Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My dog came bounding into our living room after we had just had anew wooden floor put down poor pebbles she was so excited to get home to see what had been going on she slid the whole way across the floor and straight into the wall on the other side lol thank goodness she was ok

My STUPID cat Chester managed to climb to the top of our Christmas tree and fall out, dragging the entire thing on top of him! He had a big cut that required a stitch above his eye!!

We recently rehomed an adult bearded dragon. Although we had done lots of research we weren't prepared for brumation and genuinely thought we had killed him.

Pet insurance has helped us a lot in the past. My Dalmatian managed to break a claw more than one which took surgical intervention that I'd not of been able to afford without it.
Also helped when my smaller dog was attacked

We were on holiday in a cottage in wales that had decking outside the patio window. On the second evening, our dog, Bonnie heard a noise outside and needed to urgently run out to investigate. Unfortunately, she skidded on the slippy decking, fell down some steps and injured her nose and one of claws bent off. It was horrible and also the end of the holiday for us, the vet we phoned in Wales didn't have an appointment for a few days so we just packed up and came home

We have a lovely fluffy Rabbit called 'Stew' and he loves nothing better than hopping round the house exploring and eating the crumbs on our kitchen floor. One weekend we had been decorating and left the paint trays in the utility (covered by a carrier bag), he managed to get inside and with paws full of white paint proceeded to run round our lounge, conservatory and hall, leaving a trail of foot marks on carpets and wooden floors, we laughed and cried, and luckily were covered on the insurance !

I fell over in my local park when walking our two dogs and managed to break my ankle! The following day, our youngest dog jumped on the table and got hold of the punnet of grapes that my dh had bought me as a get well soon pressie! The two dogs had eaten them between them before I realised! Knowing grapes are toxic to dogs I rushed them to the vets! She took one look at me hobbling in on crutches and had to laugh, "this isn't your lucky day is it?" Both dogs required overnight stays on drips - very, very expensive bunch of grapes!! Thankfully they were fully insured!

We have two cats and one is very easy going and just comes to you for food and everything is on his terms! The other cat Midnight is just like a toddler, I cannot even go to the toilet without him wanting attention and to play. He is a great hunter as well and often brings in gifts, recently this included a live pigeon which naturally went mad inside our kitchen, dinning room and lounge. We eventually managed to get the pigeon to safety and in the garden but the mess it left behind took ages to clearance and sort out!!

When I was little, we had a standard sized Yorkshire Terrier. He used to sleep downstairs but every morning he would thunder up the stairs and leap onto Mum and Dad's bed. One day they decided to upgrade their double bed for a new one which was taller then the previous one. The next morning the dog did his usual leap towards Mum and Dad but slammed straight against the side of the new bed. He was unhurt - other than his pride!

My Blackie thinks she is a cat.
She is not a cat.
She is a Dog.
Blackie is a Collie cross between probably hundreds of other dogs, lol. She is the most affectionate rescue pup I have ever known. She is so gentle, daft, soppy, and we nicnamed her Sally Seal as she doesn't just wag her tail, but her entire backside!
Her mishaps are constant though, so much so we have had to install locks on the upstairs windows as she likes to pretend she is a lemming.
No, she is not trying to end it all, its whenever we leave the house to do shopping, she opens the kitchen door which is where her bed is, she will run upstairs, undo the bedroom door, jump in the window, and woe betide if the kids have left a window open as she will prick up her Bat-like ears and jump to try and catch up to us!
She hates us leaving the house, she won't bark, or whine, but she will curl up, looking, but not looking at us out of the corner of her eye when we get our coats on, and so many times we have had to get her checked out because the kids have left the windows open.
She is getting better, and we wouldn't change her for the world, but I do wish she would learn she ain't no Batman! lol She is 19 now, a grand old age, getting grey around the eyes, but plenty of life in the ol' dog yet!

My dog (Labrador) who used to eat everything ate a rolled up pair of socks which I didn't know about. The next day in the garden I saw her straining and I honestly thought she was giving birth as she something black in a shape looked like a little black lab puppy. It was in fact the black rolled up pair of socks she had eaten and was a sock poo!

After cooking 100 mini sausage rolls for a family party I went upstairs for a shower. When I came down the rolls were gone not a crumb left. Convinced my hubby had taken them to the venue while I was in the shower. When we got to the party I said where did u put the sausage rolls? Turns out my dog had eaten the lot! He wasn't even sick

StephanieKeill86 · 04/04/2017 11:18

One of my dogs has a really bad habit of trying to jump from bridges, once he did and I'm so thankful there was water and it was a huge drop, hasnt deterted him though!

Our old dog did everything and was on a mission to be the most expensive dog ever.

He managed to cut his foot badly on a bank holiday rushing into the sea and then chased ducks which were moulting so couldn't fly for 40 minutes with me swimming after him. He also ate all the chocolate decorations off our Christmas tree one Christmas Eve and spent the whole of Christmas Day feeling very unwell.

Other star turns include opening a cupboard and puncturing a carton of apple juice and then getting into the flour - that was on his first day in our new house. He scratched at the door so badly I thought he was going to rip through the door.

He ate cakes if they were out cooling before being decorated, he stole half of a nine layer dip I was going to take to a school party, he ate blocks of butter that were softening before being used for baking.

Other habits included eating pairs of shoes & sandals, he even managed to chew up a pair of DMs.

We miss him but we were much more careful with our new dogs, he lived to be nearly 15 despite having had a hip replacement, his spleen removed and flying across the Atlantic. His favourite plane journey was to the Channel Islands as he was too large to travel in the hold so had to have a seat at the front of the plane.

I once found my tortoise eating my cats food, while at the same time my cat was asleep in her home! They must have decided to swap life's for the day! Was hilarious xxx

jphowden89 · 04/04/2017 12:43

Got home once from looking after my grandmas very portly Golden Labrador to find out it had somehow managed to open the cupboard under the sink pull the bin off the door and had eaten a large amount on it's contents. Luckily he hadn't eaten anything too bad for him but could have been a lot worse.

angiehoggett · 04/04/2017 13:14

my 2 parrots are hilarious, the younger one Meesha loves to help in the kitchen and she gets covered in flour when I'm baking, I have a great snap of her sitting in the sieve!

marie2002 · 04/04/2017 13:36

My hamster played dead, it was laid motionless on its back... I went to get a box to put him in (feeling sad).. I got to cage and it was running across carpet, escape artist... I never fell for it again xx

A few days before Christmas just gone, I was doing lots of Christmas baking, I had a huge tray of around 40ish eggs I had bought from the farm shop. Our labrador Marley was sleeping in his bed, which happens to be opposite the fridge, I went to get the eggs from the fridge and my neighbour knocked on my front door, Marley jumped up, a little startled, and knocked me and the eggs flying! We were both covered in egg and my poor kitchen had egg in places I never even knew existed!

It took me hours to clean myself, Marley and the kitchen up!
I ended up buying a Christmas pudding and Yule log in the shops after that!

melaspurt · 04/04/2017 15:25

I went out for a few hours and left my cat Kitty indoors with his tray full of food, water and litter tray! I got back to a smell of cats wee. He had only gone and weed on my expensive hair straighteners that I had left on the floor to cool down! I wasn't impressed - but couldn't stay mad forever when I looked at his cute face.
