The team behind the new Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay movie, Wonder, would love to know what Mumsnetters think about the trailer for the film - which opens on 1 December.

PLUS...: If you were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the free screenings (held to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th at 300 cinemas across the UK) then please share your movie review below! What did you think of the film? Would you recommend it?

Here's the synopsis: “starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Watch the trailer here:

~ What did you think?
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
~ What looks good about the film?
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Add your review of the trailer (or film if you have seen it) to this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 voucher for the store of choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Went to see this tonight with a friend and 5 children. We all loved it. I cried 5 times. Came out and told my daughters that they need to try their hardest to always be a Jack or a Summer! They are wearing their ChooseKind badges with pride. Very strong but simple message

Thank you so much

HitsAndMrs · 13/11/2017 22:17

My DH, 2 dc and friend (4,6,6) really enjoyed this film. My dcs have just had anti bullying day at school and this film reinforced this. It seemed thought provoking for them, my DD said she felt sad for this boy as he thought he was ugly but he wasn't. Thank you for the tickets.

DuncanDonut · 13/11/2017 22:20

Took my eight year old to this tonight, and we both loved it. Both cried at the dog, and I welled up at the fight scene. I thought the casting was excellent, and it was very true to the book. DD was highly amused by all the belching.

minceandpotatoes · 13/11/2017 22:22

I also saw the film today and really loved it. Definitely needed the tissues as it made me cry a few times. From the trailer I thought the film was going to be all about Auggie, so it was interesting to also see the other characters' stories. I particularly liked the older sister. And I absolutely loved Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents. Overall it was a great, uplifting, feelgood film. Thank you for the free tickets.

Namethecat · 13/11/2017 22:51

A beautiful film. There was quite a few Yankees being used all around the cinema . We (4 adults) we sat near a family with children who looked around aged 8/10 they looked completely engrossed ,so it definitely suits all ages. Will recommend.

like7 · 14/11/2017 00:00

Thanks mumsnet Saw the film tonight - great and pleased that it reflected the book well Everyone should see... good family viewing with important lessons in it. Feel good film.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 14/11/2017 07:11

What did you think?
Looks a bit of a weepie, although it seems to be well acted. I love Julia Roberts and think she’s very underrated as an actress.
Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No, but I might now.
What looks good about the film?
The acting and the story.
Do you think you’ll go and see it?
Probably not at the cinema as we are very rural but I will look forward to seeing it on dvd or Netflix.

Fabellini · 14/11/2017 08:11

Thank you! Went to see it last night and absolutely loved it. We went with one of my friends too, who had read the book - she felt it was pretty true to the original story, and the way it was told - from the different characters viewpoints.
I'll be recommending it to pretty much everyone.....a little bit more kindness in the world would be no bad thing.

~ What did you think? I saw the trailer previously on Snapchat and was delighted to see that my kids favourite book has been made into a film.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? Yes, and loved it. Also read the spin off books.

~ What looks good about the film? The cast. Seeing characters we grew to love come to life.

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? I was hoping to see the mumsnet preview but wasn't able to make it. We'll definitely try and go and watch it another time.

Clementine11 · 14/11/2017 10:39

hello
looking forward to messaging people . Hope all is well .

MirandaWest · 14/11/2017 11:29

I mentioned this to DD who read Wonder last year at school and she said she really wants to go and see it as she really enjoyed the book. Looking forward to going and seeing it with her

sharond101 · 14/11/2017 12:28

The film was amazing! Really good storyline, fabulous acting and some really positive messages. I sobbed my eyes out and gave the kids the biggest hugs when I got home. I loved the part when Isabel said to Auggie her view mattered most as she knew him most. Have not read the book.

Namethecat · 14/11/2017 14:58

Haha Just re-read my post !!! The word was hankies and not yankees !!!

FoofFighter · 14/11/2017 15:16

Have already commented, but wanted to thank MN for the opportunity to go and see this for free, we went last night and despite not thinking that it'd be any good tbh Blush and that my partner wouldn't enjoy it, we both thought it was fab!

Lots of lumpy moments, could hear a girl behind me sobbing... but very heartwarming, and not tooooo cliched apart from the end

Thanks again :)

HRoosevelt · 14/11/2017 16:13

I passionately loved the books, as did my 2 sons. The trailer worries me that they've made it a bit too schmaltzy feel good happy ending ish, underplaying Auggie's difficulties, but I'll keep an open mind until I've seen it.

misskatamari · 14/11/2017 16:49

~ What did you think? It’s a good trailer. A decent length without feeling like it’s giving too much story away. It looks like a lovely film.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? No, but I would like to now

~ What looks good about the film? It looks heartwarming, funny, emotional, and I’m sure I’d have some weepy moments watching it

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? Probably not at the cinema (childcare is a major cinema hindrance alas), but I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it when it’s out on dvd

jacqui5366 · 14/11/2017 18:07

What did you think?

It reminded me of the film 'Mask' starring Cher - similar story. You could almost predict the story line, boy with deformities shunned by small minded people, then acceptance comes along with admiration and open hearts. Anything with Julia Roberts in is a film I would see.

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?

No, Sorry to say I have not.

~ What looks good about the film?

To show how people prejudge and are scared of anything different, them come to accept. It is a thing we see in every day life when people have disabilities and injuries that make them stand out.

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

to he honest - no simply because I would find it upsetting at first, then predictable. Sorry.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 14/11/2017 21:14

I like the trailer, looks like a good film.

I've not read the book (never heard of it!).

It looks like it might be an emotional roller coaster of a film but hopefully with a happy ending and a good, uplifting message to take away.

I think I might see it - if I can arrange a child free night out!

fivekidsonemum · 14/11/2017 22:00

Oh Wow it looks so much fun as well as heart wrenching! I found myself praying that he'd be accepted as I was watching it. The best part is when he comes across more confident at the end and is enjoying it. I can't wait to watch it & I'm not a big film person but it seems like such a good story. I've not read the books but now I'm going to go look for it Grin

GetKnitted · 14/11/2017 22:13

this looks awesome!

colleenw · 15/11/2017 09:34

Well it was a very sad film (the dog dying sent me over the edge) and a great message to send to the world to be kind! The ending was lovely and I really enjoyed watching it! I do think this should be shown to children in schools, they could maybe learn something!

origamiwarrior · 15/11/2017 13:49

~ What did you think of the trailer? Made me want to watch the film!
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)? I haven't but my DS (9) has. He's also read the follow-up book. He enjoyed them both. Interestingly throughout he said to me "I wish I knew what Auggy actually looked like". He'll now know! I felt it was important for him to read the book.
~ What looks good about the film? I think it will give a good message, and ultimately be an uplifting film.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? Yes, definitely going with DS

lovemyflipflops · 15/11/2017 16:41

~ What did you think?
The trailer looks great, Jack and Summer look like amazing people, and as my children's school has the Princess Diana Anti-bullying award, they were very empathetic to August and what he was going through.when we had a chat about it, as this treatment happens now to people every day . It is a great film which needs to be promoted .

~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?

No, I would not read the book now as I can guess the storyline , but would be on the look out for more from this author.

~ What looks good about the film?

The story line is great, thought provoking and emotional, just up my street,

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Yes I will. Probably on the second week when the cinema will be quieter.

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 15/11/2017 18:20

I took 3 teenage girls (16,16,14). One had already read the book and loved it, and thought the film was very like the book. 3/4 of us cried, sustained weeping rather than sobbing though, the (hard-hearted) non-crier claims not to cry at happy films! I really enjoyed seeing all the young people's stories, especially Via's as my DC2 required a lot of medical intervention in the first 2 years, and I just felt that DC1 probably had that sort of experience, for which I feel guilty every day. It had the typical life-affirming ending, but that's what we were expecting, and what we wanted! I am absolutely blown away by the talent of the whole cast, and will be recommending the film.

TheHobbitMum · 15/11/2017 18:54

Wonder has been my daughters favourite book for years now so when we were lucky enough to get tickets we were so excited! We were absolutely not disappointed, everyone loved every minute and have been recommending the movie since seeing it. Thank you Mumsnet for the opportunity to see
