Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I've had cats all my life and every one has done something ridiculous. I think my favourite was, as a child, when we lived beside the most complaining, bitter, gossipy, unpleasant couple. They were retired and had taken up being complete pains as a career. Our much loved big tom, on Christmas Day, as the turkey was resting, nipped in through the kitchen window and basically helped himself. Personally I'd just have cut the bit off that he'd had a go at but they obviously had to throw the whole thing out and eat beans on toast. Profuse apologies were issued and when word got out in the street, we were quite the heroes!

Our pet dog had a habbit ofchewing ball point pens if left out, that blue/black ink gets everywhere

Not a pet mistake, but on one of my visits to my boyfriends house, there were some sweets on the table, so I asked him if I could have one. He replied yes, so I took one, and thought they were rather chewy, so didnt have any more. Later he told me they were dog sweets. Amazingly we're still together, nearly 30 years later!

Our cat used to open the fridge door to steal the bacon, we had to put a child lock on it

My mum bought a pair of shoes when I was younger and they were a lot more expensive than she would usual spend on a pair. She spent days changing her mind about whether to keep them or not before deciding they cost to much and she would take them back. She put them on the side ready to take back later in the day and took us to school. When she got home she discovered our dog had decided they were his new chew toy and ripped them to shreds.

We had two dogs one large one small. The large one kept thinking it was the size of the little one and followed him around and kept getting stuck under chairs or knocking them over all the time!
They also both also tore a cushion we had put in their kennel...we came home to feathers all over the garden!

My son decided he wanted a rat for his first pet! So I agreed.... but told him he had to have 2! (Didn't want it to be lonely)
We went to purchase 2..... checked they were both male & took them home!
Weeks later they had babies!!!!!!! Turns out the pet store had sold me a male & female instead of 2 males! Shock

Our cat managed to break a toe jumping off the shed roof !! You cant actually set a cat's toe so he was limping for a couple of weeks and looking very sorry for himself ! Didn't stop hime being acrobatic once it healed !

Naughty Bobby jumped int the bedroom window sill just after i had glossed it and left kitty paw prints all over it. My daughter actually loved this and has decided that she doesn't want me to repaint it!

my cat has a habit of stealing thread out of my sewing box, and, cue gross moment, my husband has to pull it out her bum as it gets stuck when trying to poo!

PandaEyes25 · 03/04/2017 14:45

Our cat likes to run outside into the rain and roll in muddy puddles.....(I think he thinks he's a dog)
So this weekend we kept him in when it was raining. He then proceeded to jump out of the upstairs window and came home covered in dirt.
Luckily no injuries!!

When my husband was a kid his dog was very naughty, He nicked the turkey at Christmas, the family had to chase him around the garden to get it back. He once gotten in to the larder when everyone was out he got hold of a bag of flour, which ended up all around the kitchen.

We have two little fur babies (dogs) now and they are always up to mischief! but our best story is from our old dog who we lost a few years ago, she decided one night when we were out to rip apart half the couch and I mean half the couch right down to the wooden frame, talk about shock when we walked through the door it was like a couch murder scene!! but she gave us those big doe eyes and all was forgiven lol.

Eating her bed is my favourite

RiaOverTheRainbow · 03/04/2017 15:40

Once a young boydog ate an entire loaf of raw bread dough Envy He spent the rest of the day lying around, presumably feeling rather sick.

Laurenboyle22 · 03/04/2017 16:20

My cheeky little pup once climbed on top of her crate to the bag were I keep all the treats and ate the lot ! Her belly was so puffed out she ate that many! 😂 She was alright after a day

Our little french bull dog likes to think he's the same size as our boxer dog and if she jumps on the sofa, he also thinks he can. Needless to say he can't and alway ends up on his back. Poor boy!

Reow · 03/04/2017 16:30

My cat always thinks he can walk on our slippery window sills. He falls off about twice a day.

UpOnDown · 03/04/2017 17:30

A large dog stuck it's head through our cat flap!

user1485678810 · 03/04/2017 18:03

We have a stair gate on our livingroom door frame to get the wee one ij. But my cat decided to jump it which hes done loads .but on this one day he got his claw stuck and was swinging upside down on the gate 😂😂😂 he cant meow so none of us noticed until we came out the room lol poor cat

devito92 · 03/04/2017 18:39

My cat has broken into my fridge many times, I eventually had to put a child lock on it to stop her. BTW the tom cat would just sit and watch his clever sister and not eat the spoils

bevmichelle47 · 03/04/2017 18:40

Just as I finished stirring the perfect mixture of homemade fruit puree and homemade ground rice, I went to set the bowl down on the dining room table and completely missed when my dog came bounding in through the back door running after next doors cat!. The result resembled a Jackson Pollock painting. One with a pug in it, where in the pug is covered in baby food. And so is the table cloth, the legs of the high chair, splotches of the floor, the walls, and my legs. At least Pickles had fun cleaning up lol

lindseystuart855 · 03/04/2017 19:10

Oh I am a cat lover and I have many funny "mishap's" to share with you!
LOL The one that always sticks out for me is the time my big tabby puss Molly was sleeping in her little bed! My partner and I were watching a programme on tv about wildlife! A lion gave out a roar and all we could see out the corner of our eye was Molly's bed doing a somersault in the air and Molly was doing a stalking walk towards the kitchen door! We have never ever laughed so much in all our lives!
Molly never went back in to her bed again and we ended up giving it to our neighbours cat!
Molly is part of the family, we call her Big bad Molly as she growls when someone knocks at the door and hisses at every other cat in sight! She is such a character!

jandoc · 03/04/2017 20:41

we haven't had too many pet mishaps.......... yet!!

Ferryfairy · 03/04/2017 20:50

Our first Great Dane (we never learned) was a fridge raider. We got through numerous child proof (but not Dane proof) fridge locks, but he always found his way in, especially if there was garlic pate! Once he got in just after I had been shopping - bear in mind I had two hollow legged teenagers at the time - he ate the lot; cheese, bacon, pate, sausages, butter, frankfurters, ham. We found him swollen and groaning and not a bit guilty or apologetic. The lady on the deli counter started asking "Anything for the Dane this weekend?"
