What do you add to your laundry? Find out what Mumsnet users told Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Laundry can be a personal thing, and with many products you can add to your detergent to ensure your laundry is just how you like it, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the things you choose to add to your wash - and why.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “What are you looking for to give a little extra 'oomph' in your washing - stain removal action? Softness boost? Colour care? anti-odour or allergy protection? If you could add one power you wish your detergent did for you without the extras what would it be”

Do you add fabric softener to all of your washes, or omit it when you’re washing towels or bedding? Perhaps you have a preferred method for adding stain removers? Maybe you use colour catchers so you don’t need to do separate washes? If you use fabric softener, do you follow pack recommendations for dosage or gleefully pour it in?

All who post on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I would love it if I could add something to make my clothes come out wrinkle free!

I just use washing liquid and fabric conditioner, sometimes zoflora if something is particularly gross

Always a scoop or two of oxy powder for stain "lift", softener (teeny amount for towels).

I use powder, it smells better and isn't packaged in harmful plastic.

Special colour powder for darks and brights, bio for everything else except silk and wool that I do use a liquid hand wash for (despite using the machine).

A dash of zoflora in with towels and bedding. Smells divine

I use fabric softener for most washes as I like everything to smell good. For towels I add zoflora.

I used to live in a very hard water area, do added a tiny dose of unscented fabric conditioner..

Now in a soft water area. I'll add a dose of white vinegar to the rinse of clothes from my old house that can't be tumble dried, as they still dry crispy but, otherwise, nothing.

Non-bio powder and fabric conditioner in every wash apart from adults bedding and work shirts. Anti-bacterial stuff in with anything that can't be washed at 60 but has needs it eg gym kit, certain kids clothes if had accident. Use half dose of fabric conditioner and only a dash for towels.

Oh and whites powder in with whites. Would like washing powder to be antibacterial if it could do one thing.

I try and add as little as possible as I have sensitive skin. But since having DD a dose of vanish gets added regularly!

I mostly just use washing powder without adding anything else. Now and again I will add a splash of Zoflora to something particularly whiffy but that's quite rare. I don't actually want my clothes to smell of anything, we have enough fragrances on a daily basis as it is with shower gel, deodorant, perfume etc.

Fabric conditioner every wash. Sometimes some vanish crystals on a white wash. Sometimes a colour catcher sheet if I think it's necessary. And stain remover where needed.

I love colour catcher sheets, my toddler has loads of very brightly coloured clothes so I put 3 in each wash and it seems to stop them going dull when I wash them with jeans etc. For white washes I use wash powder, stain removal powder and sometimes vanish, then hang out in the sun to get the stains out (suncream seems to be worse than mud, food or blood!)

I don’t add anything at all but I like abrasive towels as they dry better

Report
NotClear · 14/06/2018 07:58

I use fairy pods and comfort bluebell and bergamot (now discontinued so am using my last bottle - sob!), and now the 'fresh' unstoppables and a colour catcher in each wash, except a white wash, where I occasionally add a dr Beckmann whites sachet instead of a colour catcher, or just leave out the colour catcher.

I use vanish gold prewash gel for any stains and sometimes, rarely, soak a stain in a napisan bucket for a few days (with or without vanish first).

I can get out oil, pen, grass and fruit stains no problem with vanish and napisan. Makes me feel smug every time!

Detergent
Fabric softener
Zoflora (linen scent) for fusty smelling clothes (two teenage boys with rank PE kits the usual target for this)

I add white booster to my whites wash.
I omit fabric softener from my towel wash.
I add bicarb and white vinegar when I wash my shower curtain.

Pretty standard washing powder and softener here. I like the smell of fairy best but usually it is whatever is cheapest. I use non bio for clothes and then bio for DH’s farm clothes. No reason for the non bio really other than I like the smell of it! Fabric softener only added to clothes/bedding. Towels and nappies don’t get softener.

I might add some unstoppables if I’m feeling fancy and I have some vanish as a last resort for stains, but don’t usually need it. I also have a secret stash of my all time favourite fabric softener that I only use on my clothes as the smell would just be wasted on DH Grin

I use a prewash stain removal spray, laundry pearls and Calgon.

Report
RoseDog · 14/06/2018 11:14

I use powder and softener in every wash and add scent boosters to bedding as they are too expensive to add to every wash!

Report
WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 14/06/2018 12:56

I always add fabric conditioner.
I add napisan or stain remover to dds really grubby clothes.
Sometimes a capful of zoflora to dhs really stinky sports kit.

Colour catcher sheet, liquid tab, scoop of vanish or similar oxi action wash (just in case) and a dash of concentrated conditioner as I live in a small house with limited storage so I literally don't have space for a huge bottle of conditioner and I find the concentrates are similar value for money if used properly.

I also hang the washing outside as much as possible as I don't have a tumble dryer and hate having damp clothes in the house!

To add, for an extra oomph I would love it if there was something that made towels fluffy without having to use a tumble dryer and all of my drying methods seem to leave me with something resembling a spa exfoliating implement rather than a towel! this is regardless of the amount of softner/ conditioner!

Brightener to a white wash & steak remover to a heavily soiled load. Not a fan of fabric softener so I never use this

Report
MinaPaws · 14/06/2018 13:59

I never add conditioner as we worked out that it was the bright white 'fat' deposit that blocked our drains twice. As soon as we stopped using it, the problem disappeared.

But I sometimes add soda crystals as the water is very hard, or Calgon tablets. I add a capful of Zoflora to DCs sports kit and their towels which they chuck on their bedroom floors, despite years of nagging concentrated discussion about hygiene.

Occasionally I add some bio powder to a white wash if school shirts have stains as I only use non- bio powder usually.
