Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My cat Boris loved water. I once came home to find him on my bed with his face completely submerged in a glass of water that I have by the bed with bubbles coming out of his nose.

One of my lovely ferrets Loki managed to break out of his hut one Christmas. It had snowed heavily that day and he is an albino! So we searched for hours for our white ferret in the snow, to no avail. We had completely lost hope as more than 2 weeks had gone by, the weather had been awful, really heavy snow, cold and windy, he was domestic so not used to fending for himself out in the open. I was heading home from work one day and I got a call on my mobile, it was in response to a lost ad we had placed online. It turned out, our wee ferret had been sleeping under some woman's decking in her back garden more than 3 miles from our house, and sneaking in to her neighbours garden and eating his prize racing pigeons 🙈 he had apparently made his way through £1500 of pigeon before he was discovered! The man was understandably very angry but his sons prevented him from seeking revenge on our ferret luckily! When we went to collect him I was worried we wouldn't recognise him, he was bound to be dirty and thin and scared... non of those things, he was bouncy and white and fluffy and as fat as a wee pudding!! I was mighty glad to get him back!

My cat disappeared for a couple of days and I was worried. I looked everywhere for him. My neighbour eventually found him in her shed in a paint pot, he had fallen in it and was covered from head to foot in paint. Luckily he was only very hungry and thirsty xxx

Went out for a few hours to find the dog had chewed the knobs off of the washing machine and oven ShockHmm

OksanaFitzgerald · 04/04/2017 20:13

My cat jumped in a bath she thought was empty as usual, but it was full of water and she got the shock of her life

Fred the Budgie used to like sitting in a thin vase. Disappeared one day only to be found wedged head first down the vase. Luckiily for Fred he survived a good while longer.

I had a tin of open paint perched on a computer tower and I thought it was secure , I opened a bedroom door the cat zoomed out looked over the paint and it all trickled down the stairs plus there was cat footprints all downstairs .

Our cat clings to the front door with all fours n knocks the letterbox with her nose

Our miniature sausage dog liked to try and jump up and down off the couch! A very expensive trip to the vets later on and one not so brave sausage dog! Hope Freddie has learnt his lesson

I have two cats, one big tough boy and one little meek girl.

We lock them in at night as there are some bad drivers around. One night we couldn't find either cat, so searched the whole house. Eventually found Boy in the top bedroom, sitting underneath a velum window which was ajar, flicking his tail angrily.

I immediately knew that Girl was on the roof and the Boy was angry with her for it. So poked my head out of the window, and there was Girl, sitting majestically on the chimney, surveying her kingdom.

I called Girl, and she cheerfully strolled over to me... and started to slip down the tiles. I watched her claw at the tiles but slip backwards, giving me pleading eyes. She slipped off the third storey roof. I was screaming at this stage, and stormed down the stairs to find her body.

There was no body.. I combed the surrounding street and she wasn't to be found.

Hours later, i was in bed with Boy when we heard a little squeaky meow, and who strolled in casually, but Girl. She was checked by the vet and 100% fine, but I think she lost a life that night!

We now always put the velux on the slightly open / lock setting!

We live in the next road to the local fire station and everytime an engine goes out with its sirens on my dog throws his head back and howls his head off to it. He is currently featured on NPower Facebook adverts in a clip doing this

mishknight · 04/04/2017 22:16

not so much a mishap but still a funny pet story. Our budgie learnt to mimic the sound of the TV channel changing. So when my partner left the room he told me off for turning over what he was watching, came back in the room and realised I hadn't changed it at all and I explained about the budgie.

CristinW · 04/04/2017 22:53

My dog decided to play with the clip off the top of a paint can, silly OH put it on the floor. Thanfully the dog didn't swallow it but did get it stuck round one of her back teeth! That was an expensive Sunday!

sbruin1122 · 04/04/2017 23:05

Our tortoise keeps flipping over!

Andbabymakesthree · 04/04/2017 23:08

The local feral Tom cat managed to open a neighbours bedroom window and climbed in at 4am. It got stuck in blind and I thought it was my wardrobe rail crashing down. It was so loud. They thought it was an escaped lynx!

Cheryl36 · 04/04/2017 23:58

When we got our puppy, I went to our local pet shop & splashed the cash on a luxurious, padded dog bed for her! Everything was fine, until she started teething. She absolutely shredded it. Lesson learned the hard way.

kaycm25 · 05/04/2017 08:41

When walking our dog in the park Buddy, our dog jumped down a muddy slope into the river for a swim only for him to realise that it was too steep for him to get back up. This lead to my husband attempting to him, falling in he mud and me laughing my head off by side of the river.

Squeezed · 05/04/2017 08:56

My dog managed to steal and devour a whole big tub of butter. He was sick everywhere but still looked happy at what he'd done. Labrador, obviously.

Flapdoodles · 05/04/2017 09:48

I had left a few Christmas presents under the Christmas tree, I thought they were smellies and candles as this particular friend always bought me these. I put them there on the Friday and all was fine over the weekend, our Cocker Spaniel showed no interest in them at all but when I got home from work on the Monday she had eaten a full box of Thornton's Chocolate (wrappers discarded on the floor) and a box of after eight mints! She was running manically round and round the garden, trying to burn off the high caused by the chocolate. We did phone the vets but as she was not unwell they told us to adopt a watch and wait policy and after about 3 days she calmed down! I have never left gifts under the tree since.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 05/04/2017 13:01

We used to have quite a few cats that we rescued and gave forever homes to so the dry cat food used to a really big sack of food that we shut in the understairs cupboard.
One of the Siamese cats called Ashley was missing for a quite a while one day. Ashley was a slim handsome chap, until it was that we finally found him, you've guessed it, in the cupboard under the stairs.
Ashley had eaten so many cat biscuits that you could actually see the outline of the biscuits on his tummy area. He could hardly move and had grown an enormously round tummy.
We called the vet who said it was quite serious and poor Ashley wasn't allowed any food for two days after that incident.

Cookies77 · 05/04/2017 20:32

I was home alone with my boyfriends Siamese cat and it trapped me in the bathroom for a full hour (because it went for me every time I attempted to leave) - was late for work and everything! I feel a bit embarrassed admitting this as a fully grown woman...

fionatinkerbelljames · 06/04/2017 09:30

We just moved into a new flat with built in wardrobes & suddenly we couldn't find the cat & she hadn't been let out yet. We searched & searched for ages, then later on heard a meow. She was behind the built in wardrobes. She had jumped to the top & down the other side. We had to break the wardrobes to get her out.

juju3 · 06/04/2017 10:01

kids wanted a pet and we finally gave in a brought a guinea pig - fell ill the within days and died 2 days later - very sad. Did show them how much work there is with pets
