NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Soak in baking soda solution, then leave in the sunlight, this definately works!

My approach to all stains is to soak in water, then rub in with a stain removal powder. Put in washing machine and hope for the best! Mostly it works, but occasionally there remains something of the mark. My main ire at the moment is reserved for those charcoal face pack type things which my DD loves and which has permanently stained one of her nicer bright white T-shirts.

I've had luck before by soaking in white vinegar, and then rubbing with a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Pop it in the regular wash with some Fairy detergent, and voila!

I must say, I do use fairy washing up liquid as my first go to remover! It does work a lot!

I often just scrub stains a lot with whatever detergent is at hand - usually washing up liquid but sometimes hand soap or shampoo has worked! The main thing I try to do is to treat it as soon as possible.

HelenSw4les · 22/06/2018 16:51

Washing up liquid is my go to stain remover; though I do try and get to the stain as soon as possible rather than leave it for a day or so to "set in", especially tomato and grass type stains which can be so difficult to remove if you leave them.

Grease stains - washing up liquid and hot water, then wash as normal.

Even worked when 3 year old's new trousers fell in an oil vat (don't ask!).

I try to wash out stains as soon as they happen. Usually try cold water first before panic sets in and I read up on what might be useful.

Sometimes I will give things an extra wash - but the sun helps the most.

I bought an Astonish bar - it's magic!

Freezer worked for chewing gum and slime then a good scrub, wd40 for the chewing gum, nail varnish remover is also a go to for me when all else fails! Napisan is a lifesaver for whites

tubbyj · 01/07/2018 23:29

For carpets get kitchen roll on ASAP and soak up the spill to get rdi of almost all of it before trying to remove the stain

PolkerrisBeach · 05/07/2018 17:04

The best tip I've ever had is to try to dry items in direct sunlight wherever possible, it really bleaches out the stains if there are any remaining after washing.

PorridgeAgainAbney · 09/07/2018 09:07

I can't use Vanish as it upsets my skin, so it's usually a case of rubbing the stain with our normal bathroom soap bar then putting it in cold water for a while before it goes in the wash. Then hoping the sunshine will do the rest Smile.

Vanish x

Stain Slayer and sunshine every time!

SilverHairedCat · 13/08/2018 08:43

When addressing a stain, hit it inside and outside the item of clothing - it will often have soaked through by the time your are dealing with it. Especially if it's an oily one.

Apply the stain remover the both sides of the material and scrub on both sides to activate it.
