom is nice, but not essential.

A real fire, even in summer. Prefer open, but a burner is acceptable.

Plenty of space to hang wet gear.

A washing machine.

Comfy, firm beds.

Cosy decor - we're not into artyfarty or minimalist greige.

A quietish location - not on a main street.

A house with character. Going on holiday is a bit like being a grandmother: I get to enjoy living in a thatched/half-timbered/historic house - and I get to hand the dear thing back and not worry about maintaining it.

A mixture of things to do in the area. Hill-walking and open water swimming. History and interesting houses or museums. Local food.

Now if all that could be combined with a housekeeper to do all the domestic stuff, too...Grin

SilveryWrath · 01/02/2020 11:47

It must be near the coast for it to feel like a holiday for me.
Don't mind if it's sand or pebbles, doesn't hAve to be hot weather; a walk along a windy beach with your coat on is still lovely and refreshing.

vegum · 01/02/2020 13:25

Good entertainment for small children, dog friendly, near a beach and have a swimming pool.

Mmmmdanone · 01/02/2020 14:11

Like center parcs without the price.

xaphan77 · 01/02/2020 15:35

our favourite family UK breaks have been in North Yorkshire or the Lake District. We love hiring our own cosy cottage that is dog friendly then going for lots of lovely walks and finding a good pub or 2 for lunch/dinner.
