The summer holidays are finally here and many parents are soon to find out where their DCs may be heading off to university. For teenagers and parents alike, this can be very daunting time. However, it’s also a time some parents may have secretly longed for…freedom is on the horizon!

Endsleigh, a UK provider of student insurance, wants to hear from you as parents about what you’ll be enjoying again, and what plans you’ve made once your DDs and DSs fly the nest.

Here’s what Endsleigh had to say: “Leaving for university doesn’t only affect students, but their parents too. We pride ourselves on understanding students’ needs as they prepare for university, and throughout their university careers. With over 50 years’ experience, Endsleigh is the No. 1 student insurance provider and the only one recommended by NUS.

Our cover protects gadgets, watches, contents, bikes, musical instruments and even tuition fees (if the student has to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances) under one policy—giving students the flexibility to protect the things that matter to them (and you) the most. Endsleigh gives you peace of mind.”

Planning on seeing the world, or moving abroad? Ready to give up washing the sports kit? Converting newly-vacated bedrooms into an office? Or perhaps you just can’t wait to have full control of the tv again!

Whatever you are planning/longing to do when your DCs move into the big wide world of university life, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I would be looking forwards to a clean, well kept house.

gd2011 · 03/08/2017 15:53

Lower food bills

mollymoo818 · 03/08/2017 15:59

Peace and quiet :-) I know that I will be more excited for them and can't wait to hear all about their classes and their social life as I am sure that by then mine will have dwindled.

littleme96 · 03/08/2017 16:16

We are looking forward to being able to take cheaper holidays when we want to rather around term times!

Annieg1234 · 03/08/2017 16:36

im looking forward to having control over the TV and a tidy bathroom. Also looking forward to watching them have some valuable experiencing and life lessons

misty101 · 03/08/2017 17:47

I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet... for about ten minutes till we start missing them!

mooota1514 · 03/08/2017 18:15

I'm looking forward to the washing pile going down and being able to cook normal portions of food instead of growing boys portions. I imagine we'll have lots of leftovers for a while, in the adjustment phase!

CheeseAtFourpence · 03/08/2017 18:29

DD is 6 so a long way off, but looking forward to lie ins, less washing, not tripping over all her stuff - her shoe collection already beats mine so goodness knows what it will be like when she's a teenager. What I'm dreading....the quiet! I'll end up getting another dog to cope!

devito92 · 03/08/2017 18:44

Being the first in the family to get there

mamof3boys · 03/08/2017 19:08

I've got a few years yet before my eldest goes to university - he's just about to start high school - but I am looking forward to the time when I get to hear about his life away from home, and whether he can manage to look after himself.

nettymay · 03/08/2017 19:15

swimming every night and getting fit

Spices001 · 03/08/2017 19:18

Household bills going down 😉
Knowing that they are spreading their wings & have the confidence to do so

Minnibix · 03/08/2017 19:42

I will be looking forward to the visits home, even though it usually comes with a bag of washing an ironing :D

freefan · 03/08/2017 19:54

I'm secretly not looking forward to it but this is purely the selfish side of missing my DD :( but I'm also swept along in their excitement of being independent in their own flat share and meeting new friends. My own student days were amazing so hoping hers are the same.

feenan761 · 03/08/2017 20:03

My eldest daughter is due to start uni this September and I'm looking forward to her coming out of her shell more and meeting lots of new people to form strong friendships with and then telling me all about it.

sarah861421 · 03/08/2017 20:29

My DS has just graduated, and my dd has just finished her first year. I enjoy the flexibility and freedom I have now. I enjoy having less washing and cheaper food bills, but I miss her every day.

Dormouse1940 · 03/08/2017 20:36

Well it's a few years off yet (but the time is already flying).
If my son chooses to go to Uni, I'll love to watch his dreams unfurl and for him to achieve something with hard work and passions.
I ended up meeting some of my greatest friends at Uni and have some fantastic memories, so I'll be really excited for the new adventures awaiting him :)

emzlovesyou · 03/08/2017 20:50

I never went to uni so I will be one of those really excited mums looking forward to hearing about everything! nights out, friends, everything!!!

jandoc · 03/08/2017 21:14

not having to clear everything up

towser44 · 03/08/2017 21:17

Peace and quiet!

nerysw · 03/08/2017 21:29

I'm not even sure I want mine to go. It's so different to when I went (late 90s) and it's depressing to see people now leaving University saddled with a massive debt. If my kids choose to go I'll support them (and be glad of less laundry) but if they choose to train for qualifications while in work they'd probably be better off.

IonaAilidh11 · 03/08/2017 21:32

I'll look forward to hearing about her adventures and nights out, meeting her new friends and going to stay!!!

Our second DC goes this year but is staying at home. I will miss them when they all eventually move out the house but less washing and no bathroom queues will be nice
