Technology has not only become such a big part of our lives, but it’s also evolving at a rapid rate, meaning that we can often feel that our computers and laptops aren’t keeping up with the needs of our families. Whether you and your family need a laptop just to browse the web and keep in touch with friends or you have creative needs that need to be met, Intel would like to hear about what you’d look for when purchasing a new PC or laptop for your family.

Here’s what Intel have to say: “If your computer is more than a handful of years old, you’re missing more than you know! Today’s Modern PCs are more powerful, lighter and have a longer battery life. But with so many different options available how do you know which one to choose for your family? Whether your children are school aged or studying at college or university there is some great video advice on how to choose here.

A new thin and light laptop with an Intel® Pentium® processor is perfect for homework, watching video clips and streaming movies from a service like Netflix*. However, if your child is more creative and likes to edit video or create music then they will appreciate the extra performance from an Intel® Core™ processor.

Computers with the latest Intel® Core™ processor inside are more amazing than ever. They have the fast performance to switch between multiple applications simultaneously and stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals. The long battery life is perfect to keep children happy when travelling. Some now have screens that flip over to stand like a tent – which is great for watching movies. Plus, there are new ways to interact with your computer, including voice and touch control and Windows Hello allows uses facial recognition for hassle-free log-ins. With a range of smart, stylish designs and screen sizes, there’s an Intel®-powered laptop at Argos to fit any budget.”

Do you have a resident gamer who needs the software to be fast? Perhaps you look for a long battery life to ensure your children can watch a full movie without needing a charger? Or maybe your family has a creative flare, so you look for a laptop and/or PC with extra performance to edit video, create music and or just manage lots of photographs?

Whatever your family would be able to do with a new PC and/or laptop, share this on the thread below. All MNers who comment on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky MNer will win a £300 Argos voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My son uses my laptop for his homework so it would be lovely for him to have his own

katieskatie82 · 21/09/2017 11:10

my son is now 8 years old and alot of his homework now has to be completed on a laptop so a new laptop would be great for that!

Loftzilla · 21/09/2017 11:43

I would love a laptop because as well as having all the functionality of a PC, it is portable! And I like the keyboard to get to grips with serious typing and texting etc. unlike the finger picking tablet! Plus plenty of storage for images and speed for watching movies and catch up TV.

mummyto2boys01 · 21/09/2017 12:05

My boy would love a laptop to have fun on and use to revise topics he's learning about in school. Google would probably be the first website he'd go on as he loves finding out facts and information about various things! :)

Staying in touch has never been easier within this digital age. Grandparents can be there for reading time, to chat before bed - and even to keep in touch with big sister who is at University. This week Uncle Jon contacted us live from Mexico! We could see the beach behind him. Amazing stuff.. so definitely to be closer together - wherever we are!

My daughter is just beginning year 11 and is working hard towards her GCSEs with the aim of doing A-Levels, then moving on to do nursing at university. She would find it invaluable for her studies.

My 12 year old is the main contributor on a family blog on cooking & baking so is constantly on the laptop updating. She is also looking at making video's to put on the blog so needs to be able to edit the video's & photo's as well.

I would love to be able to keep all our family photos and videos safely on a laptop, ours is so old so I'm worried about it breaking and loosing all our precious memories. I would also like to create a DVD of home movies from all the small videos we take.

howling · 21/09/2017 14:12

my daughter would use a laptop for social media and my son would watch movies and listen to music. I would use it to Skype my family in Australia and my husband would use it for work.

Caselgarcia · 21/09/2017 14:13

My daughter has chosen creative media to study at GCSE, she loves photography and would love her own computer to edit some of her work.

sofieellis · 21/09/2017 14:38

My son has just started 6th form, so a new laptop would be perfect for his homework.

cookie09 · 21/09/2017 14:50

I have twins who have just gone into year 9 one of which has learning difficulties. He is very on ball with technology however not so good academically and with the written kind of work. A laptop would be fantastic to help my son with his media and computing course GCSE at home and on the go. Also with the fun side of it he can play games and go on YouTube in his free time to wind down.

alison991 · 21/09/2017 15:40

We need a computer for everything, homework, blogging, gaming, so it needs to be really powerful and able to do everything. Our current one is really slow and old

zoold · 21/09/2017 15:46

A new laptop would replace the one I've had for 8yrs which is very slow now.

ellie17 · 21/09/2017 16:52

the laptop is used lots in our house from photos, email, social networking and word documents as well as apps for games so we need something fast with a good battery life.

Brandypie · 21/09/2017 17:18

We would look for something speedy, no slow start up or lagging on switching between programs. Good graphics for movie streaming, Photoshop use, gaming. A decent amount of storage (for photos/videos mainly). Wireless capabilities. Nice, light design would be nice too.

BonjourMeDarlin · 21/09/2017 17:36

My laptop is older than me and I am really old
I have two teenagers and a nearly teenager and myself who argue over the laptop. The only positive is it weighs a lot so grabbing it and running off is not possible Grin.

KungFuCactus · 21/09/2017 18:34

I'd use the laptop to make animated films with my daughter to teach her the basics of editing and share my passion for moving images.

ha2el · 21/09/2017 18:37

My husband stores lots of files for work, music and podcasts on his laptop for when he is away at sea for 4 months at a time. Good memory storage and speed to deal with everything is ideal and less of a frustration.

svalentine60 · 21/09/2017 18:48

My son makes his own music. he plays guitar and piano and sings. He records it all as he's doing it and needs good equipment and steady internet speed for uploading to youtube

joannecc · 21/09/2017 19:10

My daughter has just started a computer science college course which she is thoroughly enjoying, she has an old laptop at the moment which is really temperamental so she could really do with something a little more reliable for her college course. I know her current one is on its last legs but she's just managing the best she can!

lori6290 · 21/09/2017 19:47

I would love to have a laptop for my son! It would help with his school work immensely. He absolutely loves maths (strange child :P) so much, he gets me to print out work sheets and questions at work to bring home to him! :) He's also getting into computer games, he has an xbox but he really wants to try minecraft for the pc! I'd also love to pinch it as online shopping on my small phone screen is a pain in the bum :P

Santress · 21/09/2017 20:27

If I had a new quicker laptop I would be able to work from home and spend less time travelling and more time with my family 😊

Emmamaryd · 21/09/2017 20:55

Lots of surfing the net, emails and other social media. A long battery life would defo help with that.

Smellophant87 · 21/09/2017 21:14

My partner needs to complete his distance learning course - a new laptop would definitely help!
