It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Probably the kettle, I love how quickly I can have a cup of tea or coffee and always boil the kettle to save time boiling water up in the pan!

TheImprobableGirl · 29/12/2017 18:41

I could do without most things... But I love my MacBook almost as much as my DC Grin

Living on a farm and having two sons I would be lost without my automatic washing machine. I remember Mum's old twin tub washer and what a performance wash day was, she only washed on a Monday as it took so long and she had to take up the carpet as the washer always leaked!

Dixiestampsagain · 31/12/2017 10:35

I’d have to say the washing machine. I can’t imagine having to wash everything by hand, ltniigh inteqlly miss the smell of my gran’s really old fashioned twin tub she had in the early 80s!

ScribbleWibble · 31/12/2017 17:51

My coffee machine, two early risers make quick, decent coffee a necessity!

ChasedByBees · 01/01/2018 01:17

Excluding obvious ones like fridge and oven, I'd probably say my phone too. It's my camera, my diary, my way of keeping in touch.

CecilyBlue · 01/01/2018 23:33

My cordless Dyson, I love it more than I love DH and DS!

Cupcakeicecream · 02/01/2018 20:37

I couldn't live without my actifry.everything cooks quickly cuts cooking time down. Barely use the oven or hob so saving alot in gas and electricity th e food tastes lovely and crisp. Well worth then investment.

prakattack · 04/01/2018 14:36

Again, excluding the obvious fridge/oven, it'd ahve to be my phone. Cliched but I'd be lost without it - it's my only way of keeping in touch, it's my diary, my reminder, my alarm clock, my internet....

(Though I'm currently living without a dishwasher and that's pushing me close to the edge I have to admit...!)

amusedbush · 04/01/2018 16:16

My GHD hairdryer! I upgraded from a cheapo one back in March and it's worth every penny. I can finally blow dry my own hair straight with a round brush and it stays that way for days - no straighteners needed!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/01/2018 22:02

Dishwasher. Didn’t have one for 15yrs then had kitchen redone and cupboards moved and space made

I never wash up. I love dw and I used to be a nanny and once I turned down a job that didn’t have a dishwasher 😂😂

IHATEPeppaPig · 04/01/2018 22:31

Blimey, if you'd asked me this question a few years ago it would have definitely been my straighteners and/or phone but now it's a toss up between my fridge freezer (my freezer is currently not working and it's been hell) and the tv, purely to stream Peppa bloody pig for hours on end whilst I drink coffee (ooooh now my kettle is an essential too - this is a hard question).....

Cineraria · 04/01/2018 22:57

Phone, definitely. It would be like trying to live without several key areas of my brain!

ChipsRedWhite · 04/01/2018 23:14

I think mines my washing machine. I could probably manage without my fridge by popping to my (admittedly close and reasonably well stocked) shops daily and just buying what we needed but a week without my washing machine would be a complete pain.

I didn’t have one when I lived elsewhere and still remember the frustration at having to go to the laundrette, the time it took, the organisation needed to get there and the resentment of paying an explicit cost for it. And that was just for me!! Now I have a family I can only imagine my frustration would be increased!!

Candyperfumegirl · 05/01/2018 15:14

Hmm this is a difficult one!! But....my washing machine packed in on boxing day which was a pain because a) I'm skint! B)it was boxing day c) had a load of washing to catch up on. But it was essential so we bought a new one. Was looking at the boxing day offers and I found that the large majority of washing machines discounted could take up to 21 days to deliver! So had to send my partner up to collect one from store and just pay full price Hmm

theAntsareMyFriends · 05/01/2018 21:51

I don't know if I could get it down to one item. My fridge/ freezer is essential and with a baby in cloth nappies my washing machine is a necessity.

My more frivolous choice would be my bread maker. I use it nearly every other day and would miss the smell of fresh bread in the kitchen and getting to eat a slice of warm fresh bread and salty butter. Yum.

EvilDoctorHogmanayDuck · 05/01/2018 21:55

Just one?
Microwave
Smartphone
TV
DVD player
The DC's tablets
Kettle

FuckingHateRats · 06/01/2018 08:49

Gosh, so many. Washing machine and fridge/freezer have revolutionised homes and make life much easier. For communication and work, my laptop and mobile phone for sure.

k2p2k2tog · 06/01/2018 12:27

Washing machine. I remember the days of my mum doing the washing in the twin tub and it was so time consuming. Life's too short!

Onedaylikethi5 · 08/01/2018 20:22

The dishwasher. We only had one fitted a year ago but it has completely changed our lives, I am obsessed with it and take great joy in loading and unloading it. It has a cutlery tray at the top which is the best thing ever!

Aquiver · 08/01/2018 20:28

I could not bear to live without my washing machine or my dishwasher!

Our washing machine is an absolute essential - great, quick programmes and clothes come out beautifully clean.

We have just moved into a new house and, for the first time in my 30-something years, I finally have a dishwasher! Grin I absolutely adore it and am grateful every time I load and unload it. Glasses come out beautiful sparkling, no more "soaking" of baked on food and I'm not elbow-deep in a sink of suds. I wax lyrical so much about it that my MIL even gave me (as a funny joke) a cheeky Christmas stocking filler gift of dishwasher tablets!

Salmonpinkcords · 09/01/2018 18:23

With 3 messy children including a newborn baby I wouldn’t be without my washing machine! Without it I would spend so much time manually washing

Headfullofdreams · 09/01/2018 18:24

Phone or straighteners 🙈

BadlyWrittenPoem · 10/01/2018 19:39

I'd say fridge freezer because it saves so much time and money in terms of cooking and shopping.

FizzySmiles · 11/01/2018 14:08

My coffee machine. Coffee=Survival 😂

Either that or my tumble dryer. These ard probably the two most used electrical items in my house.
