NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I work a little laundry gel into the stain neat before I put the item in the wash. Works really well!

If it's a small, fresh stain, a little saliva gets out most food/blood stains. Sounds gross, but nothing seems to beat it.

always try and treat stains when fresh. a paste of milk and bicarbonate of soda put onto a biro stain and left for an hour before washing usually ensures it vanishes in the wash. soda crystals added to wash help remove stains you missed and did not pre treat.

I remove oily stains with talcum powder and a touch of water.Leave for a couple of hours. Pour over a little liquid detergent and using a toothbrush massage in. Rinse.

With 3 girls and a cat I much prefer natural stain removers...

Sunlight for clothes works really well..

If I’m struggling and need to use something chemical based I always use non toxic products.

We give it to Granny, she knows how to get everything out. sadly she wont share her secrets.

tabbaz123 · 11/06/2018 13:09

Do it straight away!! I never leave stains I always try to lift them as they happen. I do use a little dab of fairy washing up liquid on some - works just as well as more costly stain removers

moonray · 11/06/2018 13:15

I sometimes use liquid soap, dab some onto a wet towel and gently rub into any stain (particularly food stains on clothing). It's brilliant!

omgitslani · 11/06/2018 13:26

I always found that rubbing washing up liquid into a stain and allowing to soak for a while before putting clothes in the washer helps to remove stains

sallyhartley · 11/06/2018 13:33

I spray the stain with stain remover then wash. If it's a stubborn stain pre soaking in vanish helps

glennamy · 11/06/2018 13:34

Soaking the stain (if possible) immediately with some detergent usually does the trick

sm2012 · 11/06/2018 13:47

Definitely sunlight for stains in our house! I try to soak it first with stain remover and water but putting stained items in the sun works pretty much every time!

Goingovertosusanshouse · 11/06/2018 13:51

Fairy liquid and sunshine! ☀️

Minnibix · 11/06/2018 14:00

It does depend on the stain if it is blood I soak in cold salt water. With every day stains I tend to rub a little of the washing liquid into the stain before putting in the wash. My top tip would be never let a stain dry

cluckyhen · 11/06/2018 14:20

For lipstick in carpets use vaseline - simply scrapes the colour away.

4GreenApples · 11/06/2018 14:20

Sunlight is great for getting rid of tomato based stains.

Helsbells68 · 11/06/2018 14:22

Washing up liquid is great for any greasy stains

juju3 · 11/06/2018 14:24

I always use the appropriate stain devil

lizd31 · 11/06/2018 14:47

Lemon juice is great for sweat stains & it's also good for rust stains mixed with salt

Marg2k8 · 11/06/2018 15:04

Having just spilt curry on a white t-shirt, I resorted to bleach to get the stain out.

feefeegabor · 11/06/2018 15:27

I either wash in cold water or soak overnight in washing liquid. Soda crystals also work wonders for stain removal as does a dab of lemon juice!

frances93 · 11/06/2018 15:30

I normally use vanish but in times of emergency I use any washing powder I have mix it with water and scrub it on the stain/s, or if in doubt ask my mam as she always knows!

sheilads105 · 11/06/2018 15:40

Deal with them straight away. I rely on Dr Beckman stain removers.

get to stains straight away, baking soda and a microfibre cloth seems to lift most stains on fabric or carpet
