NOW CLOSED

Sometimes the thought of rain or heavy wind on a day out can make us want to stay indoors and curl up with a film. But, if bad weather catches you by surprise it might even turn your day out into an adventure. Arla Big Milk would like to hear about the adventures you’ve had because of bad weather.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk has to say: “We know how important it is to get your little explorers out in the world around them, so we’ve partnered with Magic Light to bring you yearlong BIG Adventures. We’re also running an on pack monthly prize draw, available across UK grocery retailers, to give you the chance to win an amazing trip to Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Helping to fuel these BIG Adventures, Arla Big Milk is simply fresh whole milk that’s enriched with essential nutrients. So, if you want to join in on the adventure rain or shine, come visit our site to explore activities for your half term.”

Have you raced to find shelter in the woods when you’ve encountered an unexpected downpour? Perhaps you’ve embraced the rain and gone puddle jumping with your children? Maybe you’ve seen a new side to nature when you’ve been out in the wind and rain? Share below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Went down to the beach to play on the park. Ended up playing in the arcades after it started raining and had a great time

My great niece is animal mad & also Peppa Pig mad. Her favourite book is Muddy Puddles which I've read to her countless times so when we went to White Post Farm to see all the animals & it absolutely threw it down, it was so muddy & there were so many puddles so we made the most of it & Olivia loved splashing away in the Muddy Puddles while interacting with all the animals

Last year when it snowed unexpectedly for us we had a great day. We made snowmen, went sledging and had snowball fights. We had hot chocolate outside while watching it snow it was amazing

Emmax12 · 16/02/2019 13:34

My daughter had never been a fan of the rain and mud so I avoided taking her out in those conditions. Once we were caught out in the rain and once she had got over the shock she enjoyed the puddles

Two summers ago we had about a week of just heavy thick rain, the grass was soaked and the ground was covered with giant puddles. The kids were getting so fed. So one day I thought lets just get our scruffs on, waterproofs and welly boots and see how we get on. We went for a really wet and muddy walk around the woodland area behind our house. And actually we all had an absolute fantastic time. The kids loved jumping in the huge puddles and shaking the trees so they 'showered them' and the smell of the wet ground was really lovely. We squelched through the mood and made pictures with sticks. We had such a great time I took pictures and videos and shared them on social media....now all my friends come out with us too when its wet. It is the best time for the kids to go out. Waterproofs are such a great buy...and going home to a hot chocolate is just bliss.

On a camping trip the rain was so bad we got flooded, so it meant we had to all cosy up in a tiny hotel room until we dried out!

sophiefx · 16/02/2019 15:26

We were planning on going for a walk along the beach. Turned out to pour it down all day so we all got our wellies on and went trekking into the woods. Was lovely and so messy but the kids loved it! We went looking for conkers!

We have had numerous rainy summer days spent in my Dad's outdoor swimming pool. It's so much fun swimming in the rain and the water feels warmer too!

emmmaaa26 · 16/02/2019 15:53

We like to go rock climbing in the peaks so when it rains we just makes it into a muddy hike instead.

addverbaan · 16/02/2019 15:56

We got snowed in during a weekend trip to the Lakes. We ended up having to phone in work on the monday that we would not be making it in, keep my son off school and ended up having an extra long weekend break :-D

Many years ago, I remember heavy snow and the buses not running, which was a bit of a disaster for me as we needed supplies, it was too dangerous to drive and we lived a couple of miles out of town. So, being stubborn, I set off for the shops with a rucksack, in wellies and woollies. I loved it, I felt like a real explorer, especially when I returned with everything we needed to "save" us!

I once took the odds to a haven site. On the walk back to the caravan one evening the heavens opened and we were soaked. I ended up picking them both up and carrying them as we got more and more soaked, laughing at how ridiculous it was. They shed a tear or two when they got cold and miserable though.
When we got to the caravan we had to strip off in the kitchen part to avoid soaking the carpet as we were wet through to our skin.

We have had to picnic under a waterproof blanket on a day out with sister and family and mum and family and also watched power boat racing on the seafront in a half a tent because of the wind and rain

MrRichTea · 16/02/2019 16:12

Taking the kids to Snowdonia National Park & it chucking it down, but we put the tent up & had the best time, eating, playing, laughing & making memories

emmav6 · 16/02/2019 16:36

my son will always remember his adventure with his grandad, trying to get home in the snow. They had to abandon the car and walk the last mile and miss half a day of school :)

moosexxx · 16/02/2019 16:38

A few years ago I took my youngest to a junior Parkrun when it was very wet and very windy. The windy was not quite powerful enough to knock you over, but it could certainly push you sideways. We both loved it, and still talk about it now.

kittykomp · 16/02/2019 17:01

being snowed in and we made snow angels

socat · 16/02/2019 17:08

Went on an organised themed bike-ride and got drenched, though the leader made it interesting by commenting on the mysteries along the way!

Forgot was drenched in the end.

It was a hot day so in a way helped to cool down and some of the park-lands seem to come alive.

SSCRASE123 · 16/02/2019 17:32

So many times have my lad and I been caught in the rain either at the match or at training. We've just learned to grin and bear it. There are far worse things that could happen.

RACHELSMITH45 · 16/02/2019 18:03

We had planned to go camping and despite hearing reports of localised flooding we went to check out the camp site. It was a floating camp site so unfortunately no camping that night..however we came across a local puddle jumping festival and we all had so much fun!!We also thought let's check into a nearby hotel and enjoyed a little luxury as a treat

Cashy17 · 16/02/2019 18:22

We went for a picnic in the summer and the weather turned as we arrived, but we made the most of it until the thunder started, so we all headed back to the car picnic aborted, but we played spot the lightning instead, the kids LOVED it and are no longer scared of a storm!

Rachdayan · 16/02/2019 19:09

Family trip to Thailand a few years back, we took a boat trip along the river past the floating markets, but half way through the trip it started to rain like i've never seen before. Like Forrest Gump rain, coming up from the floor! We had to make an unscheduled stop at the nearest place to get off, which happened to be the local police station. The police welcomed us in from the rain and showed us around. Lots of little geckos on the walls! I asked if we could use the toilet, so they showed us the way, which happened to include a walk past all the cells! Most unique boat trip we have ever been on!

barbsbarbs · 16/02/2019 19:14

the best days ever are when we would on our rain coats and wellies and go puddle jumping and go to feed the ducks, the muddier the better

towser44 · 16/02/2019 20:20

We had 2 nights on the Isle of Skye booked. It was late March and we hoped the weather would be OK as it was a 400 mile drive for us. It turned out to be the snowiest weekend ever and took us 15 hours to get there!

twinklenicci · 16/02/2019 21:16
