NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I wash in cold water for some biological and use a stain remover for others. The key seems to be to rinse before the stain dries.

I find that nothing washes white cotton more effectively than bio powder and, if that fails, a stain remover and even bleach.

I find a stain remover like Oxi is brilliant at removing stain quickly and first time.

AnimalAddict · 11/06/2018 16:36

Soak in cold water, use stain remover then put out on the line :)

Use VANISH soup or stain remover when pre-washing the clothes before the machine wash

JoJoY · 11/06/2018 16:59

Cold water asap

LauraMMM · 11/06/2018 17:14

Steep the item as soon as possible in hot water and vanish. If its a blob of stain then i make a paste from vanish and rub it in then straight in the machine with more vanish.

Use vodka on school shirts to get rid of pen and ink, it really is a lifesaver!

Cailin7 · 11/06/2018 19:16

A soak in cold water with some vanish rubbed in before washing for most things. I find for white shirts, sheets towels etc a 10 minute soak in a little cold water and bleach gets rid of all stains. Washing up liquid and boiling water in a bucket, steep, then rinse and keep repeating is good for greasy oily work overalls. (hate cleaning DS overalls)

cold water and fairy washing up liquid takes out most stains

sarah861421 · 11/06/2018 20:03

act quickly,

pennwood · 11/06/2018 20:05

Deal with stains immediately. I use a toothbrush with Fairy liquid on & give the stain a gentle scrub then put it in the wash as normal. This method seems to cope with most stains well.

maureen3733 · 11/06/2018 20:15

i found add in the wash stain removers to be the best things ever for all stains

tiddles12 · 11/06/2018 20:51

If you want to remove stains and restore whiteness on white cotton clothing, pour a capful of neat bleach on the stain/clothes and cover in BOILING water.

Pmliu · 11/06/2018 20:51

I uses soak it in vanish then use Dr Beckmann stain slayer before I pop it in the wash with another dose of vanish, that usually does the trick

alsproject · 11/06/2018 21:10

we use the Vanish spray and it seems to do a great job

sophiefx · 11/06/2018 21:10

Good old Varnish always does the trick for me! And sunlight!

RACHELSMITH45 · 11/06/2018 21:20

I swear by vanish gel - use it straight away and rub the stains away! If I don't have that in, I've found that rinsing clothing with water and washing up liquid actually works a treat too!

Rachdayan · 11/06/2018 21:31

It's about getting to it straight away if you can. Soak it in hot water and rub a vanish bar on it another stain remover and let it sit before adding it the wash.

vixxx666 · 11/06/2018 21:33

Cold soak, wash in the machine and then hang in the sun to try!

Strigiformes · 11/06/2018 21:36

I soak stained clothes in vanish powder then wash in a normal wash.

freefan · 11/06/2018 22:17

Soaking overnight with a stain removal products is what I do then in the wash in the morning and it usually works without the need of scrubbing, this is of course if the stain is fresh.
If older or dried in some stain removal applied direct and given a good scrub before soaking overnight and normal wash in the morning.

lhlee62 · 11/06/2018 22:18

Grease marks I put a small dab of washing up liquid on and rub the spot before putting in the machine. Tomato sauce I use the sun to bleach out, for most other things I use Vanish stick

socat · 11/06/2018 22:22

soap or stain remover (at time of stain if at home) before washing with quality powder. Have an app too which I can ask it about stains.

sweir123 · 11/06/2018 22:22

I use fairy liquid straight away and get a good lather before throwing stains in the washing machine

lynsmagoo · 11/06/2018 22:37

Dr. Beckmann Stain Remover kit is my saviour! it solves every stain!
