Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My little 1 sits on the henry hoover

Clawdy · 31/01/2019 14:36

My DS when he was little, helped out by tipping a large bowl of thick vegetable soup into the sink. Took quite some time unblocking the pipe........

WhiteKnuckleRide · 31/01/2019 14:45

My DS has always loved doing "chores". In our house we have a henry hoover and DS loves wheeling him around. He doesn't see it as houswork, he thinks it's fun. We also play games to see who can get the most lego pieces back into the box the quickest!

My 1.5 year old loves to help me put washing back in the washing basket and put all her toys away at bed time!

hmariez · 31/01/2019 15:44

Pulling all the washing out of the washing machine and putting it on the airier (in a pile) and taking everything I’ve already put on off

liz1970 · 31/01/2019 16:16

They love wiping down the cupboards, hoovering up (which can take ages) and polishing :)

Blainalass · 31/01/2019 16:23

Mine used to like mopping and sweeping - the dogs hid.

gd2011 · 31/01/2019 16:46

"Helped" in putting the shopping away. What a mess!

Spices001 · 31/01/2019 16:48

When my dd took every single book from the bookcase & scattered them around the room in an attempt to ‘tidy’ :-)

mummywitch · 31/01/2019 16:49

my 2 older children when the were toddlers they enjoyed hoovering and washing up
my 10 month old loves helping clean my sofa and wash the dog

MY LITTLE GIRL- WANTED TO HELP CLEAN THE BATHROOM - SO PUT AN APRON ON HER AND GLOVES AND GAVE HER A CLOTH AND SPAY AND TURNED ROUND AND THE NEXT THING SHE HAD THE CLOTH IN THE TOILET AND WAS USING THAT CLOTH TO CLEAN THE WALL TILES ! EEK

Angelous · 31/01/2019 17:53

The best way I have found for my kids to help has been what I call the "clothes game".
Every few months or so we empty all clothes and sort what we use/don't use. Teach them to recycle by taking to the charity shop too.

When my daughter was a toddler she loved to 'help' and to my dismay put MY 30 year old teddy in to the washing machine along with a colour wash. I saw his well loved face through the glass too late and needless to say he disintegrated.

TiggersAngel7774 · 31/01/2019 18:16

my son loved to help wash up but the mess was huge

Pillowaddict · 31/01/2019 18:37

Having recently introduced the idea of putting pennies into piggy banks after my dc helped out with tidying up, eldest dd is now super keen. So far this week she's ineffectually swept the living room rug, washed dishes that have already been cleaned and wiped the table brushing crumbs straight onto the floor. All very helpful, and immediately followed by a request for pennies!

Cotswoldmama · 31/01/2019 18:59

My son used to like to help with the laundry by turning the dial whilst it was mid cycle. We now have a child lock on it!

annarack99 · 31/01/2019 19:16

My 2 and 3 year old like to serve their own cereal and milk - argh!

kazlau · 31/01/2019 19:36

My lovely granddaughter (15 months) takes clothes out of her drawers as we are putting the clean laundry away. She’s so cute you can’t be angry with her!

MummyL1411 · 31/01/2019 19:58

I’ve trained my two boys to put their dirty clothes in the washing basket (unlike my husband!). The 2 year old also helps me by putting the babies wet nappies in the bin, unfortunately he gets confused with the waste/laundry bin and more than once I have washed a disposable apply ☹️.

dadshere · 31/01/2019 20:03

my dd 'helped' to wash the dog. This involved tipping a bottle of water over her. In the lounge. It was not good!

ribbo69 · 31/01/2019 20:04

Put all his cuddly toys in the bath when my back was turned though they needed a bath too! lol Took ages to dry them!

strawberrisc · 31/01/2019 20:20

We were painting and decorating our living room. Our toddler obviously took it all in because when we put her to bed that night we assumed she was going to sleep. On checking an hour later she was merrily paint the wall (and herself) in black nail varnish! She was so proud of 'helping' we couldn't be cross. We did take blackmail pictures for the future though!

xcxcsophiexcxc · 31/01/2019 20:32

Little ones loves wiping the floor and tables with a baby wipe

kittykomp · 31/01/2019 20:44

He decided to paint the wall with sudocrem!

Narnianescape · 31/01/2019 20:49

My lo decided to clean the dishes with shampoo.
