NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

treating it straight away...vinegar or baking powder are amazing depending on the stain! As well as hairspray

Katieraventimeout · 11/06/2018 09:45

Fairy washing up liquid work a small amount into the stain and rinse before u wash it

bubbleybooboo · 11/06/2018 09:47

Use some washing up liquid and water to remove makeup and oil-based food stains. Dab or scrape as much of the stain off as possible. Pour some washing up liquid onto the stain and wait 10 to 15 minutes. Gently rub the stain with a damp towel before washing at recommended level in the washing machine x

try and get the stain off as soon as possible before it dries into the fabric

shroney · 11/06/2018 09:49

I use vanish straight away and soak - always works a treat.

footdust · 11/06/2018 09:49

I find that soaking the stain asap in cold water avoid it drying in and a good scrub with vanish soap bar works well. Drying outside in sunlight also does wonders for bleaching out stains.

When I had my little boy I discovered Napisan...my god it was a lifesaver! I have continued to use it but also do a mix of vanish powder and napisan..it works miracles!

Deal with the stain straight away if possible. I have found White, Black and for Coloured 'Vanish' our Stain saviour

BL0SS0M · 11/06/2018 10:08

I use the vanish soap before a wash then out on the line for some sunshine

emmav6 · 11/06/2018 10:15

i admit im rubbish at getting stains out, i soak them in stain remover or spot clean before a wash but it is rare i ever get them out :(

meepmoop79 · 11/06/2018 10:21

This completely depends on the stain. Cold water is good for some things, as is vinegar. I had a stubborn blood stain which i was able to eventually get out by scrubbing with Oxy 10. However, when i then washed the shirt, the area where the stain had been turned into a big hole! Caution required....

Ranita · 11/06/2018 10:36

Vanish bar soap works a treat on most stains.

michael888 · 11/06/2018 10:40

If I get a stain I like to soak it straight away so that it doesn't set and then a wash.

AuFinch · 11/06/2018 10:44

I hate stains and I hate faffing about doing this, and that, the old wives tales, the waste of time tips and ruining clothes! the worst for stains has to be the white school shirts - i got so tired of trying to get them clean that one day i got a bucket filled with water and added a squirt of bleach and left them to soak from friday to sunday morning - rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and washed really well (put them in on own on intense wash setting) and hey presto almost new shirts - it got everything out that had been on those shirts for a full year!!!! was most impressed and now i just wash them but every half term do this soaking method and have not had to buy loads of white shirts anymore i love it - just make sure you really rinse out well before washing again or wash them a few times to get the residue bleach out. Dont waste your life scrubbing - let them soak and have some fun!

Blainalass · 11/06/2018 10:49

Neat washing up liquid gets some - but needs caution as it can fade the fabric.

janeyf1 · 11/06/2018 10:56

soak in baking soda initially, then scrub before putting in the machine at a high temperature

Cambam2010 · 11/06/2018 11:01

If you have a grease mark on clothing, apply neat washing up liquid to the stain and then wash in the machine as normal. The washing up liquid is a great grease dissolver.

Salt in cold water is also good for fresh blood stains.

Get to them asap, rub soap into the area, boil wash

Yaracuy · 11/06/2018 11:57

Depends on the stain, one thing I know for sure if it needs water, it has to be cold water otherwise whatever the stain is it will stick to the material. The colder the better.
For instance If it is grease or oil I use washing up liquid, it gets rid of it immediately.

Astonish Stain Removing Spray

iut044 · 11/06/2018 12:14

Soak in hot water as soon as possible .

Kellylee1988 · 11/06/2018 12:16

Vanish bar, works great on most things

lovemyflipflops · 11/06/2018 12:20

I have a spray on stain remover which I spray on gravy, tomato, mud and carrot puree which seems to do the trick for everything. For others its a soak overnight in a bucket with a spoonful of bicarb, and a trick from my sister - hairspray for pen crayon and residue from slime.

Funkyferret · 11/06/2018 12:24

I'm with everyone saying catch it before it dries or sets in. That said, you can't always just strip off and soak a garment! In those circumstances I find a pre-wash with powder stain remover usually does the trick.
