The team behind the new Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay movie, Wonder, would love to know what Mumsnetters think about the trailer for the film - which opens on 1 December.

PLUS...: If you were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the free screenings (held to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th at 300 cinemas across the UK) then please share your movie review below! What did you think of the film? Would you recommend it?

Here's the synopsis: “starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Watch the trailer here:

~ What did you think?
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
~ What looks good about the film?
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Add your review of the trailer (or film if you have seen it) to this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 voucher for the store of choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

What did you think? - I've been wondering whether or when this film would come out, and whether the character Auggie would be shown on screen (the book is silent about what exactly is different about him). Of course, the portrayal of Auggie is not how I imagined him! I am so excited to go see it: I think the trailer is good, though it is such a good book that the film has a lot to live up to.

Have you read the book? Yes, and so have all my children. I am amazed that most respondents to this thread have neither read of it, nor heard of it actually, as it has been such a big seller and is such a fantastic book. It touches on such important themes such as kindness and acceptance - it should be read by all! One of those books that I can't decide if it is a children's book for adults, or an adult book for children

What looks good about the film? The story is a fantastic one. I am particularly interested in how the child actors interact with each other and deal with the themes sensitively.

Will you go and see it? Absolutely.

~ What did you think?

WOWWWW WHAT AMAZING OFFER !!!!! To celebrate " World Kindness Day " on November 13th :)

Am sad i didn't get any free ticket to go and watch the film and not even to any close city next to me :(
But surely I'll go when it launches soon.

The trailer looks like its a really good,heart-warming,emotional,true to life film.
And it got one of my preferred actress in it which is Julia Roberts :)

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?

No,i haven't read the book but really want to now as surely its very interesting.

~ What looks good about the film?

Just love it as its a really good film for awareness. As often people are cruel to others by not being educated and kind.
They want us to blend in when we were born to stand out.
Everyone is different and have their own personality.
People's eyes are very critical, especially among children it can be worse and the consequences can ended up very badly.

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Yes can't wait now and will surely bring my pack of tissue along :)

Damn you Mumsnet - just watched this trailer at my desk in work and have a lump in my throat!

What did you think?
Looks like a tearjerker / feelgood movie. I really like Julia Roberts.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No, not heard of it either.

~ What looks good about the film?
Looks like a good story but ultimately probably quite predictable with a happy ending. It's probably a good one for the DC to watch when they're a little older.

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
No just cos we never get out to the cinema unless it's to the latest Disney or Pixar release. But I would watch it when it makes it to Sky Cinema

~ What did you think?
Looks like a really good film, uplifting but with sad moments too

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
I've not even heard of the book, but I will probably read it now that I have

~ What looks good about the film?
Looks like it will bring out a whole range of emotions in the person watching it

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
I will definitely try to, busy in the run up to Christmas though so may have to wait to get it on dvd

~ What did you think?
Lovely, energetic trailer - looks good.
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
Yep. Loved it, lent it to my son who also loved it and stole my copy.
~ What looks good about the film?
Well, it's obviously an emotional story, but this won't be just a tear-jerker - they've clearly cast a child as Auggie who is a really strong actor, plus they have the lovely Julia Roberts, who I respect more and more as I see her recent work. From the trailer I suspect the film will retain the humour of the book and maybe also help spread awareness of facial 'difference'.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
Definitely

~ What did you think?
My first thought was that Auggie looks a lot more normal than I had imagined from reading the book (the book is silent on his actual disfigurement) and the reactions of the people around him were more extreme than I would expect for how normal he looked...
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
I am mid way through reading it as DS2 decided to read it twice while I was reading - I have booked tickets for him to see it as it really spoke to him
~ What looks good about the film?
I like Julia Roberts and thought she looked good as the Mum. I am sure it will make me cry but I think it has some important lessons about appearances and kindness
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
I have managed to get tickets for Monday so will watch it then - thank you!

~ What did you think?
Bit worried it has been 'Disneyfied' but I hope to be proved wrong.
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
Yes, and I love it. It's really cleverly written and well-handled. I think it's essential reading for kids and adults. Helping us to look at a situation from different perspectives, and encouraging empathy.
~ What looks good about the film?
The fact that they are tackling a book about kindness and empathy.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
Yes. And thank you for the free offer.

What did you think?
DCs have read the book and thought that it seemed true to the book (which is very positive based on thier views on the book)

Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
DCs have - they are 13 and 14 now but probably read it around 3 years ago. They (and all their friends) really enjoyed it.

What looks good about the film?
Excellent cast, bit of a weepy but uplifting ultimately

Do you think you’ll go and see it?
DCs both planning to go with friends the weekend it opens

~ What did you think? Love it. Love Owen Wilson and this is a great role for him
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? Yes, DS (9) and I read it together. It's a really good book for adults and kids to read, and it did help teach my kid about empathy
~ What looks good about the film? Hoping it follows the book
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? Definitely. DS is desperate to watch it.

Thank you - I managed to get tickets. My daughter is currently studying this book in English and she was desperate to see the movie. The fact that we got preview seats has given me a good few 'mum points' - so thank you for that (they are a rare and temporary beast...). However I am sure I'm going to lose Mum points at the screening because the trailer alone had me welling up. I sense I may be cry-snotting in the cinema (deduct 5 mum points). I have read (most of) the book - I was reading it chapter by chapter with my elder son and so I didn't always get consecutive nights, so I'm really looking forward to the film. The cast looks fantastic - Jacob Tremblay was incredible in 'Room' and Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson are both safe pairs of hands. Mandy Patinkin can make me laugh and cry with just a twinkle of his eyes. All in all - I can't wait. I think it's going to be a classic.

~ The trailer is really thought-provoking and touching, it made me tear up.

~ My daughter has just started reading it, I promised to take her once she finishes.

~ It doesn't gloss over how mean others can be, and how at times kind people can be mislead/loose direction.

~ Yes for sure

~ What did you think?
Very moving. I love films like this. My kids are a bit young for it, but I can imagine it being a bit of a weepy, but awesome, and cathartic, as he overcomes such struggles.
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No, but I am a reader, so I’ll have to check it out.
~ What looks good about the film?
I like these kinds of morals, overcoming adversity, support and community. Plus, the actors (!).. looks really good, actually and I’m surprised I haven’t come across it already..
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
I would like to, but it is relatively unlikely with two little ones at the moment. Definitely a rental though...!

A very touching trailer that looks like a great film. It really reached out to me - I’ve grown up with multiple disabilities so really know how it feels to be different yet want to blend in. It looks like this film is all about the challenges but also that it’s ok being different. Hope that all came across ok - it’s getting late!

Good actors, seems like an interesting story, heart warming.
I doubt I'll get a chance to see it with young baby at home, but will look out for it when it's realised on DVD/streaming services

I've read the book and highly recommend it. I'm usually a bit wary of seeing film versions of books I loved in case they don't live up to it. However the trailer looks great and there's a good cast. I'll definitely try to see it.
