Having a pet is like having an extra member of the family; they can be a huge source of joy and comfort, but they’re also a lot of responsibility. Pet Insurance company, Bought By Many, want to hear about some of the smaller mishaps your pets may have had; those moments that remind you just how much they need you to take care of them.

Here’s what Bought By Many have to say: “We know pets can be mischievous and get themselves into sticky situations, so we’ve launched pet insurance with features no other provider offers. You can choose between policies that will never go up in price, give you money back if you don’t need to claim or cover your pet’s pre-existing medical conditions. Bought By Many is free to join, and 290,000+ people already have!!”

So, to get your hands on a £300 voucher, tell Bought By Many about the mishaps your pets have had - the funnier the better! If your labrador has ever broken into the dog treats cupboard, or your bird has fallen off its perch, or your cat misjudged a leap from one sofa to the next, post on the thread with your stories and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Dcat has been very expensive over the years and pet insurance has been essential. One of her most interesting vets trips was when she had been in the garden playing as it turned out with a bee which she was stung by in the mouth. Course this was a Sunday afternoon and needed an emergency trip to vets for injections which she didn't enjoy. She hasn't learnt her lesson and still wants to chase bees and wasps.

Tuppence, the cat I had when I was a child jumped up to play with a bauble on the Christmas tree once and pulled the whole tree over on herself - she was scared of Christmas trees after that!

rattieofcarcassone · 24/03/2017 14:24

On the first night we got our first two pet rats, one of them ended up under the fridge. A built in under the counter fridge. He managed to squeeze through a small hole between the bottom panel of the cabinets and the wall.

We managed to pull the fridge out and discovered that there was a ridge that went behind the counters and also behind the wall and into the bathroom, where he spent the night under the built in bath! Little sod. We spent hours sat in this tiny recess made for the fridge trying to coax him out with apple chunks, cheese, water and so on. The next morning we finally managed to coax him towards us using his brother as bait and when he got close enough I batted him into a tall bucket Blush He was fine and lived for nearly three years after that and died just before Christmas! He always was a funny one Grin

When granny and grandad homed a new rescue dog, the last thing they expected was for him to have a fetish for bananas! After a heated arguement about whether it was granny or grandad who had eaten the last banana, they found the dog looking guilty with an empty banana peel by his feet - he'd managed to peel and eat the banana and leave the peel behind. Now whenever bananas mysteriously go missing, they know who the culprit is!

Summergarden · 24/03/2017 16:09

Our dog managed to get himself stuck between two sofas. It was a funny sight with his big head looking at us from between them!

EwanWhosearmy · 24/03/2017 16:17

Took Rhodesian Ridgeback to grandma's house for Christmas. Grandma who really doesn't like dogs. Look out the window after lunch and dog is running around with something in its mouth. Yes the leftover turkey. All of it.

We have no door on our bathroom so the cats like to come up and walk around the edge of the bath if someone is in it, pausing to swipe at toes. I was in the bath and had sat forward to put some more water in. Behind me was an almighty splash and smallest cat had fallen in the water and couldn't get out. She did look stupid. Hasn't stopped her coming to sit on my chest during subsequent baths.

foxessocks · 24/03/2017 16:41

My cat once ate a really really long piece of string and pooed it out whole...We were a little freaked out by the piece of string hanging out of her bum! Not good! She is thankfully fine!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 24/03/2017 16:43

When I was younger we had budgies as pets - we used to let them fly around the house and most handled it well & were fine but one 'Rocky' used to fly in to the window all the time!! He seemed fine if a little dazed - ad you'd think he'd learn but never did!

ParrotPudding · 24/03/2017 17:00

We have a 3yr old African grey parrot.
A few weeks ago I slipped a disc in my back, was laid out on the floor for hours unable to move while I waited for lovely doctor to come. Poor DP trying to keep our two toddlers occupied stop launching themselves onto me when doctor came.
After a quick examination the lovely doctor explains what he thinks is wrong, and what his plan is to treat it. A few minutes in, the parrot pipes up with

"Ok, that's enough of you, off you go now" in the clearest voice he's even spoken in.
We were mortified
Luckily doctor thought it was hilarious and replied with "It's ok im going now"
To which our delightful bird replies "hurry up, you're taking the piss now."

I waa relying on this man to give me drugs and my bird tried to throw him out!

OhBlissOhJoy · 24/03/2017 17:09

I had 2 rabbits that lived in the shed. One of them liked throwing his toys around. Went to check up on them one day and could only see him. Couldn't find her anywhere, until the cardboard box moved - he had thrown it over her.

ArchNotImpudent · 24/03/2017 19:23

Has to be the time someone put a glass of cream liqueur down on the floor ... a few minutes later I noticed my cat and dog were sharing it! The strange thing was, they were being really civilised and taking turns - the dog having a lick and then the cat going in with his paw Grin. I took it away - perhaps not surprisingly they seemed a bit grumpy!

purplepandas · 24/03/2017 20:27

My favourite was when our dog jumped in the swing bin, the lid closed on top of them. A comedy gold moment!

del2929 · 24/03/2017 21:46

so we had just come back from doing the weekly shop. the ct strolls in and plonks himself on top of the shopping and falls asleep... just ;like that. no fks given!

Itsnothingoriginal · 24/03/2017 21:58

My cat used to follow us to the local shop, wait outside then walk back home with us! One time I'd been in a while buying some groceries and heard laughing - my cat was looking in through the glass door with her face pressing right up against it as if to say 'what's taking you so long?' All the people in the queue were laughing at her!

BellaGoth · 24/03/2017 22:31

My labrador ate a kilo of caster sugar, then threw it up over our bed. Bed and mattress both had to be replaced and the dog ended up in the Daily Mail. We have had him less than a year and he had cost us hundreds of pounds in vets bills due to Stuff He Has Eaten.

CopperPan · 24/03/2017 23:34

Our cat knocked over our painstakingly decorated Christmas tree last year - we came home to find it on its side and she was hiding behind the sofa with guilty eyes.

Summerholidayblues · 25/03/2017 01:14

Our cat used to want to be in the bathroom when I was in the bath. She would stroll round the edge of the tub but every single time would lose her footing and fall in. Given cats are supposedly clever (and she was definitely scared of water), you would have thought she would have learned her lesson...but no.

vickyors · 25/03/2017 07:42

Our Labrador, for about the first week and a half with us, walked into the glass doors into the garden. Or ran into them..!

MTBMummy · 25/03/2017 12:01

Stripy bugger (as he's affectionately known) has an obsession with drinking from the loo, so we're very careful to make sure we use on natural ingredients to keep it clean, once when he was a kitten he miss timed his jump and ended up with his front paws in the water, he managed to get himself out, and looked most pissed off at everyone for laughing at him, but it didn't put him off.

CheeseAtFourpence · 25/03/2017 18:14

Our Labrador.....the first time he had a bath outside, got giddy and went belting into the house, skidded along the length of the lounge on our wooden floors and clattered into the wall. It didn't deter him however!

Or the time he got shamed into climbing a stile by a bunch of horses (he usually refuses) and then got stuck coming back as they weren't there to encourage him and so he had to swim in the river to get back.

VilootShesCute · 25/03/2017 18:19

My dog got his beautifully feathered tail stuck in a trike chain and it ripped the whole thing off. Only has a stump now. Poor boy. Suits him though!

My large, unfit cat who hates exercise and heights decided to climb up the wallpaper. He made it to the ceiling, looked down and panicked. We were running around underneath him putting cushions to break his fall back to earth, he let go, didn't even attempt to climb back down , missed the strategically placed cushions but luckily the new tv broke his fall otherwise he could have been seriously hurt. The front room had to be rewallpapered well painted so he couldn't do it again and I had to pay for a new tv as he is my cat. Alfie, luckily, just had a very bruised ego.

My budgie has the habit to fly on me when I am eating or drinking and one day she landed on my cup whilst I was having hot tea and was nearly having a bath in it..she would have burnt herself badly if I would have court her just in time.

KarmaKit · 25/03/2017 21:08

I can't stop laughing at the parrot!

Our family dog when I was growing up was a funny one. She used to chase frogs (never actually caught one, I don't think she even wanted to) but she used to jump, as if she was imitating them! It was very funny seeing this huge scary looking (rottweiler cross) dog delicately bouncing around the garden!

catgirl2 · 25/03/2017 21:35

Our cat James got a cat food can stuck on his head when he was about 1. He was darting around our flat crashing into stuff, poor boy :-(. I was able to gently prise it off his head in the end and since then I have always crushed all cans even non cat food ones out of habit! He now has dry food and pouches anyway and 9 years on us just as greedy!
