NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

For white towels fill a bucket with boiling water and then drop in 2 or 2 of those tablest that you use to clean your dishwasher. Let the towels soak overnight and then wash as normal.

Get it in the wash quickly

Spices001 · 11/06/2018 06:51

Get a baby wipe on stain asap! For a particularly bad one go for the vanish

WarmHugs · 11/06/2018 06:54

My DS split greasy food all over a white football shirt yesterday, I sponged it off with a baby wipe, and it worked!

Clairecricket1 · 11/06/2018 06:56

I use washing up liquid i rub the liquid in dry on the stain before washing.

Shaving foam to clean blood out of clothes.

for me I just find the best thing is to try and rinse the stain in some water as quickly as you can, not always practical when out and about, thankfully a gentle wipe with some wet wipe has saved some of my childrens clothes in the past. I also find if the clothing can cope with a 60 degree wash then this is also good. I dont tend to bother too much with all these fancy stain removers and none of our clothes have stains and I have some very messy children

a small amount of fairy direct to stain and a small rub before washing

amyhalliday1 · 11/06/2018 07:26

Rubbing detergent on stains with cold water on a Pre wash always works well x

Lindseymorris29 · 11/06/2018 07:28

Toothbrush and stain remover prewash if I am out of stain remover it's toothbrush and a soappowder or liquid soap concentrated concoction prewash. The trick is getting the stain as fresh as possible, and not adding water or wiping with a babywipe and allowing it to sit as this will seal the stain into the garment!

I keep a selection of Stain Devils to remove stains. I'm not keen on the fact they contain chemicals, but I wash clothes very well after applying the solution and it works!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 11/06/2018 08:00

If anyone can tell me how to get toothpaste stains out of clothes I'd be eternally grateful!

xcxcsophiexcxc · 11/06/2018 08:11

It does depend on the stain my white vinegar is pretty good !

hdh747 · 11/06/2018 08:13

Treat it as fast as possible, I usually use a stain remover spray

happysouls · 11/06/2018 08:19

Wear black or dark coloured clothing?! If that fails then soaking and scrubbing and referring to the internet for exact guidelines before starting!

phillie1 · 11/06/2018 08:20

treat them as soon as you can

shellywkd · 11/06/2018 08:34

I use Vanish on my daughters white school shirts. I find baking soda and white vinegar are amazing on really tough stains and pre soaking always helps.

bevmichelle47 · 11/06/2018 08:35

Washing up liquid is great oil marks from their bikes, coke is also good on stubborn stains when placed inside the machine in a cup.
Plus vanish is also good for stains too.

vickyg88 · 11/06/2018 08:42

I find most stains on clothing will come out with a small amount of Fairy Liquid rubbed gently into it before it goes into the washing machine.

AR2012 · 11/06/2018 08:50

soak the stain in oxy stain remover then in the wash it comes right out.

jelleng · 11/06/2018 08:56

Blood stains will be set by using warm/hot water, wash out immediately with cold water.

SSCRASE123 · 11/06/2018 09:01

Catch the stain/spill as early as you can, don't let it dry.

ThemisA · 11/06/2018 09:01

I confess I am not very good at laundry, we have sensitive skin so tend to use liquid soap which is great for refreshing but not much use for stains. I think I make more stains on my t-shirts than the kids! I do sometimes use a stain remover powder but find some stains just seem too embedded. Wearing dark colours helps!

bob55 · 11/06/2018 09:09

take it round my mums and let her work her magic

taylajc · 11/06/2018 09:13

Cold water for all stains. DAB, don't rub! mix bicarb with water into a paste and scrub onto carpet or clothes and leave for hour (best left in the sun!)
