The summer holidays are finally here and many parents are soon to find out where their DCs may be heading off to university. For teenagers and parents alike, this can be very daunting time. However, it’s also a time some parents may have secretly longed for…freedom is on the horizon!

Endsleigh, a UK provider of student insurance, wants to hear from you as parents about what you’ll be enjoying again, and what plans you’ve made once your DDs and DSs fly the nest.

Here’s what Endsleigh had to say: “Leaving for university doesn’t only affect students, but their parents too. We pride ourselves on understanding students’ needs as they prepare for university, and throughout their university careers. With over 50 years’ experience, Endsleigh is the No. 1 student insurance provider and the only one recommended by NUS.

Our cover protects gadgets, watches, contents, bikes, musical instruments and even tuition fees (if the student has to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances) under one policy—giving students the flexibility to protect the things that matter to them (and you) the most. Endsleigh gives you peace of mind.”

Planning on seeing the world, or moving abroad? Ready to give up washing the sports kit? Converting newly-vacated bedrooms into an office? Or perhaps you just can’t wait to have full control of the tv again!

Whatever you are planning/longing to do when your DCs move into the big wide world of university life, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

This would be life changing experience not only for them but for us - parents too. There's still many years when my children leave home and go to uni but I do seriously worry now if we can afford to pay for tuition and other bills. I loved my university years and I would like the same for my children. I would miss them terribly and worry too. We this time came and they leave for uni I would be a very proud mum and give them a lot of support. That's what moms are for.

I'm looking forward to downsizing the house and being able to take holidays during school term time again.

I am dreading my son going to uni, as a single mum I will miss him so much, but I don't want to stand in his way so I will just insist he comes to see me as much as is humanly possible!!

NaughtyNannyPlum · 13/08/2017 08:28

I don't have any plans yet but can't wait until I can stop all the constant meal preparation and cleaning up after my children!

sophiefx · 13/08/2017 16:53

I'm looking forward to getting the cleanliness back in the house!!

goneblogging · 13/08/2017 18:22

I'd love to go travelling and explore the world a bit more! Both of mine are still young so it's a few years off, but hopefully we'll be able to tick off a few bucket list destinations in the future.

I'm looking forward to my DC pursuing their interests - both academic and otherwise - once they get to uni. I will definitely advise them not to take out insurance with Endsleigh, however. As a student, all my electrical appliances were destroyed by a power surge, and Endsleigh refused to pay anything towards getting these items replaced. It took me years to earn enough to replace them.

My hopes realising themselves for my DC and then myself are what I'm looking forward to. Dare hardly spell them out!

Smellophant87 · 14/08/2017 13:22

It's a long way off for us - my eldest is 3! But I look forward to all the opportunities it will open up for him, and the fun he will have. I also look forward to the holidays we will be able to take without having to factor in what the kids will enjoy!!

Lorraine1905 · 14/08/2017 16:27

I'll enjoy the peace and quiet but in reality, I'll miss the hustle and bustle. I'll LOVE only having to cook one meal instead of a variety of meals but I'll miss the chat and banter while we're eating together. I won't miss the late night 'mum can you pick me up' calls but I'll miss knowing that he's home safe and sound.

flozza42 · 14/08/2017 21:56

I'm looking forward to coming home from work to a house that was just as tidy as when I left it that morning!

RobertsCrew · 15/08/2017 01:00

Due to the sheer cost of moving out my daughter has decided to stay at home, especially as she is at uni for 7 years. I am not looking forward to her getting in late! However I am most looking forward to her spreading her wings and being able to find what she loves and be able to pursue that and being able to be by her side for it all. I would miss her if she was gone and her cooking as she is our chef!

MarcoPolo7 · 15/08/2017 13:02

It's going to be very quiet when my eldest daughter goes to uni.

I'll miss the hustle and bustle of her life, all her friends coming to the house and her constant chattering.

tabbaz123 · 15/08/2017 19:16

Graduation day and being a proud parent full of jubilation and tears

mm35 · 16/08/2017 00:30

I'm a new mum so enjoying watching baby grow at the moment

EmmaMumsnet · 16/08/2017 11:51

Congratulations to @buckley1983 whose name was pulled from the prize draw to win the £300 voucher! Grin

My eldest spent a year at college last year. She lived there sun evening to Thursday afternoon and we picked her up for the weekend. She hated every minute of it! I think at 17 she wasn't ready to 'live in' so this year she's starting A Levels, living at home and will go to Uni in two years time. I'm hoping by then she will be more confident and ready to live on her own. I think I'm most looking forward to her finding her feet and that she will come into her own and really fly!

JackieF · 18/08/2017 21:03

Seeing my son develop his independence, have lots of new experiences and meet new people.

It will also be nice to have the "X-Box" room back !

clareycat · 19/08/2017 01:27

I'm looking forward to the whole adventure of discovery, the highs and lows and being there every step of the way.
