We all have those moments: you had to work late, drinks with friends went on longer than expected, you’ve been stuck in traffic for hours, and when you get home you realise that you haven’t eaten. These are the points where we just reach for whatever’s left in the cupboard. Thoughts of nutritional value, appearance, even taste, go out the window and all you can think about is eating. Fast.

Mumsnet has discussed a lot of strange food combinations over the years; that’s why Deliveroo has come here to ask about the weirdest ‘emergency dinners’ you’ve ever had to resort to – those last minute grab-anything-out-of-the-fridge-and-throw-it-on-a-plate meals.

Here's what they have to say: 'We know what it’s like when you’re up against it. You haven’t had chance to rustle something up for yourself let alone get anything sorted for the kids. On those days, there’s no need to reach for the mystery jar lurking at the back of the cupboard when you can order something healthy and delicious from Deliveroo. We’re all about bringing you great food, from great restaurants, quickly. If you’ve got the app you can even order on your way home and meet your Deliveroo rider at your door. So the next time you’re in a sticky food situation, don’t rummage around in the fridge, get your favourite restaurant delivered to keep the whole family happy.'

Maybe you’ve been known to reach for the baked beans and eat them cold from the tin, or plain pasta with cheese? Perhaps you’ve gone even further and come up with some really questionable combinations! Whatever it is, we’ve all been there, so don’t be shy – post on the thread with your emergency food failures.

Every Mumsnetter who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky winner will be sent a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Lydia30 · 29/06/2017 22:29

Something my husband calls rally stew. It was what he used to make when camping and was done with tinned goods, potatoes, Irish stew, stewed steak, carrots & peas and he added an oxo. It's surprisingly tasty

BananaDaiquiri · 29/06/2017 23:25

leftover bolognese from the night before (cold) sandwiched between two slices of bread

lilrahi · 29/06/2017 23:46

Toast. I always have bread in the freezer for emergencies.

DH used to regularly eat cold tinned tomatoes and bread and butter through choice!

lucyrobinson · 30/06/2017 07:10

We have ended up offering the kiddies bread and butter, toast, cheese and crackers.

Cold baked beans and crisp sandwiches Shock

HannahLI · 30/06/2017 09:35

Pasta on toast was definitely weird. It was one of those days where I forgot to defrost food, hadn't been shopping and thats all there was available! Carb overload!

shewhomustbeEbayed · 30/06/2017 09:40

Packet golden savoury rice cooked in the microwave then mixed with hoisin sauce and peanut butter for a make do satay.

jocaps · 30/06/2017 09:44

baked beans and scrambled egg with leftover potatoes - feast ready in 2 minutes

dm520 · 30/06/2017 11:05

Three minute egg noodless fried up in the pan with slices of cheese and paprika on top.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 30/06/2017 11:50

Super noodles (chicken flavour) on toast.

Or lacking bread, said noodles with a handful of frozen peas thrown in - I guess slightly better if it includes 1 of your 5 a day!

I once ran out of biscuits (horror!!) and made something sort of similar out of small shapes cut out of rolled short crust pastry and chocolate spread. They were actually quite nice, despite the terrible photo!

My STBX had just left us, and my DS's requested pancakes for breakfast. He always did the cooking, this was my attempt! They really missed dad after this!

I like sour cream on pretty much anything!

MillyVanilli222 · 30/06/2017 13:56

I've had Ryvita dipped in ketchup the day before payday, as that was all I had in the cupboard! And as a student, I once used red wine as a mixer for vodka. I don't even like red wine...!

VickyRsuperstar · 30/06/2017 17:05

For myself when my blood sugar is low and I've no energy to cook, I am very happy to eat a tin of cold Ambrosia Rice pudding! If it's a family meal, I've put rice in the rice maker and then found we only had butter and peas to go with it as the freezer and fridge contents were running low. Other times we had Pasta and peas with butter. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally we find one of the kids has eaten all the ingredients (like all the cheese or cooked chicken) and we can't make anything sensible!

Cat1980uk · 30/06/2017 17:15

Potatoes made into chips but when short on time and money I also used the skins, washed and fried them for extra food and served with grated cheese on

RoseTico · 30/06/2017 18:09

I ordered emergency pizza when our freezer broke. Somehow I ticked the wrong box and it arrived with no cheese and no sauce, literally just a plain pizza base in the box with loose toppings rolling around. I ate it anyway...

I'm the queen of emergency food, whether it's just plain boiled pasta or a packet of ding rice...from the packet! My favorite drunken food emergency is just plain old bread, weirdly though i love to remove the crusts & then squish it into a doughy ball and eat it.
