NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I'm convinced that direct sunlight is the best stain remover. Especially for toddler food stains.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 30/05/2018 18:16

Use an oxy spray stain remover and dry in sunshine.

VilootShesCute · 30/05/2018 22:51

I use astonish stain remover powder and washing up liquid (bio d) as a paste and scrub in. Leave over night. Hasn't failed me yet.

partyof3 · 30/05/2018 23:06

I use fairy non bio and if that doesn’t work, Ariel Ultra. Grin

MismatchedPJs · 31/05/2018 00:31

Train children to help! For toilet training, have a bucket of soapy water by the washing machine and get them to drop wet clothes in. For grass stained cricket whites, my child just puts them in cold water when he gets home. That's enough to stop the stains setting.

I still spot treat any tricky stains as my mum taught me. Dampen the spot, adding a bit of normal detergent and rubbing the 2 sides of the area together, working the detergent into the stain.

Fairy washing up liquid, applied neat and left overnight. Rinse through then wash as normal before line drying in the sun.

My best ones are definitely sunlight helps to remove stains. Also immediate soaking rather than letting staain to dry

voyager50 · 31/05/2018 09:36

If there's blood on something I make sure I soak it in cold water and salt straight away - it makes a big difference to how well it comes out.

enidlowrij · 31/05/2018 10:05

fairy liquid with a little bit of water or just soak it in a jug with fairy liquid. always works. sunlight helps too. fairy liquid trumps and stain remover.

MycatsaPirate · 31/05/2018 12:47

Immediately take off the clothing, apply Vanish and rub it in and then wash it straight away.

I find that it always comes out. I also like my whites out in the sunshine to help keep them white.

queenoftheschoolrun · 31/05/2018 14:58

I don't have much luck with stain removers but hanging clothes in bright sunlight sometimes does the trick!

MiniAlphaBravo · 31/05/2018 15:23

Line drying seems to get rid of most stains.

If anyone knows how to get rid of Biro pen from cream leather, though, I’d love to know!

joggingrunning · 31/05/2018 16:05

I try to dampen the stain with a little washing powder before putting straight into the washing machine.

NeverTwerkNaked · 31/05/2018 16:06

For baby poo stains line drying on a sunny day works wonders. I used cloth nappies and even the most pooped in nappies were always sparkling white after drying on the line!

Jezebells · 31/05/2018 16:21

The best thing is shout spray. If the clothes are white then bleach.

angell74 · 31/05/2018 18:25

I try to get the stain as quick as possible with warm water and stain remover. I have had some success removing fat stains by ironing the item on brown paper which seems to absorb the fat.

ncullinane · 31/05/2018 19:02

I find there's not a lot the sunshine doesn't get out, I usually wash as normal and then hang in the line and most of the time the stains come out.

del2929 · 31/05/2018 19:22

ive always been told if a stain is too difficult to get out then dry the item in the sunshine and it will lessen the colour of the stain. .....and it actually works!

Daisymaybe60 · 31/05/2018 20:54

A cold water rinse straightaway for most stains, then adding stain remover powder to the wash, followed by outdoor drying. For vomit, rinse first, then soak in a solution of warm water and bicarbonate of soda, which gets rid of the smell, before washing.

Occasionallyknownasmum · 31/05/2018 21:20

Use stain remover and warm water to dab the stain wash as normal then pop it out on the line in the sun... stain gone!

claza93 · 31/05/2018 21:22

Cold water first and then use a stain remover! The key is to get it in soaked asap.

buckley1983 · 31/05/2018 22:03

For oily stains - nothing beats Dr Beckmann's stain remover - it's the only thing I know that shifts them. It's saved me many a top!
Hairspray works a treat on pen marks - sprayed straight onto the stain, not sure why it works - but it does!
I'm still on the lookout for a hack to remove suncream stains from the collar & sleeves of white clothing!!

GetKnitted · 31/05/2018 23:49

fresh blood (occupational hazard) rinses out best when fresh and in luke warm water

Beeziekn33ze · 01/06/2018 01:00

It's amazing how many stains disappear when carefully scrubbed with a nailbrush and a little hand wash or wash
Hing up liquid!

Amang · 01/06/2018 10:02

I use fairy washing up liquid put it on stain and then straight in washing machine. Gets all the mud stains out of my daughters joggers when she's been out on her bmx. Works so well have told all my friends and they are using it now.
