The summer holidays are finally here and many parents are soon to find out where their DCs may be heading off to university. For teenagers and parents alike, this can be very daunting time. However, it’s also a time some parents may have secretly longed for…freedom is on the horizon!

Endsleigh, a UK provider of student insurance, wants to hear from you as parents about what you’ll be enjoying again, and what plans you’ve made once your DDs and DSs fly the nest.

Here’s what Endsleigh had to say: “Leaving for university doesn’t only affect students, but their parents too. We pride ourselves on understanding students’ needs as they prepare for university, and throughout their university careers. With over 50 years’ experience, Endsleigh is the No. 1 student insurance provider and the only one recommended by NUS.

Our cover protects gadgets, watches, contents, bikes, musical instruments and even tuition fees (if the student has to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances) under one policy—giving students the flexibility to protect the things that matter to them (and you) the most. Endsleigh gives you peace of mind.”

Planning on seeing the world, or moving abroad? Ready to give up washing the sports kit? Converting newly-vacated bedrooms into an office? Or perhaps you just can’t wait to have full control of the tv again!

Whatever you are planning/longing to do when your DCs move into the big wide world of university life, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I'm looking forward to hearing that they are enjoying themselves, meeting new people and becoming more confident. I'm also looking forward to finding out that they are becoming more self sufficient and thoughtful about others too. University should be exciting but challenging and hopefully open doors to new experiences that will bring enriched days.

carolineandbaby · 01/08/2017 19:32

I'm looking forward to seeing them graduate and being there at the ceremony and seeing them all dressed up in a cap and gown looking smart and having that heartwarming feeling of pride running g through me I can't wait to share in their success

sb4278 · 01/08/2017 21:58

I'm looking forward to the peace & quiet

honeyandginger48 · 01/08/2017 22:36

My son didn't get the a-level grades he needed last year and missed out on a place at uni. He was really disappointed at the time but he picked himself up, found a job and has worked hard this year towards his resits. I will have everything crossed for him on results day again this year and am most looking forward to watching him finally achieve what he set out to do and go off to study. His sister, however, is looking forward to moving into his bedroom as it's much bigger!

HalimaB · 01/08/2017 22:42

Would be nice to spend some time for ourselves spend some quality time together as a couple and individually do our own thing

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 01/08/2017 22:46

I'm looking forward to seeing DD enjoy herself and be engaged in her interests.

I didn't have the support from my family so didn't get to go to uni till much later in life.

friedegs · 01/08/2017 22:47

I will wave them off happily wishing them the best time ahead.... and my heart will break.

Stopyourhavering · 01/08/2017 22:56

Looking forward to not having to hunt for errant mugs, glasses and crockery from son's bedroom!....looking forward to going on first holiday without children in 23 yrs ( for our 30th wedding Anniversary!)...but also looking forward to visiting ds at uni as he'll be heading back to place where I grew up which is over 300 miles from where we now live!..., hope he has as much fun learning new subjects and meeting new people at Uni as I did 35 yrs ago

FlukeSkyeRunner · 02/08/2017 07:53

Bring able to take family holidays outside of school holidays. I hope they will still want to come on family holidays with us.

PearlyPinkNails · 02/08/2017 08:24

I've got one more left to send to uni and then I'm a free agent!

I'm looking forward to not have to listen to "There's no food in the house" when I've literally just been shopping, and to not having a million glasses left upstairs in the bedrooms.

inashizzle · 02/08/2017 08:28

Can not wait to see her bedroom floor clothes mountain clear and clean- might even find her passport, iPhone, and keys and of course cutlery( only forks actually as I guess knives would've taken much more effort).

Looking forward to visiting her , living life to the full, knowing there'll be filthy, cluttery housemates that will revolutionise her benchmarks of spotless for ever more.

What do they do when they've forgotten keys at 4am on uni grounds?

Flamingosarepink · 02/08/2017 08:42

I cannot wait to hear all about their new adventures, the people they meet, nights out etc.
On a more personal note I cannot wait to go on holiday out of peak season and not be stuck to school holidays.

Im also rather struck on the idea that when I get home from work that the house will be in the same condition it was left in. Food will still be in the fridge too!!

PepeLePew · 02/08/2017 08:46

My mother used to send the most wonderful parcels - just little things like a phonecard, fudge, socks, pens etc. It was always a lovely surprise and something I plan on doing for the DCs.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/08/2017 09:37

Seeing their excitement about new opportunities & experiences.

And I guess having a bit more 'me' time - and a quieter, tidier house!

Ghjklf · 02/08/2017 10:21

Despite the pressures and worries that seem to face young people these days I love the fact that my DC still seem to be so excited and enthusiastic about their lives and the opportunities that they have. They all work really hard and it's such a relief that they all seem to relish their years at university. I want my DC to see University as a stepping stone to the rest of their lives and so far they do.

Two have just graduated and two are still there

I also love the clean house when they go

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2017 13:37

I'm really going to miss dd. I love having her around, I'll be excited for her, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Bazzinga · 02/08/2017 13:44

Moving into a 1 bed caravan by the sea! ;-) total peace and quiet. I might go home for the hols!

JimmyGrimble · 02/08/2017 15:14

My boy is off this year. I am looking forward to getting up in the morning and not finding a snoring teenager on the sofa and not having to empty the living room bin twice a day due to all the fizzy pop cans and crisp packets. I am looking forward to hearing about how difficult it is to budget on a student income (he's currently telling us that he 'probably won't need to work' - he will) I am looking forward to him coming home and appreciating it a bit more.
I love my boy. He is wonderful and creative and funny. But he's ready to go now.

Elliepurpleflower · 02/08/2017 15:30

It's a long way off for us and I'm sure I will miss them terribly - but I will love being able to walk out of the room knowing that when I come back into it, it will still be tidy :)

Teabay · 02/08/2017 17:24

My food left in the fridge!

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 02/08/2017 18:13

I will miss DD's sarcasm but will be able to have a jar of nutella for more than a coup!e of days. . I have a year before she flies the nest but even then I won't be on my own as I have a 9year old DC. However, when he goes I am emigrating to India or Sri Lanka , or Thailand and living a simp!e life by the sea.I have had this fantasy for years.

joeyhanmum · 02/08/2017 20:44

A way off for me, but I had a great time at uni and made friends for life - I would hope it encourages my kids to be independent if they go, how to manage and cope on their own, whilst hopefully having an amazing time!

Hopezibah · 02/08/2017 21:16

Not shouting at him all day long for driving us crazy! For him not to be moaning 'i'm bored' all the time. For us not to have to monitor all his screen time. Just a break from it all really!!! (oh and not having to repair the car after he broke the whole door!)

Pipstarz41 · 02/08/2017 22:24

This is ages away for us at the moment, so I would currently look forward to being able to be more spontaneous in the evening and going out more

busymummy3 · 02/08/2017 22:51

My Dd going into final year so really looking forward to her coming through this year after all her hard work being rewarded with a fab graduation day she will be first in our family to go through uni and we all so proud of her !
