The team behind the new Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay movie, Wonder, would love to know what Mumsnetters think about the trailer for the film - which opens on 1 December.

PLUS...: If you were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the free screenings (held to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th at 300 cinemas across the UK) then please share your movie review below! What did you think of the film? Would you recommend it?

Here's the synopsis: “starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Watch the trailer here:

~ What did you think?
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
~ What looks good about the film?
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Add your review of the trailer (or film if you have seen it) to this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 voucher for the store of choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

A lovely enjoyable family film and I loved how the story unraveled from a child perspective!!!

Jenniferturkington · 15/11/2017 20:23

We saw it at one of the previews on Monday. Ds (10) had loved the book but dd (8) hadn't read it. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed the film. Ds told me his eyes had even 'got a bit wet' at one point!
I liked the casting. Julia Roberts played the role really well and the actress playing Via was excellent.

NineteenForever · 15/11/2017 21:09

My DD13 and I loved the book and were thrilled to get to see a preview this week. I had 'something in my eye' a few times, it was very emotional and as a mum of a child who is not typical (my ds), it was very touching. Ultimately it's the story about being individual, and its told very well with some fun humour to counter the deep subject matter. Go and see it!

georgedawes · 15/11/2017 21:22

~ What did you think?

It looked really good. I thought my DD would like it a lot too.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No, not even heard of it!

~ What looks good about the film?
Different to your usual hollywood fluff!

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
yes

mo3733 · 15/11/2017 21:41

i am excited about this film. i think the cast is a perfect choice and i will be watching it when its released in the first week

sarah861421 · 15/11/2017 21:43

This is a film I want to see, and it looks like good casting. should inspire some good conversations in schools, maybe it would be a good end of term film for English classes or Psychology

mummykate87 · 15/11/2017 21:44

I think it looks lovely, very heart warming with a good moral. I'm not sure I'll be able to get a babysitter for the cinema though!

freefan · 15/11/2017 21:50

Having watched the trailer I will certainly be going along to see it with my older children, it looks very thought provoking and there will be lots of conversations with my two oldest after watching.
I really feel this film will take me through a lot of emotions but will have a very positive ending.... I am going to read the book now.

hibbertheather · 15/11/2017 21:55

I liked the trailer, I love this type of sentimental film so I would love to see it. I haven't read the book, or in fact any books for years! The fact that it looks so deep and emotional looks good and appeals to me. I will watch it but not at the cinema, I'll wait for DVD release, because I hate cinemas! 😂

xcxcsophiexcxc · 15/11/2017 22:14

I'd probably stay away from it because it's too sad, I know this is fiction but there must be those who do have to face a similar reality and it breaks my heart x

glennamy · 15/11/2017 22:15

Only seen the trailer but it looks good... I think once the movie has had it's time in the cinema and used by the movie channels, maybe it could be shown in schools for the appropriate age group as I know it is PG. Anything that helps with the subject matter concerned could be a great help with children in this or any similar position in schools where bullying is a concern.

maryandbuzz1 · 15/11/2017 22:25

This looks like a tear jerker and I will definitely go and see it. I haven’t read the book
I love anything that Julia Roberts is in ....a good cast.

kamaxtra · 15/11/2017 22:38

It looks like a heartwarming movie - I haven't read the book. I think it'll be great to remind people to be open-minded and inclusive.

funkyfreks · 15/11/2017 22:41

~ What did you think? The trailer looks brilliant, very moving.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? No but after seeing the trailer I'd like to.
~ What looks good about the film? It looks like it warms the heart.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? YES

I wanted to share my experience.
We went to Cheltenham Cineworld to see it.
It was a bit of a rush after work but I took the girls to Macdonalds first and then ran over to the cinema.
We got in as the trailers were playing but there were no seats.
Four young people came in after us laden with snacks and a family came in after them.
We all stood awkawardly deciding what to do. Everyone was in good spirits and we were having a bit of a laugh.
The man of the family went to speak to staff and in the meantime the film started so we all sat down on the floor. Dd2 is only six so she sat on a pile of coats so she could see.
The man came back and said that we could stay to watch the film and we would get some free tickets after.
We loved the film, all the floor sitters were lovely and we had a real gigggle.
Dd has had a terrible time with bullies (she's ok now) so got very emotional and one of the young people gave her a hug 😁
We were given our tickets afterwards which I'm very grateful for, the manager was lovely and we all said thanks and told him we were very grateful as it wasn't his mistake really.
On the way home Dd and I agreed that it was an unusual experience but how nice everyone was and that we'd remember this in years to come, how we sat on the floor with strangers to watch a film.

Theimpossiblegirl · 15/11/2017 23:29

Ledkr, what a lovely memory for you all. :)
Everyone at our screening in a small seaside town was in a really nice mood too, it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Mumsnetters, obviously (although I think the tickets were also available through other channels).

daisyduke66 · 15/11/2017 23:39

Very moving indeed. I haven't read the book. The trailer is good and casting excellent. As far as seeing the film I will wait for general release and watch as a family at home.

alibabbaskeggy · 16/11/2017 00:32

it looks like a really good film. Showing strength in the face of adversity and teaching acceptance. A message we could all do good to remember. I will go see this with hubby :-)

TracyKNixon · 16/11/2017 05:04

What did you think?
Wonder looks to be a movie that should be shown to young and old as a life lesson in how to deal with people who appear to be different.

Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No, not yet

What looks good about the film?
It looks like it has a good life lesson to share.

Do you think you’ll go and see it?
Yes!

Elizasmum02 · 16/11/2017 05:51

ive read the book and found it was beautifully written, not ientirely sure if i will see the film but if i do i wont be watching at the cinema

Spices001 · 16/11/2017 06:21

The trailer was thought provoking, we shall definitely be seeing the film, although I’ve not read the book as always do that after the film, otherwise it spoils it
Film looks like it could be emotional with hopefully a happy ending

tallandlong · 16/11/2017 06:23

What did you think? it looked okay
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? i havent
~ What looks good about the film? would have to watch it all first
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? no at the movies, maybe on sky when it comes out

ThemisA · 16/11/2017 07:25

~ What did you think?

It looks like a sentimental film (in the good sense), emotional (take the tissues) and uplifting all in one. Even in the trailer I found myself wondering how I would cope in the same situation. Hopefully it will encourage people to see beyond the physical and to be less obsessed with our appearances.
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
I confess I have not and hadn't even hear of it so it will now be added to my Christmas list
~ What looks good about the film?
See above
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
I will probably wait for the DVD as I rarely have time for the cinema but I would attend a free preview if it was at a cinema near me

vonniebab2 · 16/11/2017 07:29

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?I have not read the book yet

towser44 · 16/11/2017 07:34

I haven’t read the book, but definitely want to see the film having seen the trailer. It will probably be our next date night film, it looks very thought provoking and I love Julia Roberts as an actress!
