Doing the laundry can be a messy task - whether that’s getting rid of your children’s unexplained stains or dealing with the piles and piles of clean clothes when you’re done. Who would blame you for dreaming about the kind of space that could make it all seem a bit more manageable. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about what would be in your dream laundry room.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Did you know that the average mother spends 5 months of her life doing laundry? That’s a lot of pulling tissues out of pockets, separating loads and pairing socks! Imagine that you had your own separate laundry room. What would you want to make your life easier and nicer to spend time in?”

Would you have a separate washer and dryer? Or shelves for each family member’s clothes? Perhaps you’d have a fold down ironing board? Maybe you’d have everything - from appliances to airers - hidden away in cupboards?

Whatever would be in your dream laundry room, share it below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I have a good sized laundry room but the layout is all wrong and I cannot change it. There are two doors, and they are just in the wrong place! It means that I cannot fit all that I want to in there and still have space to iron.

So, my dream laundry room would have

Outside door to the garden very close to the washing line
Inside door to the kitchen
Shute from upstairs into the laundry room
Space for washing machine and dryer, but not stacked
Butlers sink and draining board for soaking, washing football boots, paint brushes etc
Worktop space on top of the washer and dryer for big ironing baskets, ideally three of them for each of dirty washing, clean washing ready to be ironed and then ironed clothes ready to go upstairs
Cupboard wall space for laundry products, household cleaning products, pegs, shoe care, medicine box, first aid kit, kids painting, swim kits, PE kits, outdoor shoes and wellies
Full height cupboard space for steam mop (not that I have one, but we are talking dreams aren't we?), wall mounted and constantly charged cordless vacuum cleaner, sweeping brush, dustpan and brush, behind-the-radiator duster, feather duster etc
Big hooks or a suspended or wall mounted rack to hang ironed clothes or clothes that are drying
Airer to dry clothes on, ideally one of the top of the range heated airers from Lakeland that includes a cover, pegs and a mesh thing to try knitwear flat, I've been salivating over one of those for a good few months!
I would also like a little cubby for nice but functional things that just would be lovely to have. Like ironing spray, room spray, tumble dryer sheets and stuff like that which gets me excited.

I think my dream laundry room would be much bigger than the standard kitchen!

Washing machine
Tumble dryer
Ironing board & iron
Laundry basket
Storage shelves
Locked cupboard for detergent
Room (& instructions) for my DH & DC...

My dream laundry room would be upstairs to avoid traipsing up and down stairs with laundry and to keep it away from the muddy dog, wellies and football boots that seem to take over the utility room. It would have a large drum washing machine and separate tumble drier and a pull down aired attached to the wall. It would have plenty of room for a large ironing board to be permanently set up with steam generator iron. I'd then have a big worktop for organising clothes, and shelves to house the plastic tubs that all the clean clothes go in and a hanging rail for all the ironed clothes. Oh and a tv too!

I'm lucky enough to have space in my garage which we use as a laundry area but it's more a walkthrough than a clean, lovely laundry room.

So the idea of a dedicated space with room to sort and fold washing (without dropping it onto the messy floor...), a separate washing machine and dryer and space for all the laundry paraphernalia sounds lovely.

wonkylegs · 12/03/2018 22:13

I've given this thought and often wished we had space to make it a reality.

Separate room not part of a walkway
Washing machine, tumble dryer and a drying cabinet
Rail for hanging clean stuff on hangers
Sheila's maid
Storage for cleaning materials, mops, hoover etc out of sight
Fold out ironing board with tv in front of it
Lovely view of garden out of window
Deep sink
Space for storing washing baskets
Worktop space

My dream laundry room would be futuristic and robots would do all the washing, sorting, ironing and hanging back in the wardrobes.
They'd also have robot cleaner friends who would tidy and clean my house when I'm at work and then disappear when I walk through the door.

A massive tumble dryer.

A cupboard full of washing "extras" - linen spray, tumble dryer sheets, glo white sachets, colour catcher, stain removers etc, tasteful pegs in a proper little bag, I will be organized and ready for any washing scenario 💪

A state of the art steam iron.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 12/03/2018 22:40

The guys that owned my house before I did built a massive heated drying rack in the utility room that runs off the central heating. Seriously ugly to look at but couldn’t be without it now. It dries a whole load of clothes in an hour!

WhiteFreesias · 12/03/2018 22:55

I'd love a laundry room and in my dream house I would have launderette in a modern, mid century style. At least two washing machines and one massive, vented dryer.

I'd have enough cupboards to store powder and supplies. Countertop, drying racks and a rail to hang things on hangers straight from the dryer. Fold down ironing board, mini fridge (for winering) a TV for Netflix and music.

I might as well go the whole hog and have a laundry shoot, linen closet and ironing press.

dressinblack · 13/03/2018 00:11

I would love my detergent, comfort, detail cleanser, oxi etc in storage boxes next to a stacked washer and drier and a unit with baskets for each family member and ironing and a dedicated fitted rail for hanging shirts.

I have the poor mans version of this but I dream of fitted units, a sink and it all to be light and airy rather than shoved into a dark unused corner.

Dixiestampsagain · 13/03/2018 00:12

Even having space in the kitchen for a tumble drier would be amazing, so a small laundry/utility room would be heaven!

AnimalAddict · 13/03/2018 06:06

Washing machine
Dryer
Ironing board
Drying rack
Lots of storage!

MimiJoy · 13/03/2018 06:11

A state-of the-art washing machine, airer, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board and having someone regularly on hand to do it all for me!

alabaster002 · 13/03/2018 06:22

A mangle and a ceiling mounted airer - the old ideas are still valid!

Spices001 · 13/03/2018 06:33

My dream laundry room would have a lovely lady working in it who also loves ironing

lulu987 · 13/03/2018 06:33

My dream laundry room would be nice shiny top of range appliances with a robot in the room to do it all including ironing

adamcorner · 13/03/2018 06:49

One with a washing robot that collects dirty washing and returns clean clothes folded and to the drawers

MakeTeaNotWar · 13/03/2018 06:52

Staff to do all washing, drying, folding and ironing for me??!

I would love separate washing machine and tumble dryers, lots of counter space for folding. Lots of cupboard space with shelves to keep the various detergents, stain removers etc and a fold down ironing board.

lovemyflipflops · 13/03/2018 06:53

I would love a large laundry room, so would love a separate (large load) washing machine and tumble dryer, I would also have a couple of stand up airers for delicate items, and towels which take an age to dry, next to that would be the top of the range dehumidifier. For the ironing area it would be a top of the range steam iron which breezes through the ironing in no time. There would of course be the obligatory radio for me to dance around the room with whilst being a domestic goddess.

barbsbarbs · 13/03/2018 06:56

A professional ironing machine, coloured baskets to indicate where different colour clothes go. A shaft that sends each basket up to each bedroom and a large industrial washing machine and tumble dryer. This would be perfect. There would never be a lost sock ever again

vonniebab2 · 13/03/2018 07:00

Lots of worktops, cupboards and a traditional ceiling clothes airer

dogdog · 13/03/2018 07:02

A utility room with plenty of space and cupboards / shelving to store washed and ironed items.

Fletch80 · 13/03/2018 07:10

The room would be overlooking the back garden because I like to peg washing out on a dry day.
It would have a top of the range washer and separate dryer and some sort of integrated ironing board.
I'd like a TV so I can watch something while I'm ironing, cupboard space for washing powders etc, and a heated airer.

Narnianescape · 13/03/2018 07:10

An ironing machine, so I don’t have to iron.

user1491928364 · 13/03/2018 08:02

The actual sun itself so that everything would dry naturally really quickly. I d t mind washing, but despise all the hanging up and drying faff that follows.
