Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Our 2 rabbits are a nightmare. We ended up having to fence off the decking and shed at the bottom of the garden as they chewed the bench and decking and then burrowed under the shed causing it to subside!

I used to have turtles, and they would stack on top of each other trying to sunbathe in the heat lamp. The one at the bottom used to want to get the others off of him, so would walk round with them all stacked, til the top one would dive off.

Moving house as a teen - the cat somehow got into the house and climbed in behind a panel when the new owners were having their washing machine plumbed in. The cat ended up plastered in. A hammer was needed to free him. Awkward, to say the least.

When our dog was a puppy she would sometimes do a little wee when overexcited.
One day my mother in law was cuddling the puppy on her lap, when my husband came home. The puppy got so excited that she stood up on my mother in laws lap, and unfortunately peed all over her!

I've got a Labrador and she will eat anything. We've had a few scares with tin cans, bottles, a variety of foodstuffs that dogs really shouldn't eat, pens, glue, batteries, and a plasterboard wall! She has a stomach of steel and has always been absolutely fine. We have learnt to clear the worktops at night and when we're out so she can't get to anything.

When my dd1 was little she loved rodents so much so that we bought her a 'male' rat.... which proceeded to give birth 3 days later, much to DD1's delight and our horror, luckily once the babies were old enough they all found good homes but put me off trusting a pet store.

My kitty once tried to step from the sofa to the tv unit but didnt quite think about it first. So he had 2 paws on the tv unit and the other 2 paws on the sofa and ended up spreadeagled and as flat as a pancake. It was a funny sight - you could have done the limbo underneath him!! xx

I bought a 15kg bag of dog biscuits as it was on a good deal and our dalmatian Dizzy found it and munched through pretty much all of it one day when I was at work! We came back and his belly was like a rock and his poos for the next week were like an elephant's!

A couple of years ago we brought home a beautiful Christmas tree and spent ages decorations it with shiny, bright baubles. Whenever we weren't around my cat would squeeze up into the branches, knocking off the pine needles as she hunted each of the baubles to give them a playful paw-slapping. By the time Xmas arrived, the bottom half of the tree was virtually bare.

our dog brought in a bird and got rather shocked when it flew away

We just adopted a little stray. well i say adopted rather she adopted us. Nothing yet except the one time she left a present on the bed.

The hamster while out of the cage exercising managed to escape though a tiny gap in the pipework. He disappeared for 3 days & we feared the worst until one day we heard scratching in the wall. We decided to drill a hole in the wall & guess what out popped the hamster, black from dust & very hungry.

Bailey, my chocolate lab, has had many mishaps - from destroying shoes to running off with bank notes in his mouth )thankfully we got them back). But his biggest mishap was breaking my double bed...

I'd left my bedroom door open and with him jumping on and off the bed, he broke the base. He couldn't resist the headboard, chewing at the edges and oh, not forgetting ruining a teddy or two!!

Haha, I have enjoyed reading this thread, but cannot think of anything that funny my dog has done. He used to roll in fox poo, but that was the worst thing.

We went out to grab a little bit of shopping and left a fully cooked chicken covered in foil on the back of the kitchen work surface. Our puppy was tiny so we thought it was safe. We got back to the foil slightly moved - and no damn chicken. Not even a chicken bone left! Still never worked it out!

The worst thing my cat ever did was knock the fax machine on to the floor. It broke and we had to buy another one.

Rachdayan · 02/04/2017 16:05

Our Labrador Max once broke into the pantry, ate through the power cable to the fridge and gorged on bread and cereal. We found him proudly sitting amongst the mess.

He also liked to steal knives and hide them in his basket!

feefeegabor · 02/04/2017 16:08

My lovely cat, Cupcake, is always getting into scrapes. Last summer, she got stuck up a tree and we had to borrow a ladder to get her down!

cwalliss82 · 02/04/2017 16:32

My little terrier is typically free-roaming as we live in a rural area. If another dog walker ventures nearby, my terrier will join them on their walk. I have lost count of the number of times people have had to bring him back as he had followed them up to their front door.

I have a greedy labrador, who so far has eaten the following. A frozen joint of pork, 5 litres of homemade carot soup, a fruit cake, a battery, and a lighter. he is fine

Midnight0 · 02/04/2017 19:35

My little dog is very nosey. One time he was sitting on a windowsill and looking outside. Saw something interesting and got so intrigued that he fell out (ground floor) and landed in a daffodil patch.

vcoxee · 02/04/2017 19:42

My cat went in the washing machine on top of the laundry. I put the machine on ... and luckily I saw her before the water gets in and starts spinning! A lucky escape ...however she is still fascinated by the machine so I have to make sure the door is always close!

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2017 20:20

My dog attempted to walk over an algae-covered rhyne (drainage ditch) following the scent of some animal and soon realised it wasn't solid ground when he went straight under!

Ikea1234 · 02/04/2017 20:57

Our tortoise is a real daredevil. She is always climbing - whether it's a wall, the stairs, up a flower bed...and when we go on holiday, she is always testing the patience of her sitters! She has a log tunnel which she drags to the edge of her house, climbs on top of, hops over the boundary, and she's off! She once spent the day wandering round the upstairs of our house after scaling the wall of her house and then jumping four feet onto the floor!

pfcpompeysarah · 02/04/2017 22:01

My cat is a bit of a scaredy cat, I remember many years ago when he was about a year old he was in the neighbouring garden and not thinking anything of it my partner turned the lawn mower on, he came tearing back into the garden, broke an old garden gnome and a wooden chair because he was running so fast and in such a fright, and had to be rescued from under a bed he refused to come out from in the house. He also tries to eat my food, the other day I cooked some rice and left it on the side slightly covered which I put the sauce in the microwave, I left the room for a few minutes and he came trundling past me licking his lips.. when I went into the kitchen the lid on the rice had been moved and so that was it, I had to throw it away.. naughty pet!
