The summer holidays are finally here and many parents are soon to find out where their DCs may be heading off to university. For teenagers and parents alike, this can be very daunting time. However, it’s also a time some parents may have secretly longed for…freedom is on the horizon!

Endsleigh, a UK provider of student insurance, wants to hear from you as parents about what you’ll be enjoying again, and what plans you’ve made once your DDs and DSs fly the nest.

Here’s what Endsleigh had to say: “Leaving for university doesn’t only affect students, but their parents too. We pride ourselves on understanding students’ needs as they prepare for university, and throughout their university careers. With over 50 years’ experience, Endsleigh is the No. 1 student insurance provider and the only one recommended by NUS.

Our cover protects gadgets, watches, contents, bikes, musical instruments and even tuition fees (if the student has to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances) under one policy—giving students the flexibility to protect the things that matter to them (and you) the most. Endsleigh gives you peace of mind.”

Planning on seeing the world, or moving abroad? Ready to give up washing the sports kit? Converting newly-vacated bedrooms into an office? Or perhaps you just can’t wait to have full control of the tv again!

Whatever you are planning/longing to do when your DCs move into the big wide world of university life, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

If I was in that position I'd be looking forward to my child getting out there into the world and broadening their horizons and turning into an adult! AND having the house to myself!

MrsDramaQueen · 03/08/2017 10:21

I'm not looking forward to my child going. I would like to keep them at home forever. Lol. I suppose it would be teaching them skills to be independent and make good decisions.

LeeR1985 · 03/08/2017 10:35

Depending on finances, i'd love to go on a cruise and see places i've never seen before.

AuFinch · 03/08/2017 10:35

Awww I dont want him to go - he in last year of school this year and already he talking about taking this and that with him when he goes. I always miss him loads when he is staying over with friends or family.

I will look forward to hearing about what he is up to, and the great time he will have, but secretly I will miss him loads, and to be honest worry a little! I know I have to let him leave the nest and be independent so I keep it secret that I don't want him to go.

What will i look forward to? well I wont miss being a free taxi service and having to handle the smelly socks! I think I will enjoy having a few drinkiepoos with the OH when the "taxi" is parked up for the day.

finleypop · 03/08/2017 10:44

The only thing I am looking forward to, is being able to go on holiday in term time, but that will be countered by our son not being on holiday with us

Emmap12 · 03/08/2017 10:47

I'm looking forward to them learning to cook, clean and budget their finances. At the moment my 12 year old doesn't show any interest in these things 😂

jacqui5366 · 03/08/2017 10:53

I would feel that I have done a good job in preparing my DC to enable him to feel able to move out independently going to university, having good budgeting skills for their loan, to be able to cook a basic healthy meal for themselves, and finally not having to pick all those darn wet towels off the bathroom floor every morning.

Ikea1234 · 03/08/2017 11:00

I'm not sure I am looking forward to it tbh, as I am a born worrier! I definitely wouldn't stop my son going, but at the moment I just panic! He has Aspergers, and whilst he is very bright, he has no common sense or street wise-ness at all. Plus there's the fact we'd get left with his tortoise as she won't be able to go with him I guess....

On the plus side, if he goes, there'll always be food in the cupboard, and the internet won't be sucked straight from the router to his bedroom, and we might actually get a look in! 😂

shellywkd · 03/08/2017 11:33

I'm looking forward to having a tidy house and spending way less on food

stefalfie11 · 03/08/2017 12:03

I'm most looking forward to them forging their own lives and watching them deal with having more independence. Also knowing my chocolate won't mysteriously go missing anymore is great!

DiJones · 03/08/2017 12:11

peace and quiet, probably be fed up with this after a month though

mo3733 · 03/08/2017 12:12

i am looking forward to not having to plan tea every night and just catering for one

moneypenny66 · 03/08/2017 12:18

I'm looking forward to being able to get into the bathroom! My ds spends soooo long in there and at such odd times, it will be wonderful to have the bathroom back.

footdust · 03/08/2017 12:26

Not having to sit with crossed legs while waiting for my daughter to vacate the bathrroom when she is primping for a night out!!

iut044 · 03/08/2017 12:33

A quiet clean house and not having to pick after them .

moosexxx · 03/08/2017 13:02

Time and quiet for my wife and I to enjoy our own, and each others company.

feefeegabor · 03/08/2017 13:49

Tidying up her room, chucking out stuff she's had for years and really getting into those corners!

glennamy · 03/08/2017 14:12

Will miss DD1 when she goes... But I suppose bathroom time will be more readily available and not look like a bomb has been exploded :)

10milewalk · 03/08/2017 14:33

When all my DC go, I'm most looking forward to having a romantic holiday with my Hubby and spending some time together, after years of being a taxi for our children.

My DD is going this September, but I'll still have two other children at home yet.

emilybc · 03/08/2017 14:39

Hearing about their new adventures!

KittyKat88 · 03/08/2017 14:48

I hope they just get to make the most of the choices they make! It will be a few years yet before my DDs fly the nest, but I hope that University will still be an 'affordable' option for them, and I look forward to planning some ventures of my own once they've gone!

MummyBtothree · 03/08/2017 14:53

If my DC's decide to go to university I will be looking forward to hearing about the great social life and enjoy such a great time in their lives. I would not however be looking forward to waving them off and the 'goodbyes'.

ThemisA · 03/08/2017 15:01

Enjoying their life from afar without having the day to day annoyances (on both sides). Talking about the academics when he is home.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 03/08/2017 15:07

Just the act of them actually being a Uni student! (No one in either mine or DP's family had been to university). We are still 10 years away from it happening but we already have started saving to help them.

cnut · 03/08/2017 15:18

Tough one because of how much you miss and worry for them, but truthfully the stress levels around the house decrease, less housework and drama, and more peace and quiet!!
