The New Year brings about thoughts of new beginnings, and Arla Big Milk would love to know what your intentions are for a fresh start for your family, to help them grow big this January.

What are your plans and aims for the new year? Are you determined to be a better planner of healthier, wholesome meals, to make sure your DC gets enough of the good stuff? Perhaps you’d like your family to practice better sleep hygiene or spend more time together? Maybe you’re looking forward to watching your children grow big and reach milestones like weaning, taking their first steps or learning to read by themselves?

Whatever your aims, share the great ideas you have for a new and fresh start for your family in 2017 with Arla Big Milk below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw.

Lose 2 stone in baby weight in time for my holiday in June!

queenoftheschoolrun · 06/01/2017 19:21

Better meal planning. It works when I do it but I let things slip towards the end of the year.

FurryTurnip · 06/01/2017 20:21

To encourage my DS to spend more time outdoors - we are a very outdoors family but he is often reluctant, but when we make him go out he loves it. He has just learned to ride a bike so I am looking forward to cycling along trails all summer and getting more fresh air.

catgirl2 · 06/01/2017 20:22

Saying no a bit more (in a nice way!). Trying to believe in myself a bit more. Also trying some new recipies.

RupertsMum2 · 06/01/2017 21:11

We are going to eat more healthily as a family. I'm going to stop buying rubbish and I am going to loose 52lb in 52 weeks.

MrsOllyMurs · 06/01/2017 21:29

To exercise more as a family, walking, swimming, cycling - and getting fresh air!

IonaAilidh11 · 06/01/2017 21:41

getting up an hour early so no more mad rushes to get out the door

mumsnit · 06/01/2017 22:03

Less sugar for the whole family (not proving popular so far!)

For me - more exercise and I really need to find a new hobby and spend less time on MN Grin

WowOoo · 06/01/2017 22:13

Mine is to make myself a bit more presentable. I've got jewelry that I've started wearing again and I'm making more of an effort with my makeup.
This comes from a well meaning family member who came to stay telling me I'd let myself go a bit!

Weekend only iPod and ipads

CazH73 · 06/01/2017 23:01

To have less weekend takeaways,so we can save more money up and spend it on new carpets & decorating the house.

Gazelda · 06/01/2017 23:18

Stop frittering away small bits of money. I probably waste £10-20 per week. I'm going to save that up and spend it on time/experiences with my family to make memories.

EasterRobin · 07/01/2017 01:09

Keeping the house tidier and generally sorting out all the stuff I no longer use. Will probably then fill the newly freed space up with stuff for my daughter instead.

Playing outside more with DD and encouraging her to be more physically active.

fish88 · 07/01/2017 03:39

My eldest is starting nursery and I'm learning about Getting Things Done so I can hopefully be organised for everything.

thewaitresses · 07/01/2017 06:48

To spend less money on eating out! We love to eat out but also love to cook at home. The idea is that each month we'll plan a special meal out - new restaurant, new type of food, as part of a day out - rather than saying 'we've got no milk; shall we go to the pub for a pizza?'!

DaisyDando · 07/01/2017 07:21

I'm going to spend 10% less £ per week in the supermarket and spend 10 % more time in the fresh air with DS.

Rosehips · 07/01/2017 07:39

more meals cooked from scratch

MiddleClassProblem · 07/01/2017 08:26

Well being time for me to help MH and more little walks with DD

ailsasheldon · 07/01/2017 10:43

More outdoor time with the kids!

NameChange2017 · 07/01/2017 11:01

We have 9 month old twin boys who are growing and changing ever so fast!
With the challenges of being a multiple parent, finding time to be adventurous with their meal times is hard. We are always introducing new foods and trying new things, but we always revert back to the easy/quick pasta / mashed vegetables for continence on those busy daysBlush
New year, new plan - be more organised around food, plan ahead, batch cook exciting meals and try a lot more different things and stick with it!
I also want to get out more with them, for them.
Instead of classing a shopping trip with them as a trip out in the pushchair, I want to go out for a walk in the pushchair to the park, soft play or to feed tree ducks.

Good luck to everyone with their New Years plans!

MommieMommyMom · 07/01/2017 14:06

Well... My son broke the 2nd TV this month not we have no TV in the house so that kinda sealed the 'less screen time' idea I had.
Planning to completely declutter the house (7 days in and it looks like I haven't even started, I've done loads Hmm )
I'm making use of the slow cooker that's been gathering dust since last new year, i intend to get more vegetables into our diet and cut out a lot of the bad stuff, it's not going too bad.
My little girl just learned to sit up, today (YAY!) and I'm looking forward to seeing her grow and learn new things.
I did plan a diet, but... blah.
I've decided that I will go visit people more often and have friends around. I haven't done that yet but it will be the first time this Monday if I don't chicken out (I have social anxiety)
But mostly I just want to have a happier family and a more organised life, I'm working on it :)

Leopardearth22 · 07/01/2017 15:36

Our New Year plan for 2017 is

  • getting DS & DD good evening habits of reading 20min a day during the week
  • getting into a good routine of Sunday family swimming
  • organising 2 sleepovers at our house for DD and 1 for DS
  • getting 2 house projects done this year (painting and changing carpet)
  • keep running the monthly NCT parents/kids meetup group and hope more parents involved this year
  • keep up with my 5 day a week yoga practice
BigBugs · 07/01/2017 15:50

Less screen time for the whole family. Less sugar intake for the whole family. More physical activity at the weekend. I am going to try and be calmer in general.

Roseformeplease · 07/01/2017 16:09

I am going to go back to reading proper books, made of paper and stop kidding on that I am reading on my iPad when I am just flicking between apps. I am going back to running and am working on my mental health by seeing more friends and being more social. The kids have exams so supporting them is a priority as well as being a bit more focussed on dull cleaning jobs because a clean, tidy house makes us all feel better. Also, back to no sugar at all, once I have these pesky cakes and chocolates eaten.....

asuwere · 07/01/2017 16:17

I plan to cut down on the amount of fast food we have - it's all to easy to say "we'll just have a McDonalds/chippy" etc so I have set a budget (in cash!) for each month and once that's used, we can't have another takeaway. Also planning to get DH more involved in the meal planning/cooking which will help the first part as I won't be so fed up of doing every single meal.
