Mumsnet users share the parenting moments where they've wondered "Is it alright if…?" with O2

NOW CLOSED

Parenting isn’t easy. The pressures of daily life make it even trickier, never mind the ages of your children, or whether you're a stay-at-home mum or a working one. Anyone who's been stuck with a teen on a bad day or a toddler … on any day, will know that sometimes you just need to do whatever it takes to get by so you can hold onto your sanity for another day. Even if that means flexing your parenting methods from time to time.

Here’s what O2 has to say:
"#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

So what does it take to break you and make you question your parenting prowess? Do you tell your children carrots are good for night vision so they eat their veggies? Always carry a packet of sweets to use as a bargaining chip when you’re out and about? Or do you volunteer to be seeker so you can sit on the sofa, eating crisps and shouting "I'm coming to get you!" every three minutes…?

Share the moments you've wondered #isitalright if …? and what drove you to it with O2 to be in with the chance to win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

#isitalright if … I abandon MumsNet for my parenting support and go to another website with no background in the subject?

Why on earth would I do that?

BaconCrispsGone · 21/07/2018 12:38

is it alright to let my children run across the road when I know there are no cars coming?

TellMeItsNotTrue · 21/07/2018 14:41

I struggled most with eating out -

Moving from baby food to normal food - is it still alright to take my own? What's the cut off age?
Toddler - is it alright to use my phone as a distraction when food is taking a while to come?
Toddler - is it alright to share my meal rather than buying a kids meals that won't really get eaten?

I'm glad I'm past that point and eating out is a lot less stressful!

ipswichwitch · 21/07/2018 17:24

Is it alright to take the batteries out of the noisy, irritating toys and lie and say they’re broken?
On that theme, is it alright to buy DN the most irritating, noisy toys known to humanity purely because BIL has done the same to us over the years, and deliberately too judging by the smug look in his face when the DC open them on their birthday

SalutHallo · 21/07/2018 20:23

#isitalright If I feed my DS food he throws on the floor?!

ifigoup · 22/07/2018 06:16

Is it all right to not “rescue” my child when he gets stuck at the top of tall play structures, but rather make hom work out himself how to get down?

YerAuntFanny · 22/07/2018 08:53

#IsItAlrightIf my kids think it's a treat to have a "night time breakfast" i.e. cereal and toast, when I just CBA cooking dinner?

I figure that if breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day then they might as well have 2 occasionally, just to give them an extra boost obviously...

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 22/07/2018 21:47

#isitalrightif...

We can’t use the dining table because there is an intricately built town of sylvanian families living on it?

We have been eating off our laps all summer Grin

GetKnitted · 22/07/2018 22:22

#IsItAlright if I put my earphones in during music practice?

JustDoOne · 23/07/2018 01:52

#IsItAlright that I wear noise cancelling headphones around the house when I can't stand the noise anymore?

Notabee · 23/07/2018 07:46

#isitalrightif I pretend to have work supervision once a week when it's actually only once a month.
I drive round the corner, park up and just stop for a good hour.

Playdohnut · 23/07/2018 13:58

#isitalright if I let my 9 year old walk to school on her own?

Sammyislost · 23/07/2018 14:49

#IsItAlrightIf I send my children to bed early so I can play on the Xbox One and get a win or two on Fortnite? I do love a Minecraft build as well, but THEY AREN'T ALLOWED TO PLAY ON MY SAVE AND RUIN MY HARD WORK!!!! Thats okay, right?

Peoniesandcats · 24/07/2018 03:51

#isitalright if I skip a breast pump now as I am so tired!

Goingovertosusanshouse · 24/07/2018 10:57

Is it alright to watch 2 films back to back?!

Sleavercole123 · 24/07/2018 12:47

#IsItAlright if my wife and I go on a short holiday and leave my (then) 6 year old daughter? She had a great time, so yes it was!

Sleavercole123 · 24/07/2018 12:47

I should have said leave with her grandparents!

79lauren79 · 24/07/2018 15:12

#isitalright that I use the disabled toilet when I'm out as can't fit the buggy and me in a normal toilet, can't leave the buggy outside and can't take a little one to climb all over the floor in public toilets? Never feels right but really don't feel like there's any other option.

Mamabear1986 · 24/07/2018 21:02

#isitalright to cuddle my youngest boy to sleep every night. After my 1st son I said I would never get into the position again where my child would only fall asleep if I cuddled them. Now, here I am again... cuddled up with my baba until he falls off to sleep peacefully. Yes I've made a rod for my own back but do you know what? I don't care. This time is precious and i will enjoy every cuddle I can get because I know, before long They won't need me as much as they currently do.

leanneth · 24/07/2018 22:45

Is it alright..... if we have two takeaways a day on very rare occasions? 🙈😳

kateandme · 25/07/2018 04:17

is it allright to say screw you to the food police.and allow the coco pops.and chip.and sugar.and chocolate.and also to no that equally I will and can balane this out with the good stuff and teach them food is all good.and I will never want to shame or make them feel anything but love for all foods and themselves whether they eat smiley faces or an apple

Triangularsquare · 25/07/2018 10:56

#IsItAlright that O2 have totally ripped off this hashtag from the Last Leg / Paralympics #IsItOk thing? Phew. Been dying to let that out since seeing these ads appearing. As you were.

Tortycat · 25/07/2018 16:46

#isitallright to lie to ds1 and say soft play is only open when it rains? Or give them the ipad whenever i have to get something done...

MargoLovebutter · 25/07/2018 17:01

Is it alright to go to Poundland on the billionth consecutive rainy day in a row and tell the DC that they can have anything at all that they like?

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/07/2018 20:39

#isitalright if we eat several ice creams a day in this heat even though they are technically a treat food? (Yes) :)
