Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We have exciting new paint shades to update your home this spring in our Breatheasy® matt and silk finish which is 99% solvent free and now certified asthma & allergy friendly® – a fresh look for your room and peace of mind for you, allowing you to create a healthier and happier home”

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

We love it when our girls create fab pictures and these are always on display on our walls. Family is so important and we also have lots of pictures around - especially of those we have lost, so we can tell our girls about them and share our memories. In their bedrooms, they can decorate their walls too. Our eldest DD decided recently to create an 'awards' wall and put up all the certificates she's ever received (from school, the local library, swimming etc) It makes her feel proud of herself and we love that!

Keeping it as a calm and quiet hideaway.

compy99 · 17/04/2019 07:29

Spend time to make each room a inclusive for all the family, far better to share a common space like a lounge or dining room or kitchen with all the family rather than confining toys etc to a bedroom or playroom.

abigailflo7 · 17/04/2019 07:39

I always try to make each room look cosy and welcoming , I use both paint and wallpaper and lots of soft furnishings and plenty of storage so the kids can have their things out but after they have finished they have somewhere to store them, makes everyone happy

NICH7 · 17/04/2019 07:43

Lots of lights, well ventilated and tidy.

Spices001 · 17/04/2019 07:53

Cosy haven, ours is not a show home...🤣 lots of memories & throws to snuggle under

suzyq50 · 17/04/2019 07:56

Not too much clutter on show so lots of storage boxes & cupboards are used. Jazzy rug as a centre piece & I do change wall colours every 3 years or so. I'm happy to do it as a DIY job.

angiehoggett · 17/04/2019 08:03

We made it as cosy and homely as possible with solid wood furniture, added a fireplace, kept the colours warm and traditional while still keeping it looking modern.

Ganne1 · 17/04/2019 08:05

We used bright colours and colourful friezes in the children's rooms. But you also need their toys placed prominently, and lots of light. The porblem is restoring the rooms to something rather more sedate when they leave!

vickyg88 · 17/04/2019 08:06

For me it's lots of candles and diffusers, plenty of low lighting and if you can try to have one 'functional' room where you eat, use laptops and do any work but also have a cosy room where you can relax and unwind.

Sophiebray25 · 17/04/2019 08:11

I try to make my home a happy place by always making time for fun family activities and getting my boys involved in lots of activities such as cooking and baking.

Lorraine37 · 17/04/2019 08:13

Keep things tidy and clutter free.

Calm colours with warm subtle lighting, artwork and photos to make your space personal, plants to soften the edges, cushions and throws to brighten and make cosy and a happy home.

AR2012 · 17/04/2019 08:31

Cosy areas where we can snuggle up and read a book or nap. Plenty toys and entertainment.

Annak789 · 17/04/2019 08:42

Loads of kids pictures around the house
Having two loveable dogs 🐶
And kids laughter best things to a happy home 🏠 _

Moonlight1 · 17/04/2019 08:54

Lots of plants, they give you something nice to look at, they complete a room and give you a little boost of oxygen!

hiddenmichelle · 17/04/2019 08:57

photos from all our holidays around to remind us of all of the great times we have had together. Also letting the kids have a say in their own rooms (well mostly all the say!)

muppet1501 · 17/04/2019 09:01

Dont fret over toys or bits everywhere because your kids are making memories. One day they will be gone and they'll be nothing like that

kirstycooper01 · 17/04/2019 09:09

Always be available to listen and never discourage opinions different to your own.

ThemisA · 17/04/2019 09:12

I think keeping everyone physically healthy and mentally healthy and a proper diet helps both. The right toys, activities and expectations for each child's development and personality, family time, plenty of fresh air and physical activities and a well ordered clean home that regularly gets mucked up during play. Family and friends are important too and laughing at yourself. Sharing books and reading aloud. It helps if parent(s) are happy too.

kagglen · 17/04/2019 09:13

We all have a say in how each room is decorated, that way we know it will make us all happy and really make the house a happy place to live.

finleypop · 17/04/2019 09:22

A home to me is not too messy, yet not too neat.
Family photographs all around & beautiful scents.
Fleeces & cushions freely available for us all to snuggle together & watch a movie

mollymoo818 · 17/04/2019 09:26

I don't know if it makes the whole home happy but it certainly makes me happy to have my own little kid free oasis which is calm and relaxing. I have painted the kids rooms in lovely bright colours which they love and I am sure makes them feel happier as they are such bright cheery colours.

Scoots23 · 17/04/2019 09:26

Without a doubt filling it with colour and memories! No plain walls or bland colouring. Lots of colour, pictures and photographs and the best thing to fill it with - Laughter!

SocksInPeril · 17/04/2019 09:41

I’ve decided to go with what I like and not what it on trend, which means we have brightly coloured walls and fun prints everywhere. DS loves the colour and I smile whenever I walk into a room

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 17/04/2019 09:43

A happy home does equal a happy me! I love splashes of colour to brighten my mood and walls but it has to be flawless, if i see any marks on the wall, then its another coat of paint for me!!
I also love things in the correct place, no clutter and everything tidy and clean - or tucked away in a cupboard where i cant see it, at least!! xx
