Technology has not only become such a big part of our lives, but it’s also evolving at a rapid rate, meaning that we can often feel that our computers and laptops aren’t keeping up with the needs of our families. Whether you and your family need a laptop just to browse the web and keep in touch with friends or you have creative needs that need to be met, Intel would like to hear about what you’d look for when purchasing a new PC or laptop for your family.

Here’s what Intel have to say: “If your computer is more than a handful of years old, you’re missing more than you know! Today’s Modern PCs are more powerful, lighter and have a longer battery life. But with so many different options available how do you know which one to choose for your family? Whether your children are school aged or studying at college or university there is some great video advice on how to choose here.

A new thin and light laptop with an Intel® Pentium® processor is perfect for homework, watching video clips and streaming movies from a service like Netflix*. However, if your child is more creative and likes to edit video or create music then they will appreciate the extra performance from an Intel® Core™ processor.

Computers with the latest Intel® Core™ processor inside are more amazing than ever. They have the fast performance to switch between multiple applications simultaneously and stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals. The long battery life is perfect to keep children happy when travelling. Some now have screens that flip over to stand like a tent – which is great for watching movies. Plus, there are new ways to interact with your computer, including voice and touch control and Windows Hello allows uses facial recognition for hassle-free log-ins. With a range of smart, stylish designs and screen sizes, there’s an Intel®-powered laptop at Argos to fit any budget.”

Do you have a resident gamer who needs the software to be fast? Perhaps you look for a long battery life to ensure your children can watch a full movie without needing a charger? Or maybe your family has a creative flare, so you look for a laptop and/or PC with extra performance to edit video, create music and or just manage lots of photographs?

Whatever your family would be able to do with a new PC and/or laptop, share this on the thread below. All MNers who comment on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky MNer will win a £300 Argos voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

I love to film and edit family videos for my baby boy to watch in years to come and a decent laptop would help so much with that

TiggersAngel7774 · 20/09/2017 03:47

My son has autism and adhd so adores all things technical we bought him a gaming pc for last Christmas as he wanted to learn coding. But my PC is now almost 10 years old so frustrating trying to do homework on it with him as its in corner of living room so I can supervise whilst I check on dinner.
New PC for me is our next big buy

wef1984 · 20/09/2017 10:51

My DS spends hours on his computer playing games and although it's only a couple of years old technology soon moves on and he could do with something quicker to keep up.

We are looking to move overseas so are packing up and de-cluttering our home. Our 2 boys are slowly getting used to the idea that they can't take much with them. A new laptop would help with existing homework, researching their new place to live and keep in touch with family and friends.

francislee1976 · 20/09/2017 11:44

A new laptop in our home would mean other TV programmes could be watched when there is a conflict on what to watch. which is most of the time

Alexandra87 · 20/09/2017 12:03

I would be able to work from home again without having to cart the work laptop backwards and forwards. My children could do their homework and research for school

lolly2011 · 20/09/2017 12:38

My son would do his homework, probably play Spore and I would use it to enter competitions and work on.

We've had two laptops break on us in the past 6months - thanks to the kids downloading stupid games! A new laptop would mean me and my husband could work from home more often, meaning more time with the family. The older kids would only be allowed to use for homework only! And I could give my old iPad to my youngest son to play his educational games and videos more often as I wouldn't need to use it for work anymore.

My daughter is looking to start her own Instagram make up page so this would be a god send.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/09/2017 13:21

Have time to finish writing my book instead of having to wait until dd has finished Netflixing (and she says a new laptop would be great because then she wouldn't lose her rag with the endless sticking of the pages on this old thing!)

KJ1986UK · 20/09/2017 14:20

My son really enjoys watching prankster videos on Youtube and wants to start doing his own so this would come in very useful for that.

Summergarden · 20/09/2017 16:04

I'd love a new laptop with plenty of storage space to organise all of our photos.

TreacleFarl · 20/09/2017 16:43

I'm going back to university in the hope of providing a better life for me and my young son. I'm (naively) shocked at how absolutely everything is online now. It would mean I could spend more time at home with him while doing my work rather than having to go to work and then stay long hours at university just to use computers. I could also take it to university with me as it's thin and light.

Hunkle · 20/09/2017 16:48

My DD & I would need to learn how to use one.

She has just started school, so its the perfect time for us both.

We have an old Tesco Hudl which we never bother using, we have over 1000 baby photos sitting on an old unused Iphone to transfer and finally get made into prints/canvas.

A laptop would mean we could be up to date with the world Grin

veroinuk · 20/09/2017 17:24

I new laptop would be great for my daughter. She is dyslexic and she would be able to have all the software she needs.

Signoritawhocansway · 20/09/2017 20:45

We have a laptop which is over 12 years old, and is dying. We would use a new one for home education projects, gaming and administrating our busy lives!

confusedofengland · 20/09/2017 22:06

My DH would use it to look for a job & work on the kids' book he is writing (for our sons).

The DSes would also use it for educational games, especially DS2 who is 6 & has suspected ASD, he has struggled hugely in school until now, but everything has just started to click & he loves nothing more than to learn! I think he would catch up quickly if he could practice in a fun way Smile

chrisstreet · 20/09/2017 22:49

I love strategy games on the pic so it would be great to introduce my son to them - they are not quite the same on the Xbox

allibaby · 21/09/2017 05:49

I don't know much about laptops and computers at all but my son is a gamer and often gives up because he says the computer is too slow.

claza93 · 21/09/2017 06:41

A new laptop would be great! Our one is so slow! My daughters homework is increasing now and this would make life a lot easier

MAT12 · 21/09/2017 07:47

It would be great for my younger kids to share, my eldest is at uni and has his own but my younger two now have home work given and it has to be completed on the internet, using sites like mathletics , ict games etc. They have a ipad they share but a laptop would mean they could both complete their homework at the same time without arguing about whose turn it is to go first or the time they are taking. At the moment my eldest ends up letting one of them use his so he would also appreciate another laptop being in the house

NowtAbout · 21/09/2017 08:06

We have four kids, three of whom use the pc for school. DH and I both use it for work. Being able to have a laptop and run away and hide the rest the family to do homework/work/present buying et cetera would be amazing

Snapespeare · 21/09/2017 08:41

My son has just started an access to he course at the local college after spectacularly getting Es in his A levels. he wants to do computer game design as he lives in games. His aspergers/ADHD means he creates complex little worlds he wants to live in. His learning needs assesment focuses on a laptop for class participation as he finds it easier to concentrate on a screen than a notebook. He has a gaming pc he saved xmas & birthdaymoney etc for and a clunky laptop he can borrow for college, but the processor speed doesn't really zing along for gaming purposes. This would make a big difference for him. :-)

jazzitup · 21/09/2017 09:38

A new laptop would just be fantastic for my 13 year old daughter for her studies.
Thank you for the chance to win and good luck to all.
