Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My children love to help around the house. My daughter has always loved to use the feather duster around the door frames and pictures. She also tidies away stuff, sorts washing and sets the table for dinner. She has always asked me to write her down some chores! She is such a great help. My son is abit younger but he does help with tidying toys away (when he wants to) He also 'helps' me take the washing out the machine but his helping is chucking it about the living room and i catch it. Its more a game than helping haha!

Our daughter loves to help out even though she often makes more mess than she clears. Her favourite chores that she asks to do are the washing up and the hoovering but only with the handheld one as she is scared of the big one.

My little one likes to help with dusting and cleaning the fridge providing there is an incentive given ie a treat

maryandbuzz1 · 31/01/2019 09:08

When I was busy baking my son ‘helped’ by getting everything out of the fridge including eggs and smeared them over the kitchen floor!

You need so much time and patience for toddlers to 'help' with anything but it is so good! There are lots of little jobs they can do! Funny how bed making also ends up with bouncing on the bed...parent and child haha!

Washing up his cup in the fish tank and putting the paper left on the side in the bin (the paper was £100 in notes but luckily we noticed it in the bin).

Both of mine were obsessed with polishing. It was such a good way of getting them distracted so I could get on with some other things. I would just give them a duster and the polish and they would happily stand polishing the coffee table for absolutely ages.

My daughter loved washing up!!! I think it was the Fairy bubbles that enchanted her!

shellywkd · 31/01/2019 09:22

My daughter loves to help with the dusting and she regularly sweeps the kitchen floor, not very well but at least she tries

crystalfire · 31/01/2019 09:29

my toddler is awesome at cleaning up! anything from wiping our leather sofas with baby wipes, cleaning off the table with baby wipes, putting her yogurt pots etc in the bin and spoon in sink, taking her plate and cup to the sink, taking the dry clothes off the airer and putting them into the dry basket plus tidying toys away! We make it into a game :-)

mutleythegooner · 31/01/2019 09:33

My toddler 'helped' to clean the toilet but managed to block it with a j-cloth and half a pack of wet wipes!

03kelwil · 31/01/2019 09:38

My two youngest 2 and 4 actually enjoy helping me I think lol they help when taking the washing out and put it in the dryer they also love using baby wipes to clean absolutely everything Grin

Lindseymorris29 · 31/01/2019 09:55

My dd loves to help with the washing, remote controls, bits of food and miscellaneous items. if you are looking for something it is most probably in the washing machine.

My 5 year old is getting good at helping around the house now , but when she was younger she often 'helped' to do the sweeping up by getting the dust pan and brush and moving things around . Not too much help as it goes , but she enjoyed doing it

Bez33 · 31/01/2019 10:49

My 5 year old is actually pretty good at doing small helpful tasks - taking dirty clothes to the laundry room, putting plates back in the kitchen etc. My 2 year old, however, likes to ‘help’ too - her favourite task is feeding everyone. So from breakfast, through to dinner, she helps by picking up food and shoving it into my mouth! She also likes to ‘stir’ the scrambled eggs mixture - there’s always a lot less egg than when I started!

mo3733 · 31/01/2019 10:49

unfortunately its more a hindrence when i fill the washing machine and she unfills it

jessiecat333 · 31/01/2019 10:52

We used to have to call my daughter when she was younger Cinderella, then she would help hoover, clean and fold the washing she loved it

finleypop · 31/01/2019 10:59

Helping sort the colours & whites is a favourite & teaches colours in a fun way at the same time

hiddenmichelle · 31/01/2019 11:02

mine love to hoover! My skirting boards do not fare well though!

jochrisbryan · 31/01/2019 11:05

Lots of times, she always helps with my tasks as it keeps her entertained, laundry sorting is a favourite.
She helps clean up after meals and has her own broom, dustpan and a little mop.

strawbubbi · 31/01/2019 11:08

My 3 year old helps me and my partner sort out the washing, puts whites/colours/darks into separate piles, and then helps us load the washing machine and press the button. He also has his own Hetty hoover so he can help whilst we do the actual cleaning. He likes helping with the washing up, puts his dirty cups and plates into the sink. He also knows to wipe up any mess with baby wipes. He is generally pretty good around the house :)

devito92 · 31/01/2019 11:13

my ds saw me scrapping the ice off my car, he decided to scrape the ice off the bonnet. Only to find he was digging the edge of the scrapper in. Thus scrapped lines into the paint work !!!!!!

AuFinch · 31/01/2019 11:14

aww our son always wanted to help loads of times!

when i brought in the shopping he would help me by unpacking all the bags at the door in the frantic "want nanas" - thats want bananas search.

our bath had a shower tap on it and he wanted to help me clean the bath which resulted in me having a shower at the side of the bath.

but the worst one was when i was using blacking on the cast iron fireplace, i usually apply it on and work it in a bit then leave it a while before buffing it up, so i applied it all and then was putting it all away and came back into the living room to find he had buffed it up with his beanie teddy, buffed himself and the wall (thank goodness it was painted as it would have been a nightmare to get off wallpaper)!

Mitcholiver · 31/01/2019 11:20

We encourage our toddler to put his dirty clothes in the laundry basket, put his plate by the sink and his favourite job is hovering this can keep him amused for ages!!
