Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Every few days my cat will jump on top of the door frame from the window ledge, but in doing so the door closes over just enough where she can't jump back to the window ledge so she whinges until I come and get her

Our house is part brick and then has wood cladding halfway up. Our cat got on the garden fence and then jumped up onto the vertical wood cladding and started to scale the wall. He actually got level with the upstairs bedroom window before realising he couldn't get down and promptly fell off. Thankfully he was fine and hasn't tried to climb up the house since!

When I was a child my mother was quite keen on giving dinner parties. She has set out the dining room ready with a prawn cocktail starter. Unbeknown to her she had shut the cat in too. When she returned the cat had carefully extracted every prawn from the cocktail glasses and left a trail of Marie Rose sauce cat prints over the highly polished table.

My dog has cost me a fortune - she is a working cocker and working springer cross and has inherited the worst traits from both breeds. As a puppy she was so hyperactive and was walked for 2+ hours a day to try and manage her energy. She is obsessed by birds and on one occasion she chased a seagull and jumped right off a sheer, blind cliff face into the sea. She cut her paw badly and needed stitches but was lucky to be alive.

my dog is crazy about potatoes! we have to make sure they are out of reach other wise he will drag them all out and play with them! countless times ive got into the kitchen and found potatoes rolling all over the place. he even knows when you have brought them when shopping as goes crazy for the bag with potatoes in it!

Our tortoise is surprisingly territorial and fast, and often chases birds and cats out of our garden. One regular visiting cat decided to play a game and positioned itself in a small gap in some stacked up terracotta plant pots - our tortoise went charging in to chase the cat and not only could not reach it but actually managed to topple them all sending them crashing and smashed to the ground. One way to scare a cat!

My dog managed to get left over korma from the counter whilst everyone was asleep, ate it and then feel asleep in it. She woke up with an orangey/yellow face that just wouldn't wash off her lovely white coat for a good few week!! Doh!

My cat Charlie is almost 14 now & I've had him since he was just 12 weeks old. On his very first day out he decided he was going to try to catch a wood pigeon which was twice the size of him. Luckily I was there to rescue him as the wood pigeon was taking off with Charlie still attached to it's tail, Charlie just wouldn't let go. Later the same day he decided to investigate the roof & then walked across next door's car port & up on to their roof which is a chalet bungalow so very steep. He was stuck up there crying as he couldn't get back down again so I had to ask my neighbour to climb up & get him down. Luckily he had roofing ladders or Charlie would have been up there a lot longer. You'd have thought he'd learn his lesson from that but, no, the next 2 days he did exactly the same thing but on other neighbours rooves. I knew from then on that he was going to be a bundle of mischief

My cat loves to squeeze herself into a box- the smaller the better! Excess cat dangling over the edge of the box is not a pretty sight but she seems to enjoy it

My dog Ben and my cat Gizmo are a real double act and so funny.
Ben has a habit of checking out the kitchen bin if I forget to empty it before I go out. I come home to find it tipped all over the floor and Ben grovelling and looking guilty and sheepish !
A while ago I came home and found the bin tipped up , but Ben wasn't doing the guilt thing ?
Gizmo sat there innocently washing her face and Ben kept looking at her and then me, if he'd had a speech bubble it couldn't have been clearer.. It was her ! It was her !

My Border Terrier makes us howl with laughter most days!
Occasionally when we are out and about he will react very strangely to innate and harmless objects he is unsure of. We were in Cornwall a couple of weeks a go and there was a basket of fluffy yellow toy chicks complete with feathers that tickled his nose every time he sniffed them in the shop. Some other people noticed his reaction and found him very amusing.

meggysar · 01/04/2017 16:33

Our cat decided to up her gifts and brought us in a rat. However I didn't know this and my other half in his wisdom decided to dispose of it in the food recycling container without telling us. Needless to say it is not what I expected to see when throwing out my vegetable peelings!!

boobybirdsworth · 01/04/2017 16:36

Both of my cats completely destroyed the Christmas tree, if I went near they would pounce and scratch!

My cat loved jumping on the window ledge of my bedroom in my old house. When I moved into my new house she came into my bedroom one day and tried to jump on the ledge there, not realising there wasn't one... she jumped up and literally just slid down the wall and then ran out of the room like she was almost embarrassed! It still makes me laugh when I think about it Grin

Our adopted dog has separation anxiety, so howls or chews when left alone. He also chews cans of lager or fruit juice then paddles around the kitchen in it...
He's now crated whenever he's left.

We rescued bought two 6 month old Siamese kittens, as our 13 year old Siamese was lonely after her "brother" was killed last August.

For the moment, until they complete their feline Leukemia jabs, they are indoor cats - but, as kittens are full of life (one of the reasons their previous owner had to get rid of them as his wife they couldn't cope with them careering around the single room that they were allowed in).

We initially keep them shut in our lounge (leaving the older cat free to roam the house and we could also open the window to let her out the cat flap is shut for the moment )

We lost one Shock Nowhere to be seen Confused Definitely not been left out the room Confused Checked under the sofas, down the back of the TV unit, behind the speakers Confused Still just one kitten visible Confused

Eventually I noticed a sag in the webbing underneath one of the sofas..... Felt it and there was definitely weight in it. Remembered there was a hole at one end where dh had had to fix one of the casters. Tried tipping the sofa up to get him out - but the claws came out to hang on to the webbing.

But at least we knew where he was Smile

His brother then discovered the same sleeping place, so there was an ever bigger sag in the webbing!

Two days later, when I took them to the vet to be checked and get their 1st feline Leukemia jab, dh spent the time duct taping the webbing, so they no longer have that hiding place!

They've now settled in very well - the older cat (for whom they are supposed to be company Hmm) is still hissing at them, but it's only been a week and they're now getting closer to get before she starts hissing.

My dog goes around the cack of the television looking for the people from the voices he hears. He also looks at himself in a mirror and growls and barks at himself

We had a guinea pig that chewed through the television cable. Luckily it wasn't hurt, but we did have to replace the cable!

Our lovely dog 'Patrick' appeared to be really ill, a piece of white appeared from his rear end and he was howling in agony. I trod on the end of it and he ran forward - it seemed to go on forever - at last it came to an 'end' and he yelped with Joy. He had actually eaten a Golf Ball!

Lisapaige24 · 01/04/2017 20:31

One of my dogs only has one eye and has scarring in the other on so he constantly walks into everything we have to put padding on bottom of doors for him to stop him hurting himself and the other dog is clumsy she's like scooby doo try running but ends up sprawled across the floor as her legs are so long but her body is quite heavy she just falls flat on her face when she does eventually get up and runs she never knows when to stop and runs into everything

APaperMe · 01/04/2017 20:54

Ok so we have a lot of pets, 2 dogs , a cockatoo, a skink , and some goldfish are just a few. Our dogs when younger were trouble, especially our whippet. We were in the middle of decorating the kitchen and had nipped out to the shop, when we came back we returned to a big puddle of orange paint, one dog was paintfree while our naughty whippet had orange socks and face ! can you guess who the paint tin opener was !?!?!

Usually our Labrador was not left home alone, but one Saturday we both had to work so the dog was left for four hours, with toys & a bone. On arriving home the leather settee was in bits as a very innocent looking Labrador tried to pretend he knew nothing of the incident! It was an expensive morning as unfortunately we were not covered for this on our insurance. At least it was a one off incident, as if payback for us leaving him.
