The New Year brings about thoughts of new beginnings, and Arla Big Milk would love to know what your intentions are for a fresh start for your family, to help them grow big this January.

What are your plans and aims for the new year? Are you determined to be a better planner of healthier, wholesome meals, to make sure your DC gets enough of the good stuff? Perhaps you’d like your family to practice better sleep hygiene or spend more time together? Maybe you’re looking forward to watching your children grow big and reach milestones like weaning, taking their first steps or learning to read by themselves?

Whatever your aims, share the great ideas you have for a new and fresh start for your family in 2017 with Arla Big Milk below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw.

i'm swapping quantity for quality this year so trying more organic food, small amounts of dark chocolate instead of a tonne of milk chocolate and looking for great quality products for a healthier start to the new year for my family

Our family are all supporting each other to move more, get out and about with fresh air and exercise - hopefully finding some fun times with this so it doesn't become a chore, and we are cutting out as much sugar as possible from our diets.
We have booked our summer holiday and we are all hoping to have new smaller swim wear to take with us.

New Year new me! Im starting on confidence. Having the confidence to say no instead of just doing what everyone else wants when they want and being walked all over!

happysouls · 09/01/2017 10:56

Its been a bit funny this year! Rather than an over-indulgent Christmas followed by a new start, we've kind of just carried on trying to be healthy all the way through! Still had a great time with lovely food and drinking, but just at a more reasonable level, and going for walks each day too. So I'm starting the new year feeling optimistic that I can stay healthy!

I am trying to do my usual of losing weight again and as long as i can shift a stone i will be happy with this. I have also decided to change my outlook on life. I am far too nice and would do anything for anyone but reality check has made me realise that some people just take the biscuit with it. So i am going to start saying no. :)

Eat healthier, be more organised, stay on top of the housework and save as much money as possible

Annieg1234 · 09/01/2017 11:31

i want to become more assertive this year and stop avoiding conflict.
Also want to be less stressed and i think this maybe goes hand in hand!

HelenPlant · 09/01/2017 11:46

Just a general effort to make better food choices and to move around more.

xcxcsophiexcxc · 09/01/2017 12:00

sandy31 · 09/01/2017 12:05

sallyhartley · 09/01/2017 12:06

To try not to worry so much, lose weight and do more excercise

nettymay · 09/01/2017 12:09

Be kind, be a good listener and enjoy the time you have.

Cambam2010 · 09/01/2017 12:11

I am sticking to my Low carb diet and doing intermittent fasting. I am determined to cut down on the amount of sugar that my DS6 has and have banned gadgets from the table whilst eating. I am also hotting up on hygiene and overseeing my DS's toilet habits after we have started the New Year off with threadworm Hmm (and head lice) Sad

Bechoole · 09/01/2017 12:13

Drink less and eat more healthy, nothing groundbreaking but I'm gonna do it!

earthmoon · 09/01/2017 12:25

Spend more time out side with the children and not forget to bring healthy snacks.

twinklenicci · 09/01/2017 12:27

i seriously need to lose weight, im constantly on some sort of diet but this year ive decided to give it a proper go. i drink too much fizzy pop and like cakes too much so its going to be hard, but something i need to do before i hit 40 next year

Lulabellx1 · 09/01/2017 12:32

This January, it is not so much of a ‘fresh start’, it is more like a ‘trying to get back to where I was’. I used to do lots of exercise classes etc and watched what I ate, but in the last 6 months or so I have really let it slip. I am know calorie counting again and have signed up to three classes per week. I am also trying to be careful with money this year. I have opened a savings account and have set up a direct debit so that £50 a month goes in, I have also said that if I win the bonus ball at work… that will go in too! Low and behold… I won the bonus ball this week so I added an extra £40 this month. Great start! 

NettleTea · 09/01/2017 12:32

Im getting my shit together!!
As I speak I have a friend stripping wallpaper in my daughter's room to finally get it decorated
Ive made a huge list of outstanding jobs and am working my way through them
Photographed my son's bed and wardrobe ready to eBay as, at 10, he needs a room more suitable than the decorations which went in there when he was 2
Just about finished my office/workspace, am FINALLY going to have room to start making again........

simone12345 · 09/01/2017 12:35

my aims for the 2017 year is to get fitter and lose some weight its that time year when alot clothes dont fit so nows the time to do it

Marg2k8 · 09/01/2017 12:36

Greymalkin I love your post. I haven't made any resolutions.

Daisymaybe60 · 09/01/2017 12:39

I'm doing the 1000 miles in 2017 challenge. Set myself up a spreadsheet and everything. To achieve my goal, I'm aiming to walk 20 miles a week and at the end of week one I'd only managed 17, so I'm already playing catch up. And it's raining....

Alison18 · 09/01/2017 12:53

This year I just plan to lose weight and eat a bit healthier really. I want to get more active too and Im trying to cycle every day

sm2012 · 09/01/2017 12:54

I've decided to spend more quality time with my daughters. We always seem to go to places/do things together which is fun but as they get older I think it's important to spend time one to one with them.

jaibaby · 09/01/2017 13:06

2017 is going to be my year. I'm going to decorate the whole house, replenish the old furniture by using paint & fabrics, give extra stuff to charity (clothes, toys, books etc), have a huge declutter and just generally enjoy life more. I spent a lot of 2016 worrying about the little things that turned out meaningless. Loosing weight & getting fit is at the bottom of the list but we'll see as we go along!

stefalfie11 · 09/01/2017 13:09

I want to replace my snacking on crisps/chocolate bars to nuts and fruit. I'd also love to be able to save £1500 towards a house deposit.
