What do you add to your laundry? Find out what Mumsnet users told Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Laundry can be a personal thing, and with many products you can add to your detergent to ensure your laundry is just how you like it, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the things you choose to add to your wash - and why.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “What are you looking for to give a little extra 'oomph' in your washing - stain removal action? Softness boost? Colour care? anti-odour or allergy protection? If you could add one power you wish your detergent did for you without the extras what would it be”

Do you add fabric softener to all of your washes, or omit it when you’re washing towels or bedding? Perhaps you have a preferred method for adding stain removers? Maybe you use colour catchers so you don’t need to do separate washes? If you use fabric softener, do you follow pack recommendations for dosage or gleefully pour it in?

All who post on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I use a capful of zoflora & a colour catcher Smile

EasilyDistracted77 · 16/06/2018 21:20

Jellyslice have you tried putting white vinegar in the softener compartment (instead of softener) to get rid of malingering odours? I have found this to be the only thing that gets rid of the smell of wee, so it could also work on other body odour smells... And incidentally, the clothes Do NOT smell of vinegar afterwards.

I use a colour catcher with every wash - I still wash white & coloured loads separately - but it helps stop coloured garments running into other coloured garments.
I add fabric conditioner to every load as I love the extra fragrance.
I add a whitening sachet to white loads in a vain attempt to remove the stains from my sons school polo shirts - I'm yet to find something which removes all the stains though.. I don't know how he managed to get them so grubby! School dinners, crayons, mud, sun cream, grass stains & any other numbers of culprits!

Jenacles · 16/06/2018 22:04

I use washing gel and fabric softener in most washes if they are going on the line.

If it's raining and I'll be using the tumble dryer I won't bother with fabric softener - it's not needed.

I always uses the correct doses - it lasts much longer than when I used to just pour it in!

Pitapotamus · 16/06/2018 22:31

I add fabric softener unless I’m washing cloth nappies when it’s not recommended. Occasionally I add a stain remover like vanish oxiaction.

sarahsnail · 16/06/2018 23:26

Lenor unstoppables, make the laundry smell amazing Smile

Aftereights91 · 17/06/2018 08:09

I always use fabric softener but it never seems to make the clothes soft enough, it would be good if there was an extreme fabric softener

Millipedewithherfeetup · 17/06/2018 08:51

@aftereights91...use concentrated fabric conditioner and double the dose.

TheWizardofWas · 17/06/2018 08:51

Blood, sweat and tears......

And ocasionally a colour catcher cloth.

ursuslemonade · 17/06/2018 08:51

Soda crystals in with the powder ( to replace about 25% of w.p.) and I either use ecover f.c. or white vinegar. Don't really like very scented washing as it can give me a headache. For stains I tend to soak first with vanish or ace.
Unless it's pouring outside washing goes on the line. A day of sunshine gets rid of leftover stains.

Minimonkeysmum · 17/06/2018 09:42

Stain remover! I always add a scoop of mineral bleach to our wash to get rid of stains and sanitise clothes. It helps keep whites white and brights bright!

TwoGinScentedTears · 17/06/2018 09:45

No fabric conditioner for towels and I always dilute fabric conditioner when I do use it.

For white school shorts I add a whitener and for sports kit I add laundry disinfectant.

If I'm washing blazers or coats I add those extra strong pearl things.

Who knew I owned and used so many products? And this doesn't include the old fashioned laundry bar soap that I use on the the white sports socks and shirt collars and cuffs!

joggingrunning · 17/06/2018 13:48

I add fabric softener to my clothes as as I want really soft clothes and they make them smell great too. I always follow the directions written on the bottle of the fabric softener.

Weareboatsremember · 17/06/2018 18:51

I use fabric softener with everything apart from my 4yo dd’s washing as she still has a tendency to chew on her comforter when she’s in bed 🙄
I love that clothes smell so pretty when you get them out of the cupboard to wear them!

GetKnitted · 17/06/2018 20:50

I didn't even know that people added anything other than detergent and softner, and we gave up on softner because it was just gunking up the washing machine!

guiltynetter · 17/06/2018 21:44

I use washing liquid that you add to the drum (fairy non bio) fabric softener (lenor) and a scoop of Vanish if it’s particularly stained or if it’s a whites wash. I use Dettol antibacterial liquid stuff instead of fabric softener If the laundry is yucky like if my DD has wet the bed or if i’m washing my work uniforms (work in healthcare).

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 17/06/2018 22:51

I use powder and softener in every wash. I also put a colour catcher in with each wash, and sometimes Vanish in with whites!! Omg I hadn’t realised how much I put in Grin

I recently got a second hand tumble drier as, with 3 children, the laundry was getting on top of me. Absolute game changer! It’s my favourite thing in the house.

I got a sample of Unstoppables in my supermarket shop this week and put it in with my bedding wash - it smells lush!! Will definitely try them again.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 17/06/2018 22:52

In fact my whole house smells lush - maybe I need to put a bit less in!

SleightOfMind · 17/06/2018 22:58

Couple of capfuls of bleach in with the whites.
Splash of Zoflora for the dogs’ things.

Chocmallows · 17/06/2018 23:39

Zoflora linen in sports clothes wash.

Floralnomad · 18/06/2018 00:10

I use both powder or liquid depending on what I’m washing . Every load gets dettol laundry cleanser , anything with stains gets stain remover added and the stain is sprayed before washing . I use Lenor unstoppables in most washes and I use fabric softener for all clothing and sheets but never in towel washes . I generally don’t measure stuff out I just hazard a rough guess . I also use tumble dryer sheets in the dryer .

PremierNaps · 18/06/2018 02:30

Fabric softener. I switch it up though so you don't get too used to the smell 😊

SkaPunkPrincess · 18/06/2018 16:45

jelly make a paste out of bicarb and rub it into the pits of your shirts/tops and leave for 5 minutes before washing as normal.

Works really well for sweat stains on collars too. Also as hot a non-eco wash as your clothes will take.

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/06/2018 19:25

I add fabric softener to all washes and a water softener as our water is so hard. I love a bit of zoflora too. :)

OverByYer · 18/06/2018 19:35

A PP mentioned the French Savon de Marseilles, I’d pay triple to buy washing products that smell that good here.

I use fabric conditioner in all washes except towels as it makes them feel slimy.
I use Zoflora instead then tumble dry. Smells fab.
