What do you add to your laundry? Find out what Mumsnet users told Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Laundry can be a personal thing, and with many products you can add to your detergent to ensure your laundry is just how you like it, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the things you choose to add to your wash - and why.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “What are you looking for to give a little extra 'oomph' in your washing - stain removal action? Softness boost? Colour care? anti-odour or allergy protection? If you could add one power you wish your detergent did for you without the extras what would it be”

Do you add fabric softener to all of your washes, or omit it when you’re washing towels or bedding? Perhaps you have a preferred method for adding stain removers? Maybe you use colour catchers so you don’t need to do separate washes? If you use fabric softener, do you follow pack recommendations for dosage or gleefully pour it in?

All who post on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Just the basics, powder rather than capsules or liquid apart from fabric conditioner which is liquid and some soda crystals. Wish there was something quick and effective for armpits as the deodorants that promise no hute marks do not seem to be very good.

BaconCrispsGone · 14/06/2018 14:52

A small amount of detergent and that's it 😀

Lweji · 14/06/2018 14:59

Vinegar instead of fabric softener.

Water softener always. Sometimes Calgon, sometimes supermarket own brand.

For grease stains, I always put some washing up liquid directly on the stain, then wash. Not sure that counts.

Rarely, whitener/stain remover powder if it's really grubby. Less so that DS is older.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 14/06/2018 16:14

Fabric softener on all loads except towels, where I use white vinegar instead. Stains get a good rub with the Vanish bar which seems to remove most things!

ThenCameTheFools · 14/06/2018 16:30

Powder for whites at 60
Liquid for colours at 60 or 40
Blue Lenor for everything, occasionally zoflora
Vanish for stains
Once a month one of those wee bottles of gunk cleaner in a 90 degree wash.

Muffinbutton · 14/06/2018 17:09

I don't add anything. Just use non bio due to sensitive skin

Gumbo · 14/06/2018 19:12

I spend 8 months of the year washing a huge pile of kids rugby shirts once a week... you can only imagine the amount of mud/grass stains/blood on them! I add soda crystals to the wash... nothing else gets the shirts clean, and the result is honestly amazing. I also sometimes add them to my 'normal' mucky family sports/school clothes... it's good old-fashioned magic! Grin

dragontwo · 14/06/2018 19:12

occasionally a scoop of stain remover for whites powder

mitalmanda · 14/06/2018 19:20

I tend to use a colour care wash liquid with fabric softener, found the scent boosters were gunking my machine up and not really adding an extra scent. I'm trying to use more powder and less concentrate as it dissolves better, and started using a regular washing machine cleaner too. For extra cleanliness of towels, sheets, etc I add some Zoflora to the drawer.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 14/06/2018 20:23

I use Fairy non bio and if it's a particularly grubby wash will add a stain remover but try to use one with less chemicals. I want clothes to be clean and bright whilst caring for my children's delicate skin

ScreamingValenta · 14/06/2018 20:44

I'd like something with a lasting fresh smell, so your things still smelled like they were just off the line even after being back in the wardrobe for a while.

dannydog1 · 14/06/2018 20:50

I just add fabric conditioner to all washes, including towels. Stain treatment spray when needed. I wouldn’t really want these added to the detergent as I like to alter the dosage according to size of the load etc

nina19877 · 14/06/2018 21:38

My dp likes to mix dark and light colours together, making my white bra's a limited edition shade of yuck. Or my ds likes to put sweets/fruit/lego/biscuits/small toys in the washing powder drawer when no ones looking. But i prefer to just use Fairy liquid capsules as well as the Fairy fabric softener. Smells amazing!

Elsasalterego · 14/06/2018 22:22

“What are you looking for to give a little extra 'oomph' in your washing - stain removal action? Softness boost? Colour care? anti-odour or allergy protection?

Stain removal action for sure.... can't stand yellow sweat stains on DH's armpits... and yukky yellowy spilt milk dribble stains on baby clothes - grim.

If you could add one power you wish your detergent did for you without the extras what would it be”

Remove those!!! Currently I use vanish roll-on to clear stains before putting stuff in the wash.

Lindy2 · 14/06/2018 22:24

Liquitab in with the clothes and a splash of fabric softener in the tray as I think it makes the wash smell fresh. I sometimes also chuck in a scoop of soda crystals.

GreenShadow · 14/06/2018 22:28

I add nothing other than liquid laundry detergent. And then I try and avoid anything that has a perfume. The new 'improved' Persil for colours smells awful and I have had to stop using it.

So please manufacturers. Less artificial perfumes.

Jooleigh · 14/06/2018 23:36

As well as my detergent I always add:
One cap full of fabric softener, usually Lenor Summer Breeze - we all like soft clothes & fluffy towels with a delicate fragrance,
Vanish Gold for my whites, especially school shirts - I do think it keeps whites brighter (although sometimes I've resorted to rubbing toothpaste over really stubborn stains & leaving in the sun),
& Dettol Laundry Cleanser because it was recommended to me to help keep my machine smelling fresher, which it does.
If I could choose something to give extra oomph it would be something to stop deodorant / sweat staining /yellowing.

avocadoadvantage · 14/06/2018 23:41

I use real powder rather than capsules or liquid. Usually add softener apart from towels and cloth nappies. Also, I’ve recently started using colour catchers and am always shocked about how yucky they look. Finally, most washes need a spray with oxygen stain removal spray as the children’s clothes often have food, mud or unidentified stains. It would be good to be able to combine products somehow!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 15/06/2018 00:43

I used to always add fabric conditioner now having children with sensitive skin it’s washing powder and nothing else.

Katearty · 15/06/2018 01:52

Fabric softener in every wash.

Oxy clean in with the stained white washes!

And scent boosters when they are on offer! Love them but they are so damn expensive!

jbiscuits · 15/06/2018 06:40

We don't add anything extra at the moment. However with DS starting school in September, and suddenly a load of white polos to wash, colour catchers and stain removers sound very appealing!

Amber0685 · 15/06/2018 10:31

I use Vanish prestain remover and add fabric softener, except towels. I wash whites separately with a scoop of Vanish powder. Use less detergent than recommended as a washing machine repairman once told me you don't need as much as it says on the packet. Always do an extra rinse, sensitive skin.

LJH79 · 15/06/2018 10:44

I add some biotex for stain remover but use all in one tabs. Sometimes add conditioner if washing bedding.

user1495807524 · 15/06/2018 11:30

I add lenor to every load of washing.

cathisherwood · 15/06/2018 11:51

I don't add anything but would pretreat any really stained areas - then most of washing is hung outside to dry. I hate artificial smells in the laundry but have lavender sachets in the airing cupboard with the bedding, in the wardrobe and in the underwear drawer
