Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We have exciting new paint shades to update your home this spring in our Breatheasy® matt and silk finish which is 99% solvent free and now certified asthma & allergy friendly® – a fresh look for your room and peace of mind for you, allowing you to create a healthier and happier home”

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

meals at the table to make sure you have chance to chat and connect. so important.

kerryv · 17/04/2019 18:45

Everyone knowing what chores are expected of them, and everyone going to bed on time and getting enough sleep makes my house happy.

juju3 · 17/04/2019 19:09

just devote all your time to bringing up the kids and helping them in every way - the house will still be a home and it can be done up once they have flown the nest

moosexxx · 17/04/2019 19:10

Spending time with the kids, and have fun whilst doing so. Getting them to pick up after themselves also adds to the sense of well being.

For me there's a fine line between a relaxed family home and a bit of a tip! So, a happy home for us is one that isn't like a museum or a show home - it's OK to spill on the tablecloth or get sticky fingermarks on the wall - but at the same time we're still houseproud and tidy. We regularly touch up paintwork to keep it looking fresh, and often change things like pictures on the wall to stop boredom from setting in!

Decorating as a pair. My partner and I make decisions jointly so he doesn't feel 'my' decorating style has overtaken the house. And plants! Lots of plants! I may love plants more than my kids (joking, of course!)

Nikita90 · 17/04/2019 19:35

We fill our house with pictures of our family and add lots of soft furnishings to make it cosy

racheybr · 17/04/2019 19:51

for me, I like bold but calm colours with as many plants and books as I can get away with. We have an explosion of toys in our home and it is a daily mission to try to pack these away again and large baskets and under bed storage tubs have been really helpful for achieving this

twinklenicci · 17/04/2019 19:52

comprimising and listening are my two things that help keep our house a happy house. I have children aged 5 , 18 and 19 so its sometimes hard work getting them all to be aligned

cheryl100 · 17/04/2019 19:54

I love to display family photo's and momentos of our holidays; memories are what make a happy home for us

liz1970 · 17/04/2019 20:02

Lovely dim lighting and scented candles :)

cheekychicken24 · 17/04/2019 20:12

My home is clean (most of the time!) and welcoming, but |I don't try to keep it like a show-house. Nobody can relax if everything has to be kept too neat all the time.

APJ1 · 17/04/2019 20:36

Keep the home clean and tidy, with plenty of storage space. Choose bright, cosy furniture and hang up photographs which bring back happy memories.

sarah861421 · 17/04/2019 20:40

rules that we all keep to about basic manners, and respect and trust for all working as a team

xcxcsophiexcxc · 17/04/2019 20:41

Currently getting my partner to paint the walls grey in our living room. I'm hoping it will hide the fallout of the terrible two's. We've has food and drawing and scrapes all over the wall so hopefully this will make my home looks a little less like a squat

towser44 · 17/04/2019 20:41

Lots of photographs and canvasses of trips, holidays and life moments!

jandoc · 17/04/2019 20:42

not being too tidy and letting the house looked lived in

Minnibix · 17/04/2019 20:42

Soft lights, warm colours and cosy throws give a home a lovely atmosphere

MouseRatFan · 17/04/2019 20:43

For me it is having things around the home that represent each member of the family. It may not be the tidiest of houses but it is always our home.

lhlee62 · 17/04/2019 21:08

I like to keep the kid's play area colourful with bright, fun colours. I also like to personalise the rest of the house with photos and pictures the kids have created.

cozza777 · 17/04/2019 21:19

For me I like things quite minimal but photos, plants and objects that make me smile or hold a special memory make my home a happy place.

freefan · 17/04/2019 21:19

We only have simple rules, shoes off at the door and no food in the bedrooms and apart from that the kids can have friends over as long as the parents have phoned me and know where they are.
Toys are all over the house and garden,it is clean but not a show home.

Mitcholiver · 17/04/2019 21:26

Keeping to a routine works in our house so everyone knows what's happening. Also having little days out to look forward to throughout the year.

Blfmomma · 17/04/2019 21:37

Me and DS have a thing about plants, we can always be found looking at plants in shops and love having them in our home.

RACHELSMITH45 · 17/04/2019 21:41

We encourage lots of play and don't mind mess too much during the day. Tidy up on an evening together... lots of family photos and quote canvasses around the home too.
