NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Both of mine love helping as much as they can with varying degrees of success. Especially in the kitchen they love helping to cook, put away shopping but not so much the cleaning up afterwards :-)

Iggy131313 · 31/01/2019 11:41

My little boy likes to help put the food shopping away and I encourage him to help, granted EVERYTHING from tin foil, to chicken, to washing powder ends up IN THE FRIDGE in a big pile on the bottom shelf, but st least I know where everything is right?

my 2 year old loves helping me load dirty clothes into the washing machine and then the clean clothes to the tumble drier!

juju3 · 31/01/2019 11:57

our liyyle darling is continually dusting her playhouse and me !!!

sunshinewey · 31/01/2019 11:58

My little girl just loved rolling her sleeves up and doing the washing up, she would do this over playing with any toy, really loved feeling grown up, and the hoover she loves hoovering although i did buy her a little Henry of her own as although she is strong dragging around the big hoover was a little too much !

My son helped by cleaning the mark on the wall they made.... until there was a big patch with no paint on x

Ah my son has loved 'helping' from such an early age, and I encourage it coz not only is it super cute, but i know it won't be long before he's a stroppy teenager who won't lift a finger! Also... kids love feeling involved and it's lovely to give them a little bit of responsibility.
DS is so proud when he helps me 'clean the floor' (aka, flood the place) 'sweep up' (scatter crumbs joyously with the broom) and load the washing machine (yay, powder all over the floor!).
He's always hated the noise of the vacuum cleaner, but it doesn't make him cry anymore....he will unravel the lead and plug it in for me, but then hides under a cushion on the sofa til I'm finished!

My son loves to ‘help’ by putting his bottles in the washing machine, because obviously what comes out of there is clean 😂

But actually he’s really good at picking anything like wrappers up and taking them out to the kitchen and putting in the bin, he’s better than my 7yo!!

Mine love to polish or wipe over surfaces they can reach

Sbaynham · 31/01/2019 12:26

My little ones loves following me around with his toy hoover when I’m doing the hoovering

My daughter regularly helps with the ironing

with her toy iron and board

My son loved helping with the dishes when he was little - but this resulted in more cleaning up then before he started lol. I became master in silent dish washing so he didnt come running in to help. And of course, now that he is old enough to help propperly, that is like pulling teeth getting him to do so lol

Olivia loves to help everyone, her Mummy, Nana, GG, Grandpa, both around the house & in the garden as you can see from the pictures where she is helping GG wash up & in Grandpa's garden she has her own little gardening kit & her own area of the garden which she has planted

My DD helped ‘decorate’ my mirrored wardrobes with the contents of my make up bag

Sparklepants3 · 31/01/2019 13:00

They love helping! We have a toy hoover and a mini cleaning set so that they can help mum! Hopefully this will continue when they're older, I have my fingers crossed!

Emmax12 · 31/01/2019 13:04

My daughter likes to wash the walls 😁

Pmliu · 31/01/2019 13:04

My 5 year old & 4 year old likes to sort the cutlery out and put them away in the right draw compartments. My 2 year old likes to wipe surfaces clean, she tries to pick up the big brush and sweep. All 3 of my little one loves helping me with the vacuuming.

vonniebab2 · 31/01/2019 13:29

My little ones used to love dusting the furniture and the floor!

sarah25037 · 31/01/2019 13:36

my 16 month old will 'help' with the washing by taking everything out of the basket and putting it on the floor, she has just started to try and put stuff on the radiators that she has seen me do before when I need something dry asap!

BL0SS0M · 31/01/2019 13:44

My ds has just started putting his books back in the shelf!! woohoo you’ve no idea how great this is 😂

angela25rose · 31/01/2019 13:56

My 3 year old twin boys like to clean the dishes which usually ends up with water spilling onto the floor and flooding the kitchen and the water is usually dripping from them head to toe

ladymadonna1 · 31/01/2019 14:12

Our toddler is almost three, but one year ago he went through a long phase of being obsessed with hoovering. Every time my husband vacuumed with Henry the Hoover, my son would follow him around the house with excitement and sheer joy. In the end, my mother bought him a Henry the Hoover miniature for toddlers. He loved hoovering alongside Daddy, and the sight of the two of them cleaning in unison warmed my heart! I hope that my now nine month old baby follows suit when he starts walking!

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/01/2019 14:21

Mine were more helpful as toddlers (sweeping, putting toys away etc.) than they are now as teens!

glennamy · 31/01/2019 14:27

My toddler's favourite type of helping was to pick up the mess we had swept from hard floors... i.e. placing 'chucking' it everywhere except into the actual bin!

nettymay · 31/01/2019 14:29

My todler amazed us - when he heard his Dad arrive home he switched on the tv to the News as his Dad always watches it as soon as he gets home. He also put his slippers ready!
