Mumsnet users share the parenting moments where they've wondered "Is it alright if…?" with O2

NOW CLOSED

Parenting isn’t easy. The pressures of daily life make it even trickier, never mind the ages of your children, or whether you're a stay-at-home mum or a working one. Anyone who's been stuck with a teen on a bad day or a toddler … on any day, will know that sometimes you just need to do whatever it takes to get by so you can hold onto your sanity for another day. Even if that means flexing your parenting methods from time to time.

Here’s what O2 has to say:
"#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

So what does it take to break you and make you question your parenting prowess? Do you tell your children carrots are good for night vision so they eat their veggies? Always carry a packet of sweets to use as a bargaining chip when you’re out and about? Or do you volunteer to be seeker so you can sit on the sofa, eating crisps and shouting "I'm coming to get you!" every three minutes…?

Share the moments you've wondered #isitalright if …? and what drove you to it with O2 to be in with the chance to win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Is it alright that my kids watch shrek on repeat while I doze.

butunlikely · 19/07/2018 13:43

Is it airtight to use ice cream to keep my toddler in one place for more than 30 seconds?? No other food will do it!

Imgettingcheesefries · 19/07/2018 16:08

#isitalright to hide noisy toys and a lie when dd3 asks me where they are

LilMrsSilly · 19/07/2018 16:18

Is it alright to tell my 3 year old he will wake up with black teeth if he didn't brush before bed, or his eyes will turn boxy if he watches too much telly, or to pretend I have a headache when I need a nap

shuggas · 19/07/2018 16:20

Is it alright that when my daughters tooth fell out just before Christmas and we forgot to do the switch that we wrote a note saying sorry she was busy helping Santa and it made her late

Exploring · 19/07/2018 16:47

....to use my teenager as an excuse not to do any more work today? I blocked out 3 hours on the calender with 'cinema trip' but they've gone off on bikes for the first time to be independent.
My other one is - is it ok to always answer can I have a biscuit/cake/sweets with yes but apple first.

areyouactuallykidding · 19/07/2018 16:56

#Isitalright if I sometimes call up the CBeebies Bedtime Story On Demand at 6:30 and pretend to my 3 year old it's already 7pm?

bridgetosomewhere · 19/07/2018 17:28

Is it alright to let my dc play the PlayStation even though it’s a lovely sunny day?

They have just spent 10 days in a pool in Majorca tho...still makes me feel bad that they aren’t in the garden this afternoon!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 19/07/2018 18:37

#IsItAlrightIf Their dinner is beige and from the freezer?
It’s hot I’ve had s busy day I cannot argue about healthy eating again tonight

Lindseymorris29 · 19/07/2018 19:14

#isitalright if I say to my children if you are sad, it's perfectly ok to cry, and unfortunately in this world it is not all Disney, Rainbows and fairies sometimes life can be hard, but that's ok too!

NeverTwerkNaked · 19/07/2018 19:23

#isitalright to pretend I need the toilet just so I have an excuse to get two minutes peace? Happens most days with four children Blush

EsmeeMerlin · 19/07/2018 19:43

#isitalright I sometimes deliberately choose the shortest story possible for bedtime as I just want him to go to bed so I can actually relax for 10 minutes.

kimberleyc · 19/07/2018 19:44

#isitalright if I just watch whist the 15 month old helps herself to a pot of cold custard from the cupboard somehow opens it and 'eats' it...covering herself and then sliding round the kitchen floor on her tummy. I think at this point I had been up multiple times in the night and was women at 4am to start the day. Tired does not even cover it!

boo2410 · 19/07/2018 21:15

#IsItAlright to let kids eat their dinner and pudding back to front? I think so long as it's all eaten there is no problem.

Cd89 · 19/07/2018 21:31

#IsItAlright to hide his beloved birthday present light sabre after only 3 days???

Oh, and #IsItAlright that DC genuinely believe that sugar will make them grow little?! Little white lie grew legs, but it does make them sugar conscious!!!

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 19/07/2018 21:41

Is it alright that not quite two year old dd has a pretty severe cheese and ice cream habit.
Not usually together but I don’t think that she’d be averse to it. Envy

Calphurnia · 20/07/2018 00:19

All right aLL right ALL right please!

foxessocks · 20/07/2018 07:16

Is it alright that I often pretend those ride on machines in shops are broken because I can't stand the crying when they have to get off?

Headfullofdreams · 20/07/2018 07:41

Is it alright if my kids eat in the car in case they choke whilst am driving! Is it alright if my 14 year old babysits the 10 year old?

Treaclespongeandcustard · 20/07/2018 13:39

#isitalright if we share a bed? DC sleeps better but I don’t. Which is worse, being awake and sat on DC’s floor all night or being elbowed in the head occasionally whilst in bed with a wriggling DC?

RippleEffects · 20/07/2018 16:34

Is it allright if....I demolish one of the DC's Easter eggs. At one DS2 was never going to eat 10 large eggs on his own.

cheaperthebetter · 20/07/2018 21:41

If you don't eat you fruit and veg and drink a bottle of water a day....you will have really bad skin (spots) , greasy hair and little muscles!(more for the boys)

Ratbagratty · 20/07/2018 21:48

#isitalright to hand the teething baby over to her dad when she bites while she sleeping tries to latch onto me? Ouch!

Scotgirl80 · 21/07/2018 00:03

#isitalright to pretend I need to go to the toilet so my partner can take over and I can catch up on my Snapchat feed!

MakeTeaNotWar · 21/07/2018 08:13

#isitalright if I just let my 7 year old read and read and read at night even if it's far too late and sometimes 10pm when she finally falls asleep as it's easier than having her up and down the stairs interrupting Love Island??
