Technology has not only become such a big part of our lives, but it’s also evolving at a rapid rate, meaning that we can often feel that our computers and laptops aren’t keeping up with the needs of our families. Whether you and your family need a laptop just to browse the web and keep in touch with friends or you have creative needs that need to be met, Intel would like to hear about what you’d look for when purchasing a new PC or laptop for your family.

Here’s what Intel have to say: “If your computer is more than a handful of years old, you’re missing more than you know! Today’s Modern PCs are more powerful, lighter and have a longer battery life. But with so many different options available how do you know which one to choose for your family? Whether your children are school aged or studying at college or university there is some great video advice on how to choose here.

A new thin and light laptop with an Intel® Pentium® processor is perfect for homework, watching video clips and streaming movies from a service like Netflix*. However, if your child is more creative and likes to edit video or create music then they will appreciate the extra performance from an Intel® Core™ processor.

Computers with the latest Intel® Core™ processor inside are more amazing than ever. They have the fast performance to switch between multiple applications simultaneously and stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals. The long battery life is perfect to keep children happy when travelling. Some now have screens that flip over to stand like a tent – which is great for watching movies. Plus, there are new ways to interact with your computer, including voice and touch control and Windows Hello allows uses facial recognition for hassle-free log-ins. With a range of smart, stylish designs and screen sizes, there’s an Intel®-powered laptop at Argos to fit any budget.”

Do you have a resident gamer who needs the software to be fast? Perhaps you look for a long battery life to ensure your children can watch a full movie without needing a charger? Or maybe your family has a creative flare, so you look for a laptop and/or PC with extra performance to edit video, create music and or just manage lots of photographs?

Whatever your family would be able to do with a new PC and/or laptop, share this on the thread below. All MNers who comment on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky MNer will win a £300 Argos voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My daughter is currently learning french. She would use it to download and use Rosetta Stone. I think that it would really help her.
I would use it for my dog grooming business. I do everything on paper and would love to have a customer database etc xx

It's a case of 'every home should have one'. Our old and outdated tablets are very limited when it comes to doing serious productive things like homework and coursework, and a modern lightweight laptop takes up less space than a desktop, but can still be used for producing school, college and University work necessary for the coming year. So a big improvement in our lives all round definitely.

baconbap · 21/09/2017 21:27

Use it downstairs in a warm room

Gwencooper81 · 21/09/2017 21:33

We don't have a laptop. My two children want one for Xmas.
It would mean.. less fighting over the old PC!. It would be used for homework and gaming.. and I'd maybe get a look in for some MNing!

We use our one family lap top as computer and TV, so having another one would open up endless possibilities. My son is visually impaired, so something he could easily interact with would be great. We'd like to get a projector, so we could watch movies and TV really big and he can feel completely included.

tanyavt · 21/09/2017 22:11

It would mean the kids could do their homework/surfing without stealing the family computer to do so.. and I could keep an eye on them in the kitchen too!

Gill81uk · 21/09/2017 22:14

My son and daughter are minecraft obsessed so would love to use it for that. I mainly surf the internet with lots of tabs open, so need it to be nice and quick for that. We also need to be able to use the children's school programmes.

PhilTB54 · 21/09/2017 22:25

I'd use it to run my hopefully soon new job; going self employed,

JayJay1874 · 21/09/2017 22:35

Well with new baby on the way it would be a great way to store and share photos with friends and family. Skyping grans to keep them involved when they can't get round to visit, and it'd be useful for getting on MN of course!

Flickabella36 · 21/09/2017 22:37

I think it would be brilliant for homework now I have 2 children at secondary school! 😀

liz1970 · 21/09/2017 22:39

Could do with a new laptop as mine is running slow, so a new one would be great for storing my pics and keeping in touch with family on social media

robyn297 · 21/09/2017 23:19

Our current laptop is on its last legs, we all use it for different things, I'm a blogger, so have lots of photos and videos on it, my husband enjoys DIY videos on Youtube and the kids love educational games.

clarabella12 · 21/09/2017 23:33

there's so much we could do, with three kids, there's projects at school constantly needing researched, looking up sites to print things off, coding websites and watching a film would be wonderful.

lilyblu · 22/09/2017 00:12

Our laptop is on its last legs, our family all use it and it is so slow it takes ages to get anything done. A shiny new laptop would help kids with their projects and homework for school, I would be able to shop online, browse without constant pauses and use spreadsheets for family stuff. We just don't have the cash to replace our laptop at the moment.

ginsterloo · 22/09/2017 00:45

With a family of 3 kids who have different interests from coding to minecraft and plenty of youtube watching, a new laptop would be ideal so we dont have squabbles and fights over whose turn it is next!

cluckyhen · 22/09/2017 00:46

oohh this would help my dd so much with her homework...and me with my music!

tubbyj · 22/09/2017 01:00

Current 2nd laptop is basic and has my son vets older and wants to do more tban sirf and watch videos it's limitations will become sll too apparent

upthehammers · 22/09/2017 01:27

my current laptop is about a century old (feels it!) and will only turn on once every 10 or more times i try- tedious!
My children would love to use it for gaming and watching films on netflix, i tend to use it for photo editing, video editing, blogging and general things.

lottiegirl · 22/09/2017 03:33

a laptop would be great for the family , i'd store and organise our photots on it removeing them especially from my phone, hubby would do work reports on it to work from home a bit more and sons could use it for researching for school projects in realitity they would play games and stream music!

cathryn1 · 22/09/2017 07:20

my laptop is getting on a bit now but still in working order, my little princess is so keen to get on the computer she is 3 she probably would be able to use it better than me soon but so worried about the damage she might do to my laptop

myboycraig · 22/09/2017 08:13

My son uses his laptop to watch other kids play games on youtube lol so needs fast uninterrupted feed.

I use mine for university work and entering competitions. I need speed

snare · 22/09/2017 08:18

my kids now do more of their homework online

greensmith68 · 22/09/2017 08:19

my son's just started collage and at the moment he uses his phone for the internet but i could really do with a laptop to save him having to stay late at collage to do his work

BreconBeBuggered · 22/09/2017 12:44

I could really do with one for my role as a school governor. Soooo many papers, it's real not eco-friendly to print them all out for meetings.

hutchina1986 · 22/09/2017 12:54

My partner is due to start another degree next year and he really needs a new laptop for it for his essays. His current one is very bulky so not easy to carry about to uni, but it would be perfect to pass on to our eldest for her to use for her homework.
