What do you add to your laundry? Find out what Mumsnet users told Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Laundry can be a personal thing, and with many products you can add to your detergent to ensure your laundry is just how you like it, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the things you choose to add to your wash - and why.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “What are you looking for to give a little extra 'oomph' in your washing - stain removal action? Softness boost? Colour care? anti-odour or allergy protection? If you could add one power you wish your detergent did for you without the extras what would it be”

Do you add fabric softener to all of your washes, or omit it when you’re washing towels or bedding? Perhaps you have a preferred method for adding stain removers? Maybe you use colour catchers so you don’t need to do separate washes? If you use fabric softener, do you follow pack recommendations for dosage or gleefully pour it in?

All who post on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Fabric conditioner with every wash.

Pre-wash stain remover sometimes

A limescale table for the machine from time to time.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 15/06/2018 14:59

I use 2 powders one for whites and one for colours. Fabric softer on all washes except towels and t towels...I usually add zoflora to bedding and towels was too.

mrkaykay · 15/06/2018 16:44

Just a capsule and conditioner for us though once our budget relaxes a little I want to try the scent pearls that are about nowadays

littleme96 · 15/06/2018 16:49

I use laundry liquid, stain remover powder and fabric conditioner.

Pretty standard really!

gemmie797 · 15/06/2018 16:58

I love loads of fabric conditioner in my washing so that it smells good but I have to be careful what I use as my son is allergic to many brands

TweetleBeetlesBattle · 15/06/2018 17:15

Just vanish. Anything with a scent seems to trigger eczema.

chrissie28 · 15/06/2018 17:22

I add washing soda - grandma's tip

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/06/2018 18:14

Colour catcher sheets in with a mixed wash.
Fabric Softener in each wash (though only use a tiny amount with towels as it too much fab softener makes towels less absorbent when it comes to drying off after a shower/bath.)
A cap of zoflora in with DH's sports stuff.

I would lurvvve a washing powder that also dries the clothes, irons them & then puts them away.........in my dreams Grin

The3 · 15/06/2018 20:35

Dd has eczema so we use bio powder and no softener. I will occasionally add a scoop of vanish for stains, but will then run an extra rinse.

Sleepysausage · 15/06/2018 20:41

I add napisan to the bedding on alternate washes. Also i use half a colour catcher in every mixed load.

humding · 15/06/2018 21:31

I use a Bio powder and usually that's it. I will use freebee samples but save them for when they might help a specific problem. Other than pretreating stains that I know need a squirt of detergent ahead of the wash I don't use anything. I avoid all fragranced products and use less powder than recommended. Not keen on 30 C washes though.

3boysandabump · 15/06/2018 21:45

Washing powder, fabric softener and a colour catcher so there's no need to separate whites/darks

HowDoYouPronounceJohn · 15/06/2018 21:58

I add fabric softener to both clothes and towels. Stopped using it on towels for a while as I read that it contributed to making them rougher, but stopping it didn't seem to make them any softer again so I went back to using it. As for the amount, our machine shows us how much to use (or the maximum, at least).

We've never done separate washes, except for clothes/bedding and towels, as already stated. We just rinse any new, dark item in hot water first, and then add a colour catcher when in the machine for the first time.

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/06/2018 23:08

I don’t add anything other than a laundry tab thing. We have four children and a constant mountain of laundry to wade through. I just throw stuff in the washing machine with a tab and hope for the best, too busy breaking up fights and cooking for hoardes hungry people and working to give it any more thought than that Blush

runningwithbob · 15/06/2018 23:12

I add fabric softener to all washes except towels (stops them being as absorbent) and gym gear (affects their sweat wicking ability). Have tried those scented beads but they’re quite pricey and didn’t seem that effective.
My machine advises how much detergent is needed according to the weight of the load, I tend to stick to this as otherwise it takes forever to finish it’s cycle!
Other than being guided by what’s on offer, I also switch my fabric softener regularly so that we have a nice new scent for a while.

Treaclespongeandcustard · 16/06/2018 02:34

I use fairy non bio and that's about it. Softeners tend to give DC a rash but I used to like these before children.

ipswichwitch · 16/06/2018 07:19

Usually a ton of stain remover to the DC’s washing - DS2 is an absolute muck magnet.
A bit of zoflora usually goes in with DH’s work stuff since his is covered in more grot than both DC’s clothes put together!

Altimate · 16/06/2018 10:34

Depends what I’m washing. Fabric conditioner for some washes but not for children’s stuff, or towels / tea towels etc. Whitener sheets for some shirts, bedding and bras. Laundry antibac in final rinse for bedding, towels, tea towels.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 16/06/2018 11:05

I use fabric softener and vanish in most, if not all, washes to get the best result that I can

I wish there was a product that made clothes look brand new again when they were washed, bright colours and no stains and smelling fresh

Maladicta · 16/06/2018 11:57

I bring gallons of French savon de marseille washing liquid back whenever we're there. For a fresh, clean smell it just can't be beaten. I pre-treat stains and use colour protector sheets when needed. Don't use softener.

Amaksy · 16/06/2018 12:48

I don't use fabric softener would've been my response but my washing machine has a separate hold for this and I found an old bottle the other day and poured this in. I've used it to wash the curtains and when washing bath mats otherwise I omit in washing as I heard it doesn't have a good effect on clothes.

c75kp0r · 16/06/2018 17:15

Soda crystals . Sometimes fabric softener but just a little drop as it is a bit strong for my liking

AGrinWithoutACat · 16/06/2018 17:35

Hate fabric softener and the artificial scents

Use a basic washing liquid with white vinegar in place of softener and line dry whenever the weather allows

UpOnDown · 16/06/2018 20:00

I add vanish to my whites

Orangepear · 16/06/2018 20:18

I put a half dose of fabric conditioner in with the children's clothes. I add a scoop of oxy powder if I think it needs it.
