The team behind the new Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay movie, Wonder, would love to know what Mumsnetters think about the trailer for the film - which opens on 1 December.

PLUS...: If you were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the free screenings (held to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th at 300 cinemas across the UK) then please share your movie review below! What did you think of the film? Would you recommend it?

Here's the synopsis: “starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay and based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Watch the trailer here:

~ What did you think?
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
~ What looks good about the film?
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?

Add your review of the trailer (or film if you have seen it) to this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 voucher for the store of choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Trailer looked good. Haven't read the book, but might do as didn't know there was one until now. Looked uplifting, inspirational and containing good messages. Probably won't see it at cinema as tickets so expensive nowadays but might wait until DVD comes out

Shesawinner1989 · 20/11/2017 20:00

Amazing, touching a must see movie.

scoobyloobyloo · 20/11/2017 20:32

Why the absolute fuckity fuck is it ok in this frigging day to NOT USE AN ACTOR WHO ACTUALLY HAS THE DISABILITY THE WHOLE FECKING FILM IS ACTUALLY ABOUT????

Seriously - no one would DREAM of blacking up, or allowing a man to play a woman.

I thought this film looked incredible until I realised that at the very heart of it they were perpetuating the stereotypes they were claiming to be busting.

Instead of spending time finding a young male actor who has Treacher Collins they plucked a pretty boy actor with a few awards under his belt to mock up a disability. Bunch of cowards.

FFS.

Very moving trailer and I will have to see this film not read the book but film looks a good watch

claza93 · 20/11/2017 20:51

Very moving! Looking forward to seeing it with the girls... will remember my tissues!

Quadratilla · 20/11/2017 23:37

Went to see the film on the 13th with the fee World Kindness Day tickets. We were predisposed to like it because the children (16, 14 and 10) have all read the book and loved it. That and the tickets were free and we can't usually afford to go to the cinema Grin.
I thought I would cry all the way through, but didn't (although husband shed a tear or two). Great casting - good to see Julia Roberts in a mumsy role and hadn't seen Owen Wilson in anything before (although one of my daughters went in hating him and ended up loving him). It was a feelgood movie, but I felt it dealt with the issues fairly well and should probably be compulsory viewing for pre-teens. Interesting relationship between the two girls and also between the siblings - addressing that issue of when one sibling has some kind of life-changing condition.
Have already recommended it to friends and will probably buy the DVD for 16 year old who couldn't come because she had too much homework. Special thanks to the organisers of the free showings - they don't usually come to my small town. There's something special about seeing a film in a cinema rather than on TV.

Wow I've not heard of the book or the film until now.
I just watched the trailer and it made me sad, mad and then happy.
I will definitely be going to see this film.

Having watched the trailer, I found the storyline quite moving, though very 'American' in the language used.

The movie explores the diversity of children - the cruelty and and kindness, and a young boy's way of coping with all the problems that not quite fitting in can bring. Having a facial disfigurement and being different causes huge problems for Auggie, but he is supported by his loving parents, who are given credibility by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.

I haven't read the book though I think the movie sends a message about the upset caused by bullying and says that it's alright to be different. A message that I thoroughly agree with. We don't all have to be the same.

I would love to watch the movie, but will wait till it's available on TV.

cathyov · 21/11/2017 10:16

I have not read the book but the trailer makes me want to and see the film too. Looks like a bit of a tear jerker but we always like triumph over adversity and anything that highlights accepting differences is good. Love Julia Roberts and the child star in the short trailer looks good too. A lot to recommend.

snare · 21/11/2017 10:27

bcd2009 · 21/11/2017 13:24

Awww, I can't wait to see the film, I've read the book a couple years back and now watching the trailer I'm so pleased they got an excellent cast. What a great way to teach children about diversity! Need to take tissues, lots! :)

zebedee01 · 21/11/2017 15:05

It looks a brilliant film from the trailer, it gave me goosebumps!
I would love to go see it, and my 12 year old son has read the book too so maybe he would like to see it too!
Two brilliant actors there aswell :)

Jocelynne123 · 21/11/2017 17:18

~ What did you think? - I think that the trailer looks good but it looks like it will be an emotional film.
~ Have you read the book - no I haven't, to be honest I hadn't heard of the book or film before now
~ What looks good about the film - I like that JULIA Roberts is in it, she is a brilliant actress. It also deals with serious issues and all though emotional I would hope it will be uplifting.
~ Do you think you’ll go and see it? - I think I will wait until it is out on dvd. The cinema is very expensive for a family xx

Snog · 21/11/2017 17:24

This was such a heart warming feel good film and I would definitely recommend it. I saw a preview with 3 of my friends and we all loved it.
Strange though that they didn’t choose an actor with a facial disfigurement to play August. Strange too that there were no characters with any visible disability in the film.
Also they kill a dog which is a cheap trick.

katieskatie82 · 21/11/2017 17:47

would defiantly go to watch the movie. The trailer looks very good. Looks like a lovely, heart warming film x

noynoyavery · 21/11/2017 18:15

What did you think?
Possibly based on a true story , kids are not always as cruel as people think
~ Have you read the book (it’s based on the book by R.J. Palacio)?
No But I think I will
~ What looks good about the film?
looks like a feel good about humanity film

~ Do you think you’ll go and see it?
For sure! Although probobly cry a lot!

RumTiTum · 21/11/2017 18:21

I've read the book both to myself and then to Dd1 (10) when it first came out, we both loved it. A well written emotional roller coaster with an important message about acceptance, kindness, empathy and strength.
The trailer shows the film sticks closely to the book narrative and the acting is great. I will definitely be going to see it with my DC.

Rae1000 · 21/11/2017 19:45

Been lucky enough to go and see it as a preview. To be honest not the sort of film I would think I really have to go and see. HOWEVER it was good. It was a tear jerker, it was also funny in parts too. I liked the fact that the story was told by different viewpoints too. I would recommend it. Probably best with friends rather than husbands!

piggypoo · 21/11/2017 20:35

I tend to be put-off by over-sentimental films like this and found the trailer very syrupy.
I have not read the book and do want to, I often prefer the books to the films to be honest!
I think the film will be really weepy and the other half would not want to see this at all.
I will not be going to see this one at the cinema, Julia Roberts was never one of my favourite actors anyway.

PhilTB54 · 21/11/2017 20:53

Moved by the trailer albeit it's like the Cher movie along the same topic.
Not read the book. Not a big reader.
Film looks viewable and free tickets would help.

Minnibix · 21/11/2017 21:01

The trailer looks very good, and with such good actors it should be a winner. It looks like a very thought provoking film, just hope it has a feel good ending and not a weepy

cluckyhen · 21/11/2017 21:04

I didn't realise it was a book!! I'm mixed about the trailer - I think it is a film I would have to be in the mood to see (I'm terrible for sleeping through films) but I do think JR does cracking films as a rule
