Now that the nights are drawing in, and with half term around the corner, movie nights can be a great way to spend some quality time with your family and enjoy the warm indoors. To celebrate their new collection of Animated movies, Sky Cinema would like to hear about your family’s favourite animation films, both new and old.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “This October, Sky Cinema has put together our biggest ever collection of animated movies to brighten up your Autumn. The collection includes a wide range of animated movies, from the latest hits such as Sing and Kubo and the Two Strings to Disney-Pixar movies like The Incredibles or the Ice Age movies. All available to watch whenever you want on demand.”

Has a recent release, such as Secret Life of Pets or Trolls, become a firm favourite? Or, do you love the nostalgia of passing on a classic like Fantasia? Whether your family prefer the new ones or the classics, or both, Sky Cinema would like to hear about your favourite animation films - and why they manage to make it onto the list.

All who post below about their family’s favourite animation films will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

All Disney absolutely loved in our home. Old ones including The Lion King and Finding Memo then / straight through to Moana and Trolls. Perfect family films when we all sit on settee watching pure Disney Magic.

foxessocks · 06/10/2017 15:36

My favourite is despicable me!

Lindsaym1983 · 06/10/2017 15:39

The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan are firm favourites in our household (for both adults and children)

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 06/10/2017 15:47

There are so many great animated films out there nowaday - I feel very lucky to be a parent and have a cast iron excuse to go and see the good ones.

Our family’s favourite is The Pirates In An Adventure With Scientists. Favourite for Christmas is Arthur Christmas. My personal favourite Disney movie is Tangled. The one I haven’t seen yet but am looking forward to catching is Moana - DD is a huge fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda who wrote the music.

LOLerskates · 06/10/2017 15:48

My Neighbour Totoro is popular at our house- cute and strange, a winning combo! DD also really liked Captain Underpants. For the high brow wit obvs :D

My favourites have to beauty & beast, Hercules & Aladdin! I still have the original vhs tapes somewhere 😩😍

I have collected all the DVDs for my son for when he is a bit older! Nothing and I mean nothing beats the feel good feeling of watching a Disney film! 😍😍

I’m lucky my partner shares my love for Disney, we watched all of the above films on our first date and recently took a trip to Disneyland Paris....

Disney fanatic for life ❤️

Our favourite is the Jungle Book as we love the songs and of course the film!

MoronsandNeurons · 06/10/2017 16:03

My daughters current favourite is Mulan. It’s funny as I never watched it as a child but she loves it. I think it’s a winner because she’s a ‘cool’ princess, not just pretty but does the same as the men and helps her Dad. My daughter loves Trolls too, she loves the songs and I think she finds how colourful it is appealing.
My favourite is Sleeping Beauty. I love how at the beginning it’s told like a story and how despite being unaware she is a princess at the beginning is still so fabulous. The nostalgia is immense.
My husbands favourite is Toy Story. He loves it because of the nostalgia of loving it as a child but it’s also a timeless choice that still appeals.
I think overall the key to a good animated movie in addition to the story is a good soundtrack. Sometimes even when the animation isn’t as advanced films become favourites because of this.

Summergarden · 06/10/2017 16:12

I love Tangled. DD loves Moana and Ballerina. DS adores Cinderella- the vintage one!

theresamustgo · 06/10/2017 16:19

More than anything we love Studio Ghibli films and have watched them all many times. Spirited Away is the favourite of all. We watch lots of animation. Not so keen on the 3D vogue, and still enjoy old Disney or even 1930s Popeye

Our family has a movie night every week even though our eldest two are now teenagers and the youngest is 8. Animated films are always a safe bet to entertain the whole family and we have seen all the older films (Fantasia, The Lion King, Snow White etc) right up to the newest releases. There are a few films that have been watched several times, Hercules, My Neighbour Totoro, Sing, Monsters Inc, Toy Story, Moana and How to Train Your Dragon are firm favourites. There is nothing better than sitting down with the whole family to watch a movie, it's something that I hope we can continue for many years to come

Candyperfumegirl · 06/10/2017 16:29

Toy story fan here!

minceandpotatoes · 06/10/2017 16:33

I like so many animated films - both old and new. Two that I enjoyed more than I expected to were Tarzan and Brother Bear. I really loved both and found them incredibly moving. I love how an animated film can entertain by making you laugh and cry.

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 06/10/2017 16:48

The (old)jungle book every single time brilliant music and lots of singing along for all ages total classic.

mummothermummy · 06/10/2017 16:56

Moana, Moana, Moana. We queued for 2 1/2 hrs at Disney to meet Moana... my daughters are 15 and 18 yrs old! The David Bowie style Shiny song is a triumph. And the Making Of is even better. So much effort was put into making it fit well with their cultural values and aesthetic. Cool female body image and lots of girl power without any negatives about the boys. Awesome.

carz1985 · 06/10/2017 16:57

My favourite is beauty and the beast and nightmare before Christmas. My 2 daughters and son at minute love moana, Trolls, boss baby, sing and mulan. We are huge Disney fans in this house

thismeansnothing · 06/10/2017 17:15

Both myself and DD like 101 Dalmations. I love that older style of Disney film and dd loves the cute puppies. We've also got into ghibli. DD loves totoro, arietty and kikis delivery service. They are all so calming and I love that it's not manic break out into song and dance like most Disney films. I also like that they have strong female leads who can and will achieve anything they want to.

barricade · 06/10/2017 17:32

'The Incredibles' and 'Finding Nemo' are probably the current most loved out of the multitude of excellent Disney/Pixar animations. However, a favourite recent masterpiece is 'Kubo & The Two Strings' - highly recommended. The factor linking the above is great characters and fantastic storytelling, combined with eye-popping Glitterball visuals Glitterball and truly cutting edge animation.

KarenCBC · 06/10/2017 17:34

So many of the old Disney one but I get the real nostalgia feels when the whistling starts on Robin Hood. Also, not Disney, but Land Before Time was the first cinema trip I remember clearly. I watched it again and again back in the day Smile

Babe · 06/10/2017 17:47

Spirited Away. It is a beautifully animated, completely bonkers film that we have watched over and over and I still see new things in it.

starlight36 · 06/10/2017 18:11

Trolls is a big favourite with both. Brave for DD and Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs for DS. He can quote whole chunks of it.
I get quite nostalgic watching the old-school Disney films as when I was little we either saw them once at the cinema or on the Disney clips shows that used to be on TV every Bank Holiday. Jungle Book is probably my favourite.

peronel · 06/10/2017 18:49

Pirates, Arthur Christmas, Sean the Sheep and anything else by Nick Park. Children of varied ages and we all love them!

CharliesMouse · 06/10/2017 18:53

We were all, as a family, captivated by Coraline when we first saw it in 3D at the cinema and often all end up watching (and enjoying) it again when it's shown in good old 2D on the TV. In the same way we all end up watching any of the Toy Story films whenever they are shown. They are all masterpieces with something for children and adults alike.

Onceuponatartanshoelace · 06/10/2017 18:54

Wall E or Up :)

Keeccles · 06/10/2017 18:54

I love Disney's Robin Hood. Plus Toy Story and Cars always go down well here. At the moment the kids are watching Sing. Also
recently enjoyed Trolls and Moana :)
