It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Couldn't live without my tumble dryer. I have children who feel like if a piece of material has touched the air outside the wardrobe it's filthy beyond all recognition and must been washed. I live in the north east so, as sad as it is, I get excited about sunny days where I can hang washing out to dry all the other days I have too much washing to dry inside so my tumble dryer is my 'right hand man's so to speak.

Definitely my new kettle which has different boiling options. Saw one in a holiday apartment last year and talked about It that much since I got one for Christmas!
Boils at different temperatures depending on whether you're making green tea, black tea or coffee.

(the one on holiday had a keep warm option too)

Fridge / freezer has to be my favourite with Hair Straighteners a good second as I naturally have afro/curly hair.
Fridge though as we like to entertain guests a fair amount. Love having friends and family stay over plus others for dinner. I technically would love a walk in fridge!! Miss it from my days of working as a chef. So plenty of space is essential as often have lots of food prepared or a yummy dessert for our guests.
My friends all think it's funny how much I like to cook and bake for people. But it brings so much joy to share meals together and I often have my daughter want to help me to. (She's always asking to bake)

Kettle, microwave, toaster : could improvise food for days with those.

And the washing machine, sadly....

Zebee · 20/01/2018 08:23

Kettle - I know you can boil water on the gas job but I make a lot of tea!!

NineteenForever · 21/01/2018 08:48

The kids would say the tv or their tablets.
I think many hours of life would be different, ,not to mention lots of effort required to toil if we didn't have a washing machine.

This sounds really vain but my must have electrical item is my hair straighteners. I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards if I don't use them!

Signoritawhocansway · 21/01/2018 20:12

It's a toss-up between the fridge or the washing machine for me! Everything else would be cope-able with!

MrsGruber · 26/01/2018 22:11

My DAB radios, in bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.

Rigbyroo · 27/01/2018 09:25

Kettle. Used frequently!

seeingdouble2 · 27/01/2018 22:36

My boiler, love to have a shower everyday to take the cob webs away!

Peachpie14 · 29/01/2018 07:55

My 'Alexa' Since I've had my baby girl and have my hands full I can ask her to play a song, to dim the lights or to remind me to do things or add things to my shopping list Smile And her baby video monitor so when she does sleep (occasionally) I can get stuff done while keeping an eye on her.

I don't think I could do without a radio. These days, preferably DAB to get the decent range of music. DH has spoilt me for any old speaker too so now I really prefer good sound systems.

I could not live without my washing machine especially now I have my baby boy it’s on everyday I don’t know how people managed without them. I just wish I had room for a tumble drier it’s a nightmare getting it all dry

OutComeTheWolves · 05/02/2018 08:29

The food processor was the first thing that came to mind but realistically it's probably the washing machine and fridge freezer.

BlackNails · 18/02/2018 10:04

Lap top - literally couldn't do my job as a teacher without it, plus we use it for my dyslexic daughter's reading program.
Fridge/freezer - because who wants to shop every day!
Toaster = comfort food!!!

bishop1979 · 18/02/2018 10:31

My freezer! I coped without one for years, but I have no idea how! I batch cook at the weekend so that we have quick and easy dinners when we get home from work/school tired and hungry. I am now thinking of investing in a chest freezer so I can take advantage of offers and store emergency bread and milk

73kittycat73 · 18/02/2018 20:15

It's between my desktop PC, hoover or TV. Hoover I guess I could buy a carpet sweeper, or use a dustpan and brush. TV, well I could watch most of what I wanted on the PC. I can also online shop items and do grocery shopping, plus pay bills. Desktop PC it is then! Grin

summeraupair · 18/02/2018 22:13

Although my phone is practically welded to my hand by now, I've got to say my newly-discovered slow cooker... no idea how I loved without it before!

pinkflump · 19/02/2018 15:50

My coffee machine, definitely! How else would I survive being parent to a toddler and 6 year old Grin

Minnibix · 19/02/2018 16:33

It has to be my fridge/freezer, its something most of us take for granted, but when I first got married we could not afford one, so had to shop almost every day for perishable food and of course no chance for frozen convenience

lynsmagoo · 19/02/2018 19:07

has to be my phone so i can take pictures and cherish them! life goes too fast and memories can be forgotten easy so i need my photographs!! ❤❤

EveryDayIsLikeMonday · 19/02/2018 20:55

I could cope without a phone and straighteners, but can't imagine having to hand-wash clothes or live without a fridge and freezer.

abby12321 · 19/02/2018 21:33

Fridge for sure

Although I’d be lost without my phone and washing machine too!

HattiesPincushion · 23/02/2018 08:39

My washing machine and tumble dryer, given the great number of loads I do every week. I can't even imagine how long or how much energy it would take to do all that washing by hand!
