NOW CLOSED

Mums(netters) know best when it comes to stain removal and that’s why Fairy Non Bio wants to hear about the stain removing secrets you have up your sleeve.

Here is what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “With the summer holidays on the horizon, we know all those BBQs with ketchup, Pimms and playing on the grass is going to give you a bit more of a challenge with your laundry. What are your quick tricks of the trade when faced with a stain?”

What’s your go-to method for removing red wine stains? Do you use the classic technique of adding white wine straight away, or is there a trick that we’re missing? Do you use kitchen staples for stain removal: perhaps vinegar or salt? Perhaps you have a method for removing tough grease stains that you swear by?

Whatever your methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

A bit lame, but rinse them out before they set.

I had some woven straps on a high chair that were pretty bad. I sprayed them thoroughly first (Can't remember exactly what- could have been flash, could have been stain pre-treat) with the idea of getting in between the fibres. Quick scrub with a discarded toothbrush. Then straight into an overnight warm soak in detergent -in the sink because the straps were still attached to the seat. I covered the sink to keep the heat in as long as possible, so it had a good few hours before the water got cold. Then rinse- result was very good, straps came out as new.

Mine is simple - don't drink red wine in the first place. It gives me a headache and removes any risk of stains

Everyday washing up liquid, rub it in before you wash the clothes.

A mixture of washing up liquid, white vinegar, stain remover shaken into a foamy froth and dabbed onto the stain before a wash gets a good result.

A few crushed down aspirin tablets in your washing machine works great on your whites .

When you have a 14 year old daughter it's a combination of a dirty neck and fake tan! Always use a stain agent on school (white) shirts before washing.

To get marker/sharpie marks out, blot the stain with surgical spirit on a clean cloth. The sooner after staining the better, but it does mostly come out. This was a godsend when my kids' school went through a phase of giving them whiteboards and markers, and every single polo shirt came home with black marks on :(
Also, not strictly laundry related, although I guess it could work on clothes too, but to get crayon marks off carpet, spray with WD40, and wipe gently. It works like a dream!

Soak in a bleach and water mixture if nothing else works

Lasplin84 · 17/06/2018 13:33

Acting quickly before the stain has time to take hold is key. I find rubbing the stain with liquid washing powder and leaving to soak is very effective.

Vodka dissolves permanent marker on wall, floors and furniture

katieskatie82 · 17/06/2018 14:35

leanneth · 17/06/2018 15:26

I try to get things washed as soon as possible!

sbruin1122 · 17/06/2018 20:01

stain devils all the way!

Bellroyd · 17/06/2018 20:03

Act fast so that the stain doesn't get a chance to set.

Elizasmum02 · 17/06/2018 20:19

depends on the stain but egg whites works great on most things, so does washing up liquid

Simey68 · 17/06/2018 21:07

For me it has to be the trusty Vanish, absolutely nothing beats it

cocochips · 17/06/2018 21:09

I use washing up liquid on stubborn stains before putting the items in the wash

liane1987 · 18/06/2018 11:50

If you get an oil stain on your favorite leather handbag coat the mark with baby powder and let it stand overnight. By morning, the stain should be gone.

laurapotz · 18/06/2018 18:59

Deal with the stains quickly. The longer they are left the harder they are to get rid of. Sometimes I do just give up though and the item goes in the bin or gets saved for messy play.

angela121262 · 18/06/2018 19:13

Vanish works for me , white wine removes red wine .
