The summer holidays are finally here and many parents are soon to find out where their DCs may be heading off to university. For teenagers and parents alike, this can be very daunting time. However, it’s also a time some parents may have secretly longed for…freedom is on the horizon!

Endsleigh, a UK provider of student insurance, wants to hear from you as parents about what you’ll be enjoying again, and what plans you’ve made once your DDs and DSs fly the nest.

Here’s what Endsleigh had to say: “Leaving for university doesn’t only affect students, but their parents too. We pride ourselves on understanding students’ needs as they prepare for university, and throughout their university careers. With over 50 years’ experience, Endsleigh is the No. 1 student insurance provider and the only one recommended by NUS.

Our cover protects gadgets, watches, contents, bikes, musical instruments and even tuition fees (if the student has to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances) under one policy—giving students the flexibility to protect the things that matter to them (and you) the most. Endsleigh gives you peace of mind.”

Planning on seeing the world, or moving abroad? Ready to give up washing the sports kit? Converting newly-vacated bedrooms into an office? Or perhaps you just can’t wait to have full control of the tv again!

Whatever you are planning/longing to do when your DCs move into the big wide world of university life, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

God yeah I forgot that one, it'll be like a Christmas present Grin

cwalliss82 · 05/08/2017 07:19

We are a very long way off that at the moment but, if they choose to go to university, I look forward to seeing them achieve their goals and work towards life as a proper grown-up.

Rosehips · 05/08/2017 08:06

It'll be a while for us but I'm looking to hearing about all the fun of uni from my clean comfortable home

thesockgap · 05/08/2017 12:14

My eldest goes into Y13 in September so he's just at the "looking at universities" stage. However although we will definitely miss him when he goes, I am already looking forward to a little more peace. he's very argumentative (his dad says he'd cause murder in an empty house!) my other two kids are more chilled so I think our household will be quieter and calmer!

daniel1996 · 05/08/2017 12:57

I am keeping his bedroom for him, but looking forward the reduced laundry pile, shopping bills, and not having to pick the damp towels off the floor. But when he comes home at the end of term, I will be over the moon to have him under my roof again, safe and warm. I would be a proud proud mum, to see my DC spreading his wings, my job as a mum has been so worth it.

Looking forward to not having to share my artisan gin anymore, or rather not seeing complete bottles disappear back to uni

Carriemac · 05/08/2017 17:09

I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet when my twins go this September , and to visit them at university
. I'll miss them so much though.

giddyypixie · 05/08/2017 17:12

Travelling the world...Weekend city breaks whenever we fancy! Of course, I love my DC to bits but oh, those child free days are the stuff of dreams SmileSmile

allsorts4444 · 05/08/2017 17:30

Them learning independence and having a fantastic time. Oh and not having to share my chocolate ;)

HattietheManatee · 05/08/2017 18:51

Looking forward to DD1 getting the independence she craves, and getting to dedicate herself to a subject she loves. Making new friends will be great for her too. I'll also be delighted to not have to deal with her uncontrollable messiness all of the time!

zazas · 05/08/2017 20:07

It's a bittersweet thought that my eldest will be leaving this September for university. The oldest of five, she will pave the way for her younger siblings and of course how we as parents 'cope' with it! What will we plan to do...enjoy the fact we can all fit around the dinner table in comfort!

tillymint21 · 05/08/2017 20:48

With DD2 off to uni this Sept we're especially looking forward to not being woken in the early hours every weekend when she comes in from nights out! Less mess too. She's had a gap year and been working recently but we know how much she's looking forward to going. I'm very excited for all she's going to to experience and everything that's ahead of her.

llewejk · 05/08/2017 21:39

piece and quiet and less laundry :-) But will be great for her independence.

daisyduke66 · 05/08/2017 21:44

Mainly hearing about all of the activities, things going on and even the lectures!....and re-living my own Uni days all over again!

Haffdonga · 05/08/2017 23:28

Building a new adult relationship with them in a way you cant do when you are sharing a house.

1moreRep · 06/08/2017 07:02

A lie in - 12 years away but i would love a lie in - and maybe a bath in peace

IndianaMoleWoman · 06/08/2017 10:34

DH and I went out for dinner last night and discussed this. We're going to re-visit all the places we went pre-DC, up to and including our honeymoon. I can't wait!

Our DC are currently 9 months and 2 and a half.

JasmineGreen · 06/08/2017 12:22

I am looking forward to her making new friends. Often those friends you keep for life.

Ethan260908 · 06/08/2017 14:49

Hearing about all the things I probably shouldn't known about but which all the same confirms they are making the very best out of the opportunity

svalentine60 · 06/08/2017 16:25

Nothing really. I think I'll miss them too much. I have other children so things will carry on as normal i guess.

SuzCG · 06/08/2017 17:51

Another 7 years before this for me - I will look forward to the pride I have in them getting to Uni and us being able to fund it hopefully. I will look forward to them being able to live independently and look after themselves - and hopefully make good choices about getting the balance between work & play right. And I will look forward to my wash loads & ironing baskets halving!

andbabymakesthree · 06/08/2017 20:08

Looking to seeing them grow into adults and supporting them as I never got support from my parents.

goldenretriever1978 · 06/08/2017 21:06

I would be glad of a spare room to escape into if I need to avoid snoring!

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 07/08/2017 12:32

I'm a Londoner with two DC with high IQs and additional needs so I'm not really expecting them to move out until they've finished their PhDs - for financial reasons as much as anything else. However I'm looking forward to being able to head out to do a pub quiz on a whim without forking out for a babysitter - either with DH on our own or taking the DC with us as an unstoppable family team.
